Packers RB Alex Green (ACL surgery) is noncommittal on his availability for the start of training camp.
"I'm not sure," he said. "That's something we'll determine as we get closer to the regular season." We linked to a story suggesting Green could have a "sizable" 2012 role, but he missed all OTAs and may not even be healthy for camp. He's also added ten pounds since the end of last season and is up to 228.

Packers second-year RB Alex Green (ACL surgery) is not participating in OTAs.
Beat writer Rob Demovsky grouped Green with OT Derek Sherrod and TE Andrew Quarless as players recovering from major injuries who are "still out and likely will be till camp or beyond." Alex Green (torn ACL) graduated to straight-line running this week.

Sat Mar 31 201210:25McCarthy feels 'good' about Alex Green
Packers coach Mike McCarthy "(feels) good" about 2011 third-round pick Alex Green's (torn ACL) recovery.
"Alex looks really good," McCarthy said this week. "Just seeing him in the weight room every day, he looks like he's really progressing." Five months removed from his injury, Green could be ready for training camp if he's able to avoid setbacks. With little depth behind James Starks and Green, there's a good chance the Pack will use one of their 12 draft picks on a running back.

Wed Mar 28 201210:08Alex Green (ACL) making quick recovery
Coach Mike McCarthy indicated that RB Alex Green is making a "very quick" recovery from ACL surgery.
Green is still just over four months removed from surgery, so he's not going to participate in OTAs. The 2011 third-rounder should be rounding into form just as training camp opens.

Tue Nov 1 201116:45Alex Green's knee injury is torn ACL
Packers rookie RB Alex Green's season-ending left knee injury has been confirmed as a torn ACL.
Green will wait until the swelling goes down before going under the knife. The injury could throw a wrench into the Packers' 2012 backfield plans, as Green was expected to take on a more significant role with Ryan Grant entering free agency. This would seem to increase James Starks' chances of emerging as a clear-cut feature back next season, though a tailback addition can't be ruled out.

Packers placed RB Alex Green (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The Packers still haven't disclosed the exact nature of Green's injury, but he's expected to undergo surgery. The third-round pick finishes his rookie year with just four touches from scrimmage, appearing mostly on special teams in his three games. If healthy, Green could emerge as James Starks' backup next season. Ryan Grant is headed for free agency.

Packers rookie RB Alex Green's left knee injury is season ending.
The Packers have yet to divulge the nature of the third-round pick's injury, but did reveal he will require surgery "at some point." Considered the Packers' third-down back of the future, Green's playing time was mostly limited to special teams this season. With Ryan Grant set to hit the open market this winter, there's a chance Green and James Starks will enter 2012 as the Packers' top two backs.

Fri Sep 30 201109:51Packers confident in RB Alex Green
Packers RBs coach Jerry Fontenot is confident that Alex Green can succeed in a change-of-pace role if Ryan Grant (kidney) sits out this week.
"Alex is an explosive, quick-footed played," Fontenot said. "He's got great vision in space and he plays fast. That's the best thing I can say about him." The coaching staff is once again high on Grant, so Green is unlikely to earn a significant role even with an impressive performance.

Thu Sep 29 201108:15Alex Green will be active this week
Rookie RB Alex Green is expected to be active this week regardless of Ryan Grant's (kidney) status.
The Packers' medical staff has not yet cleared Ryan Grant and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel suggests the starter will be held out. That means Green, the Packers' third-round pick, will be "up" to back up James Starks. In three preseason games, Green rushed 16 times for merely 23 yards with a touchdown.

Packers rookie RB Alex Green is listed as questionable for Week 2 after his Achilles' "flared up" in practice this week.

Fri Sep 2 201102:07Alex Green struggles a second straight week
Packers rookie RB Alex Green finished the preseason with just 23 yards on 16 carries.
Green impressed with a nice play on a screen pass two weeks ago, but he hasn't found room to run behind the second-team offensive line. The third-rounder is working as the second-team third-down back while James Starks works with the first-team. He's worth watching on waiver wires, but undraftable in standard-sized leagues.

Sat Aug 20 201111:50McCarthy heaps praise on Alex Green
Packers HC Mike McCarthy says third-round RB Alex Green "seems to handle the third-down concepts and responsibilities seamlessly so far."
"I am very impressed the way he handles third down," McCarthy continued. "It's a tough down for a running back in our system." McCarthy did caution "I'm not ready to crown anybody here," but it certainly sounds like the Pack plan to give Green his fair share of looks on third down. He'll be worth monitoring in PPR leagues.

Tue Aug 2 201113:19Alex Green a candidate for kickoffs
Coach Mike McCarthy went "out of his way" to praise third-round RB Alex Green as a potential kickoff returner.
Green wasn't a returner at Hawaii, but he has the speed and moves to succeed on kickoffs. He'll battle fellow-rookie and likely punt returner Randall Cobb, who has wowed onlookers as a receiver early in camp.
