Sun Oct 28 201220:38Phillip Tanner can't convert chances in loss
Phillip Tanner carried the ball twice for zero yards in Dallas' Week 8 loss to the Giants.
He added one catch for 13 yards. Both of Tanner's carries came from the Giants' one-yard line, but he could convert neither into a score. With DeMarco Murray possibly on track for a Week 9 return, Tanner's probably no longer worth a speculative-bench spot.

Thu Oct 25 201218:17Cowboys RB Tanner in on first-team reps
Phillip Tanner has taken "plenty" of first-team practice reps this week.
Tanner tied a career-high with 13 carries last week while playing two more snaps than Felix Jones. If one of Jones' various injuries knocks him out of Sunday's game versus the Giants, Tanner will finish as the feature back. Rotoworld ranks him No. 34 among running back options for Week 8.

Tue Oct 23 201218:19Tanner led backfield in snaps in Week 7
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner played more snaps (35) than Felix Jones (33) at Carolina in Week 7.
Jones saw 20 touches to Tanner's 14, but was banged up several times in the game. Tanner saw six of the final eight carries. DeMarco Murray (foot) is doubtful to play in Week 8. Jones is expected to start, but will be playing through a neck strain in addition to the knee injury. Tanner will have flex value again versus the Giants.

Sun Oct 21 201216:51Tanner held to 38 yards in backup role
Phillip Tanner was held to just 30 yards on 13 carries and eight yards on one reception at Carolina in Week 7.
Tanner was used as as a "breather" back early on before picking up eight carries as the clock killer in the fourth quarter. He managed just 2.3 yards per carry, as the Panthers shut down Dallas' ground attack. Regardless of DeMarco Murray's (foot) status, Tanner can be dropped in 12-team leagues heading into Week 8 versus the Giants.

Fri Oct 19 201210:50Tanner in mix for carries at Carolina
Coach Jason Garrett suggested that Phillip Tanner will have a significant role behind Felix Jones at Carolina this week.
Garrett expressed confidence in Jones' ability to run inside and outside, but he's had just two 20-carry games in his career. Expect Tanner to spell Jones for a series or two in each half, which could lead to 8-12 touches. He's a desperation flex option in fantasy leagues.

Wed Oct 17 201209:44Phillip Tanner played 16 snaps Week 6
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner played on 16-of-89 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
DeMarco Murray lasted 22 snaps before spraining his foot and Felix Jones was limited to 49 by some cramping. Tanner played well ahead of Lance Dunbar (two snaps), rushing nine times for 31 yards. The hard-running 2011 undrafted free agent will serve as "Fragile" Felix's backup against the Panthers on Sunday.

Sun Oct 14 201217:18Phillip Tanner runs for 31 yards in Week 6
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner rushed nine times for 31 yards as Dallas fell to Baltimore in Week 6.
Tanner saw an unexpected bump up in usage due to DeMarco Murray's second-half foot sprain, and Felix Jones' cramps. Though he lacks big-play run skills, Tanner runs hard and pushes the pile. He is Dallas' third-string back.

Fri Aug 31 201216:30Phillip Tanner wins No. 3 RB job
Phillip Tanner has won the No. 3 running back job.

Sat Aug 4 201215:30Phillip Tanner breaks hand, undergoes surgery
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner has suffered a broken hand that requires surgery, and will be sidelined a minimum of 1-2 weeks.
Per the San Antonio Express-News' Tom Orsborn, the "hope is" Tanner will be back before camp ends. Competing with UDFAs Lance Dunbar and Ed Wesley, Tanner was expected to keep his third-string job, but the injury certainly clouds his status. If Tanner misses the preseason and either Dunbar or Wesley is impressive, Tanner could be out of a job.

Tue Jul 31 201213:04Phillip Tanner has firm grip on No. 3 job
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner is expected to hold onto Dallas' third-string job.
Tanner is competing with undrafted rookies Lance Dunbar and Ed Wesley, but Cowboys Executive VP Stephen Jones believes he's going to be "hard" to beat out. "Good luck to the guy trying to unseat him," Jones said. "He'd better bring his lunch pail because it's going to be a hard task." Running behind injury-prone DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones, Tanner is a name to keep in mind in deeper fantasy leagues.

Wed May 23 201218:39Tanner recovered from hamstring injury
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner is fully recovered from last year's hamstring injury.
The injury ended Tanner's season in early December, but he was "quick and decisive" making cuts at Wednesday's OTA practice. Tanner will battle rookies Darrell Scott and Lance Dunbar for Dallas' third-string tailback job in camp.

Fri Dec 9 201116:34Cowboys place Phillip Tanner on I.R.
Cowboys placed RB Phillip Tanner on injured reserve with a hamstring strain, ending his season.
The strain must have been significant. Tanner, an undrafted rookie from Middle Tennessee, managed 76 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries (3.45 YPC) in nine appearances. The Cowboys will move forward with Felix Jones behind DeMarco Murray. They also have Chauncey Washington on the practice squad.

Sun Dec 4 201115:01Phillip Tanner inactive for Cowboys
Cowboys declared RB Phillip Tanner (hamstring) inactive for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Tanner didn't practice all week, hinting at a significant strain. DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones are the lone tailbacks active today. The rest of the Cowboys' inactives: QB Jon Kitna, RB Phillip Tanner, FB Tony Fiammetta, WR Miles Austin, G David Arkin, G Daniel Loper and DT Josh Brent.

Sun Nov 13 201116:45Phillip Tanner goes for 29 yards on 11 runs
Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner rushed 11 times for 29 yards in Dallas' Week 10 win over the Bills.
Tanner saw increased late-game carries with Dallas shelling Buffalo, 44-7. Tanner lacks the wiggle and power of DeMarco Murray, and will experience a role reduction when Felix Jones (ankle) gets back. Don't think these 11 carries, a season-high for Tanner, represent any sort of sign of things to come.

Mon Oct 31 201100:26Phillip Tanner held to one carry
Phillip Tanner carried the ball just once in Sunday's blowout loss to the Eagles, rushing for two yards.
He added two catches for 19 yards. Dallas fell behind 21-0 early in the second quarter, forcing it to completely abandon the run against Philadelphia's sieve-like run defense. With Tashard Choice now out of the picture, Tanner shouldn't have many more one-carry nights, but won't be worth an add barring injury to DeMarco Murray.

Tue Oct 25 201113:45Garrett pleased with Tanner's performance
Coach Jason Garrett was pleased with Phillip Tanner's performance in garbage time against the Rams last week.
"He did a real nice job," Garrett said. "You guys have heard me talk about guys taking advantage of the opportunities they get and Phillip has done that since Day One. ... We handed him the ball six times yesterday and he was productive with that." With Tashard Choice (shoulder) banged up, Tanner could move up to No. 2 on the depth chart for this week's game against the Eagles.

Sun Oct 23 201120:43Tanner goes for 34 yards on first '11 carries
Phillip Tanner carried the ball six times for 34 yards in Sunday's win over the Rams.
With Tashard Choice knocked out with injury, Tanner made the most of his first six carries of the season, finding the end zone for a six-yard score early in the fourth quarter. His 34 yards are almost half as many as the 75 Choice has gained on his first 28 carries this season. With Felix Jones expected to miss his second straight game in Week 8 against the Eagles, Tanner is a good bet to get some work behind DeMarco Murray.

Fri Sep 2 201100:23Jerry Jones: Tanner has made the team
Owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Middle Tennessee State undrafted rookie RB Phillip Tanner will make the 53-man roster.
"He's special," said Jones. "His coach says, 'I've never seen a kid like this.' You've never seen anybody who takes every note, that tries every way in the world he can to get better plus he's talented." Jones says the Cowboys may now keep four backs after Tanner rushed for 128 yards on 23 carries (5.6 YPC) in the preseason. If they keep only three, Tashard Choice will be the odd man out.
