Sun Oct 21 201216:47Alex Green has pathetic day on the ground
Alex Green rushed 20 times for just 35 yards in Green Bay's Week 7 win over the Rams, adding four catches for 29 yards.
It was a pathetic afternoon for the Packers' new feature back, whose longest run (15 yards) came on a play where the Rams sold out the wrong side of the line of scrimmage. Green was stopped for two yards or fewer an astonishing 14 times. Just two of his carries went for longer than three yards. Although the Rams were getting consistent penetration, Green showed no ability to make defenders miss. It's fair to wonder if James Starks will be a much bigger part of the Packers' Week 8 gameplan after finishing with zero touches this afternoon.

Fri Oct 19 201213:48Alex Green listed as probable for Week 7
Alex Green (shoulder) is listed as probable for Week 7 against the Rams.
Green was limited in practice this week, but he was never in danger of missing Sunday's game. Expect Green to dominate carries for a second straight week.

Thu Oct 18 201214:35Alex Green limited again on Thursday
Packers RB Alex Green (shoulder) was limited again in Thursday's practice.
Green is fully expected to start at St. Louis, and coach Mike McCarthy suggested he will continue to get a feature back's workload. Rotoworld ranks Green 24th among fantasy backs against a defense that shut down Reggie Bush a week ago.

Wed Oct 17 201214:21Alex Green limited with shoulder issue
Packers RB Alex Green was limited in Wednesday's practice with a shoulder injury.
Green wasn't known to be hurt, but coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday he'll continue to carry a "full load," so his injury must be extremely minor. Green has a tough matchup in the Rams' improved run defense, but his expected workload makes him a solid flex option.

Tue Oct 16 201215:38McCarthy: RB Green can 'carry a full load'
Coach Mike McCarthy suggested that RB Alex Green will continue to "carry a full load" in the Packers' backfield.
"I see the games as we move forward reflecting the game we just played. That will be our approach," said McCarthy. "I was very pleased with Alex Green ... I mean, I have no reason to think that he can't carry a full load." McCarthy suggested that James Starks' five garbage-time runs were simply an opportunity to get him ready in case Green goes down with an injury. There's no committee attack here, though Green could lose goal-line looks to John Kuhn.

Mon Oct 15 201218:24McCarthy confirms Green will be lead back
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that Alex Green will be the team's lead running back moving forward.
With Cedric Benson (foot, Lisfranc) on injured reserve designated for return and Brandon Saine (torn ACL) out for the remainder of the season, Green is going to be Green Bay's starting running back moving forward. Green is coming off a 2011 torn ACL of his own, but he is "already past the rep count" and there is "no reason to think he can't carry a full load." He was clearly the feature back on Sunday night in Houston, and he'll be a weekly RB2/flex play for the foreseeable future.

Mon Oct 15 201200:28Green manages only 65 yards on 22 carries
Alex Green rushed 22 times for 65 yards in Green Bay's Week 6 win over the Texans, adding one catch for eight yards.
Green was a near every-down back, playing extremely heavy snaps while ceding just five carries to James Starks. Starks didn't touch the ball until the game was out of reach. Green didn't do much with the big workload, however, getting stopped for two yards or fewer on 11 of his 22 carries. He didn't display the explosiveness he was said to have before tearing his ACL last November. For now, Green is locked in as the lead dog in Green Bay's makeshift backfield, but Starks' role figures to grow, while the Packers could hit up the free agent market.

Wed Oct 10 201214:37McCarthy confirms 'hot hand' approach at RB
Coach Mike McCarthy confirms the Packers will go with a "hot hand" approach at running back in the absence of Cedric Benson, with Alex Green getting the "first crack" at carries.
According to McCarthy, Green is "further ahead" than James Starks, who missed four weeks with turf toe before being a healthy scratch in Week 5. Green is clearly the back to add in fantasy leagues, but McCarthy has hinted each of Green, Starks and Brandon Saine will get carries. If possible, it's a situation to avoid until things are allowed to shake out over the next 1-2 weeks.

Tue Oct 9 201217:18Pack listing Alex Green as starting runner
Green Bay's team provided depth chart lists Alex Green as its starting running back, followed by James Starks and Brandon Saine.
Coach Mike McCarthy has expressed skepticism Green can handle a full workload in Cedric Benson's absence, but he's clearly the "next man up," so to speak. Starks has the longest track record of the three players, but the Packers' faith in him has gotten so low he was a healthy scratch for Week 5. It's a situation that will remain murky until the Pack play a game or two without Benson, but Green is the priority add for fantasy players.

Tue Oct 9 201208:14Packers not ready to hand Green the load
Coach Mike McCarthy expressed concern over giving Alex Green a full workload going forward.
With Cedric Benson (foot) out at least eight weeks, the Packers are expected to turn to a committee. Green rushed nine times for 55 yards in Week 5, but 41 of those yards came on one play. "There's some protection opportunities that we need to clean up and the course of certain runs," McCarthy said. "So, a young guy that took advantage of an opportunity and this will be an opportunity for him and James [Starks] and Brandon [Saine] to play this week against Houston."

Sun Oct 7 201217:07Alex Green totals 63 yards in loss
With Cedric Benson lost early in the second quarter, Alex Green rushed nine times for 55 yards in Green Bay's Week 5 loss to the Colts, adding one catch for eight yards.
It was a solid game on paper for a backup back who had just eight yards to his name entering play this afternoon, but 41 of Green's 55 rushing yards came on one carry. Otherwise, he gained more than two yards just three times, and was stopped for one yard or less five times. His long-gainer was a doozy, however, as he made an ankle-breaking cut in the middle of the field before exploding to the right for an extra 20-25 yards. Regardless, Green gave no indication he'll be able to carry the load if Benson is headed for an extended absence, and is headed for a timeshare with James Starks - who was a healthy scratch Sunday - if Benson isn't ready for Week 6.

Sun Sep 9 201221:29Alex Green doesn't appear in Green Bay's loss
Alex Green was active for Sunday's loss to the 49ers, but didn't play a snap.
Green was a late addition to the injury report with a knee ailment, but was listed as probable. With Cedric Benson failing to get anything going against the 49ers' dominant run defense, it would be a major cause for concern if Green was actually healthy enough to play but didn't get in. He's off the redraft radar until further notice.

Fri Sep 7 201217:58Alex Green listed as probable
Alex Green was a late addition to the Packers' Week 1 injury report with a knee injury, but is listed as probable.
Coach Mike McCarthy clarified after practice that Green was essentially given a day off. Green may only receive 5-7 touches against the 49ers coming off the bench behind Ced Benson. He's worth an RB4/5 stash, but not a viable Week 1 play.

Mon Aug 20 201209:48Alex Green still on a snap count
Alex Green (ACL surgery) remains on a snap count at Packers camp.
Green underwent surgery just nine months ago. Although he's ran with the first team of late and looked strong, this is a reminder that the Packers won't be relying on him as a workhorse. Veteran plodder Cedric Benson is the likely starter come Week 1 with James Starks (turf toe) at least a couple weeks away.

Thu Aug 16 201222:58Alex Green rushes for 16 yards vs. Cleveland
Starting the Packers' second preseason game, Alex Green rushed four times for 16 yards against the Browns.
We'd have to go back and chart it officially, but we believe Green was on the field for every single Packers' first-team possession, of which there were three. Cedric Benson (just signed) and James Starks (turf toe) didn't dress, so the "start" for Green was expected. There is still some feeling he could end up as Green Bay's 2012 primary back. Green will need to get better in blitz pickup -- he blew one against Cleveland -- but he can clearly hold his own in the passing game and has a decent amount of juice as a ball carrier.

Tue Aug 14 201210:50Alex Green starting to 'find his stride'
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Packers RB Alex Green has "started to find his stride in practice."
Per beat writer Tyler Dunne, Green is "cutting and sprinting with more confidence," and will "probably get a longer look" against the Browns on Thursday. Green carried the ball just three times for three yards in last week's preseason opener. Green's deep-league sleeper appeal took a hit when the Pack signed Cedric Benson, but he's still worth monitoring in PPR formats.

Thu Jul 26 201215:52McCarthy impressed with RB Green's form
Coach Mike McCarthy was impressed by Alex Green's (ACL surgery) speed through the hole in Wednesday's practice.
"When he hits it, he's top speed, when that crease or when he sees the opportunity for it to split," said McCarthy. "He's a powerful man, and he's got excellent leg drive and does a good job running behind his pads. I think he definitely can add to our running back group. It's great to have him back."

Tue Jul 17 201220:01Packers counting on RB Green for impact
Vic Ketchman of the Packers official website believes it's "obvious the Packers are really counting on" RB Alex Green (ACL surgery) to make an "impact" this season.
Ketchman acknowledges Green will be "one of the stories of training camp" as the coaching staff gauges his progress eight months removed from surgery. If Green needs more time to grow into the backup role, it's easy to envision the Packers "checking in" again on veteran free agents Cedric Benson and Ryan Grant.

Tue Jun 19 201216:40Alex Green turning the corner in recovery?
Packers RB Alex Green appears to have turned the corner in his recovery from ACL surgery.
Green was able to cut freely in outside zone plays during last Thursday's practice. He had no problem running all the routes required from running backs during minicamp. Of a training camp return, Green replied, "That's the plan. That's the goal." The Packers have yet to add a veteran tailback, suggesting there's no concern over Green's rate of recovery.
