Tue May 13 201416:47Cecil Shorts, Jags have 'general' talks
The Jags have had "general" contract discussions with Cecil Shorts, who is going into the final year of his rookie deal.
"Obviously, we want him here for the long haul," GM David Caldwell said. "He's a valuable part of our organization and we'd love to at some point in time take care of Cecil." Shorts is the Jags' clear-cut No. 1 receiver, but is coming off an injury-marred 2013, and has two high draft picks to contend with in the receiver corps. It's unlikely either side is in a rush to get a deal done.

Wed Apr 23 201421:35Cecil Shorts not yet 100 percent
Cecil Shorts is not yet fully recovered from his December sports hernia surgery.
Shorts is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and expects to be 100 percent shortly. "I'm on the right path where I'm able to run without any pain," he said. "I still have some work to do and I'm not 100 percent yet, but I'm looking to get there soon. Now, I have to get my strength back and confidence back." Still only 26 years old, Shorts returns as Jacksonville's clear-cut No. 1 receiver with Justin Blackmon serving an indefinite suspension.

Wed Feb 5 201415:43Jags likely to wait on Cecil Shorts extension
ESPN Jaguars blogger Michael DiRocco expects the team to wait to extend Cecil Shorts' contract until during the season.
Shorts is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which is set to pay him a $1.389 million base salary. As much as he flashed in 2012, Shorts took a step back this past season as he dealt with a shoulder injury and sports hernia operation that sent him to I.R. Considering who Shorts has had throwing him the football, he's been a major bright spot. As long as the Jaguars upgrade the quarterback position, Shorts shouldn't have a problem betting on himself.

Thu Dec 19 201313:45Cecil Shorts undergoes sports-hernia surgery
Cecil Shorts (injured reserve) underwent sports-hernia surgery Thursday.
It's an operation that typically requires 4-6 weeks of recovery time. Shorts should be healed in time for the Jaguars' offseason program. Although Shorts had a down year compared to his breakout 2012, he remains a high-upside stash in Dynasty leagues. A real quarterback could do wonders for his fantasy value. Chad Henne won't be under center for Jacksonville in 2014.

Mon Dec 16 201313:28Jaguars may shot down Shorts for final 2 wks
Coach Gus Bradley said Monday the Jaguars are "seriously" considering shutting down Cecil Shorts (groin) for Weeks 16 and 17.
In a blog post titled, "Shorts' season likely over," beat reporter Ryan O'Halloran writes that Bradley, Shorts, and GM Dave Caldwell will meet this week to discuss the possibility of shutting down their top receiver. O'Halloran believes "the decision is pretty clear," and Shorts won't be playing in the last two games. Shorts needs offseason surgery to repair the groin. If he were at risk of doing more damage by trying to play through it, it would be in the team's best interest to let Shorts get an early jump on the procedure and ensuing rehab. Look for Mike Brown and Ace Sanders to close out the year as Jacksonville's starting wideouts.

Mon Dec 16 201313:02Cecil Shorts' groin injury is not improving
Coach Gus Bradley said Cecil Shorts' groin injury is not improving.
Shorts sat out the entire week of practice leading up to Week 15 and the loss to the Bills. That apparently wasn't enough to get his troublesome groin right and now it sounds like the Jags are seriously thinking about shutting him down for the final two games. Ace Sanders, Mike Brown and Kerry Taylor will likely close out the season as the Jags' top-three wideouts.

Cecil Shorts (groin) is inactive for Week 15 against the Bills.
Shorts has been playing hurt all season, but the latest aggravation of his groin injury proved to be too much. Shorts should be considered questionable for Week 16. His absence leaves Ace Sanders, Mike Brown and Kerry Taylor as the Jaguars' top three receivers. Only Sanders is worth WR3 consideration.

Thu Dec 12 201313:47Bradley: Shorts, MJD could be game-time calls
According to Jaguars coach Gus Bradley, Cecil Shorts (groin) and Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) could both be game-time decisions for Week 15.
Joy to the world. Shorts has been playing hurt all season, but his groin has become a bigger issue after "flaring up." Sunday's showdown with the Bills' burnable secondary was set to be Shorts' first good matchup in weeks, but now he's shaping up as a risky WR2. The fact that Shorts has been playing at less than 100 percent nearly all year is working in his favor, but owners need to have a back-up plan ready.

Thu Dec 12 201312:18Cecil Shorts, Jones-Drew both miss practice
Cecil Shorts (groin) and Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) both missed practice again Thursday.
As previously reported, Jones-Drew won't test his hamstring until Friday and remains very questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills. Shorts' status is getting murkier as well. Beat writer Hays Carlyon says the groin issue is "flaring up" and calls the Jags' No. 1 wideout a "question mark." If Shorts can't go, Mike Brown and Ace Sanders would be Chad Henne's top-two receivers. The good news is that we'll know Shorts' status nice and early Sunday as kickoff is scheduled for 1pm ET.

Wed Dec 11 201315:28Cecil Shorts held out of practice Wednesday
Cecil Shorts (groin) did not practice Wednesday.
Shorts rarely practices on Wednesdays, so it's not a concern for his Week 15 status. He'll be safe to use as a WR2 for Sunday's matchup against the Bills.

Cecil Shorts (groin) is listed as probable for Thursday night's Week 14 game against the Texans.
Shorts is coming off back-to-back solid efforts after he complained that he wasn't seeing enough targets. He's back in the WR2 mix but will draw Johnathan Joseph in coverage for much of the night.

Cecil Shorts (groin) remained limited in Tuesday's practice.
It's not a concern for Shorts' Week 14 status. He'll likely be listed as probable on Wednesday's injury, and be all systems go as a borderline WR2 for Thursday night's game against the Titans.
