Davis' teammate, Shaun Hill (quad) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

Previous reports suggested that the Rams were expected to start Davis in Sunday's contest, but in advance of the game, the team has yet to announce a starter at QB, with ESPN's Nick Wagoner noting that both QB's took pre-game reps. There's enough uncertainly here leading up to kickoff to make either QB a risky roll.

With Hill barely practicing this past week and Davis leading the Rams to a win last Sunday, it would be a big surprise to see Davis not get the start. He hasn't thrown a touchdown yet this year, but has been efficient and mistake-free.

Hill will undergo additional tests Monday to determine the extent of the injury, but if he has to miss any time, Davis will likely start Week 2 at Tampa Bay.

Davis is solidly set at the backup position unless St. Louis signs an outside quarterback. He has played fairly well in the preseason but has yet to play a regular season snap.

Davis threw for 198 yards on 14 of 22 passing, garnering two touchdowns and a pick in a 33-14 preseason win over the Browns.

Davis played well in third string action and appears to have the inside track to the third QB slot over Garrett Gilbert. With Sam Bradford injured as well, it's almost guaranteed Davis will have a roster spot in week one.

Davis was 10-of-16 for 134 yards and a touchdown in a 26-24 loss to New Orleans in preseason play Friday.

Davis is in a fight with Garrett Gilbert for the third quarterback spot and seems to have gotten the first punch in, as he outplayed Gilbert on Friday. If he plays like he did Friday, Davis may snatch up that No. 3 QB position.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the Rams are "strongly considering" taking a quarterback in May's draft.

GM Les Snead has ruled out using a first-round pick at the position, but it'll be in play after that. Sam Bradford has shown an inability to sustain health or effectiveness, and backup Shaun Hill is 34 years old. Austin Davis is not a legit developmental option. Beat writer Jim Thomas mentions Pittsburgh's Tom Savage, SMU's Garrett Gilbert, Georgia's Aaron Murray, Fresno State's Derek Carr and Clemson's Tajh Boyd (among others) as possibilities.
