Sun Dec 23 201210:07Mort: Alex Green out, Ryan Grant will start
Appearing on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown, Chris Mortensen reported that Alex Green (concussion) will not play on Sunday against the Titans, and Ryan Grant will get the start.
Green was listed as questionable on the injury report after not practicing at all during the week, but he will not give it a go. Grant will likely handle all of the early-down work, with DuJuan Harris working in on some passing downs, and John Kuhn getting goal-line and short-yardage opportunities. Grant is the best bet for fantasy production, but it's hard to like him as anything more than a low-end flex option.

Fri Dec 21 201213:41Alex Green misses Week 16
Alex Green (concussion) missed Packers practice Friday and is expected to miss Week 16 against the Titans.
Green Bay's four-way running back committee will be reduced to three, likely led by Ryan Grant with DuJuan Harris in the pace-change role and John Kuhn siphoning short-yardage work. It's not a great situation to count on in fantasy championship games. Grant would be the best Week 16 flex option of the bunch.

Thu Dec 20 201220:28Confidence in Green suiting up diminishing?
The Green Bay Press Gazette believes Alex Green's (concussion) chances of playing in Week 16 are "diminishing."
Green didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday, and beat writer Pete Dougherty notes that players suffering from concussions often don't suit up for the week if they haven't practiced by Thursday. If Green were forced to miss, the Packers will use a trio of uninspiring backs Ryan Grant, DuJuan Harris, and John Kuhn against the Titans. Grant would likely lead the backfield in carries.

Thu Dec 20 201212:58Alex Green out of practice again
Alex Green (concussion) did not practice Thursday.
The Packers are optimistic that Green will get cleared in time to play against the Titans, but he's running out of time. If he can't go, they'll have to turn to an ugly three-headed monster consisting of Ryan Grant, DuJuan Harris and John Kuhn.

Wed Dec 19 201214:13Packers' Alex Green dealing with concussion
Updating an earlier item, Alex Green missed Wednesday's practice with a concussion.
However, coach Mike McCarthy is "encouraged" Green will be ready for Sunday's game against the Titans. The Packers would be down to an extremely shaky running back trio of DuJuan Harris, Ryan Grant and John Kuhn if Green couldn't go. McCarthy's words are obviously encouraging, but if you were planning on starting Green in your flex spot for the fantasy finals, you need to have a contingency plan ready.

Wed Dec 19 201213:27Alex Green misses Wednesday's practice
Alex Green (undisclosed) sat out of Packers practice on Wednesday.
It's unclear what, if any, injury held Green out. It was more than likely just a day of rest for the Packers' new feature back, who's touched the ball 29 times over his past two games. We fully expect Green to suit up against the Titans, but his status will be worth double-checking before the weekend.

Sun Dec 16 201217:44Alex Green held to 41 yards in Week 15
Alex Green rushed 13 times for just 35 yards and added two receptions for six yards at Chicago in Week 15.
Green's longest run went for just eight yards while backup Ryan Grant had a 14-yard jaunt and change-of-pace back DuJuan Harris peeled off a 21-yard gain. It was a true committee attack against what had been a reeling Bears run defense. Grant had 8 carries for 32 yards, Harris toted the ball 5 times for 27 yards, and John Kuhn rushed twice. That should remain the recipe going forward. Green is no more than a flex option versus the Titans in Week 16.

Mon Dec 10 201200:05Alex Green rushes for 69 yards in victory
Alex Green rushed 13 times for 69 yards in Green Bay's Week 14 win over the Lions.
Green lost three yards on his only reception. At long last, Green performed well as the Packers' feature back, running with power and quickness he's rarely displayed the past two seasons. Green actually managed to find running lanes, and didn't go down at first contact. His relatively meager workload was a matter of circumstance, as the Pack possessed the ball for just 22:46, and ran only 52 plays. Backups DuJuan Harris and Ryan Grant combined for eight carries, but it was clearly Green's backfield. It's possible Green was just taking advantage of a mudder's track at a snowy Lambeau Field, but he's certainly earned another week of No. 1 duties. He'll get the Bears' reeling run defense in Week 15.

Thu Dec 6 201217:56Pack acknowledge Green needs smaller workload
Packers RBs coach Alex Van Pelt acknowledges Alex Green "has been at his best when he's sharing the load with another back."
Green has averaged a pathetic 2.4 yards per carry in games where's he taken the rock at least 20 times. His YPC is a much more palatable 4.3 in contests where he's split the load with James Starks. However, with Starks out for Week 14, Van Pelt admits Green will likely be in for a heavy workload against the Lions. Van Pelt envisions recently re-signed Ryan Grant eventually serving as a "pounding back" behind Green, but we'll believe Grant has something left in the tank when we see it.

Wed Dec 5 201206:33Alex Green back atop unofficial depth chart
With James Starks' (knee) season reportedly in jeopardy, Alex Green is once again atop the Packers' unofficial depth chart at tailback.
Starks is a candidate to join Cedric Benson on injured reserve, leaving Green, 2011 Bills fifth-round pick Johnny White, and practice squad call-up DuJuan Harris at tailback along with fullback John Kuhn. Coach Mike McCarthy thought Green "ran well" last week, though he's averaged a paltry 3.3 yards on 109 carries this season. Green should be added in 12-team leagues with the potential for a heavy workload, but he's more likely to be a flex option than a reliable RB2 going forward.

Sun Dec 2 201218:05Alex Green totals 70 yards in Week 13
Alex Green rushed 12 times for 58 yards and added one reception for 12 yards versus the Vikings in Week 13.
Operating in an even timeshare with James Starks, Green produced his third-highest yardage total and second-best YPC average of the season. Through 12 games, he's on pace for 145 carries and 480 yards for a per-carry average of just 3.3. Green isn't a recommended flex option for Week 14 versus the Lions.

Mon Nov 26 201200:15Green back in game-plan, but doesn't produce
Alex Green rushed 10 times for 30 yards in Green Bay's Week 12 loss to the Giants, adding three catches for 20 yards.
The good news is, Green rotated carries with James Starks one week after being out-touched 26-0. The bad news is, he remained ineffective. However, Starks could manage only 35 yards on eight totes, and touched the ball five fewer times than his backfield mate. Regardless, it would be foolish to trust either player as a flex option against the Vikings in Week 13. It wouldn't be surprising if the Pack hosted free agent runners during the week. For now, Green/Starks should continue to rotate touches in hopes that one will develop the "hot hand." Don't count on it.

Tue Nov 20 201217:18Packers to ride hot hand in a timeshare
The Packers are expected use James Starks and Alex Green in a timeshare until one of the two emerges with a hot hand.
Coach Mike McCarthy lamented that the slow-footed Starks "left a lot of production on the field" after reviewing the Week 11 film. Starks got the feature-back workload because Green had missed too many holes leading up to the bye week. The Week 9 division with Starks on early downs and Green on passing downs seemed to work best. The Packers are hoping that Cedric Benson returns by mid-December.

Fri Nov 16 201213:08Alex Green listed as probable
Alex Green (knee) was held out of Packers practice on Friday, but is listed as probable for Week 11 against Detroit.
Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Green is "fully expected" to be available for the game, and he was only held out of the practice due to past knee injuries. Green has lost his starting job to James Starks and is no longer a fantasy option.

Sun Nov 4 201217:39Green plays behind Starks, gets 13 touches
Alex Green rushed 11 times for 53 yards and caught two passes for 25 additional yards as the Packers downed the Cardinals in Week 9.
He appears to have been supplanted by James Starks as the Packers' primary back. Although Green and Starks rotated possessions most of the game, Starks both got the first-team starting nod and was employed as the late-game clock killer. Whereas Green received 13 touches, Starks handled a game-high 17 carries. Look for Green Bay to "ride the hot hand" when it comes out of the Week 10 bye. For now, Green is shaping up as no better than a limited-workload flex option in terms of forward-looking fantasy value.

Tue Oct 30 201214:51Report: Green will remain Packers' lead back
Despite back-to-back disappointing games, Alex Green will remain the Packers' lead back, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Silverstein.

Mon Oct 29 201211:39Coach McCarthy not happy with run game again
Coach Mike McCarthy expressed more disappointment in the running game following Sunday's win over the Jaguars.
Alex Green has been the unquestioned feature back for three straight weeks. During that time, he's rushed 64 times for 154 yards -- a paltry 2.40 YPC. "We need to improve," McCarthy said Sunday afternoon. "I haven't watched the tape ... (but) the run game is not good enough and that's today." The Packers could be exploring a trade for a running back at the deadline. They don't appear inclined to give James Starks a chance.

Sun Oct 28 201217:39Green struggles to gain yards again in Week 8
Alex Green rushed 22 times for just 54 yards in Week 8 against the Jaguars.
Green added four catches for 28 yards, but it was another very uninspiring effort for the second-year back out of Hawaii. He had a long run of seven yards and couldn't get much more than two yards on a single carry against one of the league's weaker run defenses. After head coach Mike McCarthy wasn't happy with Green last week, one can't imagine he'll like what he saw this week. Backup James Starks generated 17 yards on two touches. Green Bay could be looking for a running back before Tuesday's trade deadline.

Tue Oct 23 201211:30McCarthy not happy with Green's performance
Coach Mike McCarthy was not happy with Alex Green's Week 7 performance.
Green managed just 35 yards on 20 carries (1.75 YPC). "I thought we left too many hard yards on the field. There were too many 1-, 2-yard runs that should have been hardball 3-, 4-, 5-yard runs," McCarthy said. "We need to improve that aspect of our offense." Perhaps James Starks will get a chance against the Jags in Week 8.
