Sun Oct 6 201323:14Kaepernick doesn't have to do much in Week 5
Colin Kaepernick completed 6-of-15 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown in Sunday night's Week 5 win over the Texans.
Kaepernick literally didn't have to do anything in this one. The 49ers gained a comfortable lead thanks to Matt Schaub's turnovers. Frank Gore and Anthony Dixon cashed in with a couple of one-yard touchdown runs. Early in the fourth quarter, Kaepernick hooked up with Vernon Davis for a 64-yard touchdown. Colt McCoy entered the game with six minutes to go and the 49ers leading 34-3. The 49ers host the Cardinals next Sunday. Kaepernick is a back-end QB1.

Fri Sep 27 201300:15Kaepernick bounces back in Week 4 win
Colin Kaepernick completed 15-of-23 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday night's 35-11 Week 4 win over the Rams.
He added 11 yards on three carries. Kaepernick didn't throw for a ton of yards, but he was effective in the red-zone and finished with a 115.7 quarterback rating. It was a much needed bounce back after he combined for no touchdowns and four interceptions over the last two weeks. Kaepernick remains a strong QB1 option, but will have another tough matchup in Week 5 against the Texans.

Sun Sep 22 201319:27Kaep held to 170 yards in meek loss to Colts
Colin Kaepernick completed just 13-of-27 passes for 150 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception in San Francisco's Week 3 loss to the Colts.
He added seven rushes for 20 yards, and also lost a fumble. With Vernon Davis (hamstring) inactive, Kaepernick had even fewer people to throw to than he did in Seattle, and the Colts took advantage by bearing down on the box. Indy was ready for Kaep's scrambles, wrapping him before any damage was done, typically with a hard hit. By the end of the day, even Kaep's trademark tight spiral was looking shaky. Kaepernick simply doesn't have any weapons at his disposal, meaning fantasy expectations must be adjusted for the time being. We truly believe Kaep has MVP-level talent, but it apparently can't overcome the likes of Kyle Williams and Vance McDonald catching passes. Traveling to St. Louis for the Thursday night game, Kaep has a rough Week 4 matchup.

Mon Sep 16 201301:06Kaepernick has four turnovers on Sunday night
Colin Kaepernick completed 13-of-28 passes for 127 yards and three interceptions in Sunday night's Week 2 loss to the Seahawks.
Kaepernick was sacked three times and had four turnovers. He was held without a touchdown, averaged 4.5 yards-per-attempt, and had a brutal 20.1 quarterback rating. Kaepernick's only contributions came in the running game, where he finished with 87 yards on nine carries. He'll look to get back on track in Week 3 against the Colts.

Sun Sep 8 201320:15Colin Kaepernick terrorizes Packers again
Colin Kaepernick completed 27-of-39 passes for 412 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 1 win over the Packers.
It was another epic performance in the young but startlingly spectacular career of Kaepernick. He rushed just seven times for 22 yards, instead using his missile launcher of an arm to relentlessly target new No. 1 receiver Anquan Boldin for a 13/208/1 line. It was just as effective as last year's demolition of the Packers in the playoffs, but that time Kap ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He proved he can beat them -- and anyone in the league -- either way. Kaepernick will be a QB1 even though he'll be facing the rugged Seahawks defense in Seattle next week.

Sun Sep 8 201310:25Colin Kaepernick to be 'unleashed' on Sunday
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the 49ers plan to "unleash" Colin Kaepernick in Sunday's opener against the Packers.
Rapoport reports the 49ers "banned" Kaepernick from running during the preseason, as evidenced by his one scramble on 40 snaps played. Kaepernick torched the Packers in the playoffs last season, totaling 444 yards from scrimmage and 181 yards rushing. Rotoworld slots Kaepernick in as the No. 6 fantasy quarterback for the week, while our own Evan Silva likes him as a top-four option. You can access Rotoworld's Week 1 rankings at the link below.

Sun Aug 25 201321:33Kaepernick sharp in 3rd preseason game
Colin Kaepernick completed 7-of-13 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' third preseason game Sunday night.
He only has one rush in August, gaining six yards in the exhibition opener. Kaepernick has played as sparingly as any starting quarterback in the league during the preseason, perhaps in an effort by Jim Harbaugh to disguise what's coming when the real thing begins. Through three preseason games, Kap has completed 12-of-19 throws (63.2 percent) for 107 yards (5.63 YPA), one touchdown, and no picks. Despite a limited supporting cast on paper, Kaepernick as high a ceiling as any quarterback in football.

Mon Aug 19 201316:36Kaepernick named 49ers best player on offense
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco named Colin Kaepernick the 49ers' "offensive player of camp" for an outstanding August.
Per Maiocco, Kaepernick was "clearly the team's best offensive player," running the read option with "aplomb" and showing improved touch. Although Kap's sheer wide receiver corps is shallow and largely unimpressive, he targeted Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin "with regularity," and they could both be 2013 target monsters. Kaepernick has as high a ceiling as any quarterback in football.

Mon Jul 29 201313:58Colin Kaepernick improving on touch passes
According to CSN Bay Area, Colin Kaepernick has showed an "amazing" amount of improvement on touch passes, which was considered one of his weaknesses in previous training camps.
After re-watching all of Kaepernick's 2012 throws, ESPN's Ron Jaworski stated Kap "has a chance to be very special." Seems he's already making good in that promise. Ex-NFL scout John Middlekauff recently attended 49ers camp and came away saying Kaepernick was throwing "absolute lasers" in addition to the improved touch throws. Michael Crabtree's loss was a big blow, but Kaepernick has NFL MVP-caliber talent and remains a high-ceiling fantasy pick.

Mon Jul 29 201310:07Colin Kaepernick thinks he's gotten faster
Colin Kaepernick believes he's gotten faster after training with "Olympic runners and jumpers" this offseason.
"There are a lot of details to running that I never even thought about," Kaepernick said of his work with the track athletes. "I just went out and ran. I think I can be faster. I think I can be quicker." One of the most freakish athletes in North American sports, we wouldn't put it past him. Kaepernick has also reportedly been putting on a show as a passer in the early days of 49ers camp, which isn't surprising considering how well he showed after replacing Alex Smith. Only San Francisco's dicey receiver corps can slow Kaepernick down this season.

Fri Jul 12 201316:11Jaworski has high praise for Kaepernick
ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski believes Colin Kaepernick "has a chance to be very special."
Kaepernick checks in at No. 11 on Jaworski's QB rankings entering 2013. "Normally 10 NFL starts is not enough for me to evaluate a player so highly, but this kid has special talent, is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback with a power arm and outstanding athleticism," Jaworski said on ESPN, via Pro Football Talk. After playing exceptionally well for a second-year passer in the 2012 postseason, it will be fascinating to see what the skilled Kaepernick can do over a full season.

Tue May 14 201308:54Colin Kaepernick trained with track stars
Colin Kaepernick spent two weeks in April training with track athletes.
Kaepernick believes he can "get faster and more efficient with his stride." He was certainly fast enough last year as he averaged 6.6 yards per rush in the regular season and the ripped off a 25/264/3 line in the 49ers' three playoff games. With a full offseason under his belt as the starter and Anquan Boldin now in the mix, Kaep is primed to go off. A top-three fantasy finish among quarterbacks should surprise no one.

Fri Mar 22 201311:59Harbs cautions Kaepernick about working out
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has cautioned Colin Kaepernick not to get "too jacked-up."
Kaepernick has spent the entire offseason in the gym. "If you're just talking about weightlifting and upper-body strength, yes, I think there is that fear," Harbaugh said. "It's something we've talked about. 'I don't want you getting too jacked-up, Colin.' I want some speed, quickness, not just (flexing chest his muscles)." It says a lot about Kaepernick's future that getting too strong is his coach's fear. Kaepernick could be on the precipice of a colossal fantasy campaign.

Sat Feb 9 201319:41Terrell Suggs: Niners' Kaepernick 'the truth'
Terrell Suggs says he believed Colin Kaepernick was "all hype" before Super Bowl XLVII, but emerged from the game believing Kaepernick is "the truth."
"That kid's the truth," said Suggs. "Going into the game, I thought it was all hype. ... I hate quarterbacks, but that kid is the truth and I have the utmost respect for him. I don't think he needs to hold his head down at all because he's going to play in a few [Super Bowls]." In SB47, Kaepernick completed 16-of-28 passes for 302 yards while accounting for two touchdowns and one turnover, and tacking on 62 more yards rushing. We believe Kaepernick is "the truth" in fantasy football, as well.

Tue Feb 5 201315:36Colin Kaepernick to begin training in a week
Colin Kaepernick will begin training for the 2013 season within a week.
Kaepernick is reportedly "steaming" about San Francisco's Super Bowl loss to Baltimore and has already made plans with teammates for a quick training turnaround. Led by Kaepernick, 49ers players will head to Atlanta for workouts. If there were any lingering questions about Kaepernick's "leadership skills" or work ethic, this is a pretty strong answer. On Tuesday, Kaepernick described his breakout 2012 season to reporters "as not being good enough."

Sun Feb 3 201322:50Kaepernick rallies 49ers; comes up just short
Colin Kaepernick completed 16-of-25 passes for 302 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, and rushed seven times for 62 yards and a touchdown as San Francisco fell to Baltimore in Super Bowl XLVII, 34-29.
Kaepernick exacerbated the 49ers' first-half turnovers woes by following up a LaMichael James lost fumble with a pick thrown directly to Ravens FS Ed Reed, missing high badly on a pass intended for Randy Moss. As resilient as ever, Kaepernick rallied back San Francisco from a 28-6 margin with big-time scrambles on broken plays and cannon-armed throws to all parts of the field. Kap's most memorable run occurred early in the fourth quarter as he escaped the pocket on a blitz and burned Baltimore's defense for a 15-yard touchdown, narrowing the deficit to 31-29. On the 49ers' final meaningful play with under two minutes left, Kaepernick reacted to a Dannell Ellerbe blitz and simply threw the ball up for grabs out of the back of the end zone. Although Kaepernick clearly has some kinks to iron out, he offers elite fantasy upside with game-breaking running and passing skills. We'd already pencil him into the third round of 2013 drafts.

Thu Jan 31 201310:46Jaws: Kaep has tools to be best QB in NFL
ESPN's Ron Jaworski says Colin Kaepernick "has the ability" to be the best quarterback in the NFL.
Jaws is among the preeminent evaluators of NFL quarterbacks in the analyst game. He notes that Kaepernick has better accuracy than Cam Newton, more size than Robert Griffin III/Russell Wilson and more speed than Andrew Luck. His MLB-caliber pitching arm is as powerful as there is in the game. Jaws also believes Kaepernick will evolve into more of a pocket passer as time goes on, exposing him to less hits. Kaep is the odds-on favorite to win the MVP award in Sunday's Super Bowl at roughly 2-1.

Thu Jan 24 201318:27Baalke: Credit for Kaepernick goes to Coach
49ers GM Trent Baalke indicated that coach Jim Harbaugh was the driving force behind San Francisco's decision to trade up to draft Colin Kaepernick in 2011.
Kaepernick was widely viewed as a boom-or-bust project coming out of Nevada's Pistol Spread. Harbaugh accurately isolated him from the offense and pinpointed his "rare" traits, per Baalke. "A lot of credit goes to Coach on this as far as the evaluation process," Baalke explained. "He saw a lot of things in Colin that are starting to come out and was always a big supporter once he saw the film." Having manipulated former No. 1 overall bust Alex Smith into an efficient passer and morphed Kaepernick into one of the NFL's most explosive playmakers, Harbaugh has emerged as the NFL's premier quarterbacks guru.

Sun Jan 20 201318:44Kaepernick turnover free as Niners advance
Colin Kaepernick completed 16-of-21 throws for 233 yards and one touchdown, and rushed twice for 21 yards as San Francisco defeated Atlanta in Sunday's NFC title game.
He didn't commit a turnover and averaged over 11 yards per pass attempt. The 49ers smartly stuck with the run despite an early 17-point deficit, but it was Kaepernick's big throws that marched them downfield and kept the game competitive. His first run didn't come until late in the second quarter, with Kaepernick ripping off a dynamic 23-yard sideline sprint off the left edge. Kaepernick padded that late first-half possession with 19- and 25-yard connections to Vernon Davis capped by a four-yard touchdown to his tight end. Through two playoff wins, Kaepernick has completed 33-of-52 throws (63.5 percent) for 496 yards (9.54 YPC), and a 3:1 TD-to-INT ratio. Clearly, he's not just a running quarterback.

Sun Jan 13 201309:1449ers surprised Packers with heavy Pistol
49ers OC Greg Roman revealed after Saturday night's Divisional Round win that the Niners intentionally did not use the Pistol formation in Week 17 and barely used it in Week 16 to throw opponents off.
The Niners wanted opponents to think they'd scrapped the Pistol. They proceeded to use it on nearly 50 percent of their Divisional Round plays. "We didn't use it against the Cardinals because we wanted people to think we weren't going to use it," Roman said. Observed Packers GM Ted Thompson of Colin Kaepernick's performance, "That was unbelievable. He did everything. I mean, I had read the press clippings and seen some of the highlights. But to watch what he did ... oh my, that was special."
