Sat Jun 28 201410:58Alfred Morris 'will still be a factor'
ESPN Redskins reporter John Keim believes RB Alfred Morris "will still be a factor" in new coach Jay Gruden's offense.
The switch from run-focused OC Kyle Shanahan to the more pass-happy Gruden has some concerned Morris will see his usage numbers decline. Keim does not see it, citing BenJarvus Green-Ellis' 278 carries under Gruden two years ago and the lack of a true passing-down back in Washington as reasons Morris will retain a large share of the workload. Even with the offensive switch, Morris has a good shot to break the 275-carry barrier for the third-straight season.

Wed Mar 26 201407:43Skins HC Gruden: Alf lacks 'natural hands'
Redskins coach Jay Gruden admitted at the NFL meetings that he does not see Alfred Morris as a player who possesses "natural hands," and envisions only "20-25 catches" for Morris in his offense.
Gruden said he "hopes" Morris can catch 20-25 passes, indicating that's Alf's ceiling. It's a growing concern for Morris' fantasy value as the Redskins transition away from Kyle Shanahan's run-foundation offense into Gruden's pass-happy scheme. We may see more of passing-down back Roy Helu and less of Morris, in a BenJarvus Green-Ellis/Giovani Bernard kind of backfield rotation.

Sat Jan 18 201415:09Redskins likely to keep zone-blocking scheme
Redskins OC Sean McVay expects the team's running game to be remain "very similar" under new coach Jay Gruden.
The Redskins are expected to keep their zone-blocking scheme and incorporate the same concepts they ran with Mike Shanahan, relying on a power running game from Alfred Morris and read-option plays with Robert Griffin III. Morris rushed for 2,888 yards in his first two seasons under Shanahan and will continue to be a big part of the offense, with Roy Helu likely remaining in a third down role. "I don't think it will change a lot," McVay said. "The foundation and base principles will remain the same. He'll be the same guy."

Sun Dec 22 201318:03Alfred Morris punches in another score
Alfred Morris rushed 24 times for 88 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Cowboys.
Unlike the Cowboys, the Redskins are committed to the run in all scenarios. Morris took advantage of that once again, punishing defenders with his between-the-tackles style and plunging in from four yards out in the third quarter. Heading into Week 17, Morris quietly has 260 carries for 1,213 yards and seven touchdowns. He's been a non-PPR beast despite the Redskins' woes this season.

Sun Dec 8 201317:06Morris gets the ball only 12 times in loss
Alfred Morris rushed 12 times for just 31 yards in Washington's lopsided Week 14 loss to the Chiefs.
The wheels are coming off in Washington, where the Redskins bafflingly never committed to their elite back on the ground despite snowy conditions. The Chiefs did commit to the run game as they raced to a 31-0 lead just 20 minutes into the game. Coach Mike Shanahan and his kid OC Kyle stubbornly stuck with the pass, and it got the Redskins nowhere fast. With the Redskins' season in the toilet and play-calling in the gutter, Morris can't be trusted as more than a mid-range RB2 for the final two weeks of the fantasy playoffs despite his fantastic season up to this point.

Wed Dec 4 201308:16Shanny blames Morris' lack of usage on plan
Coach Mike Shanahan blamed Alfred Morris' meager 11 carries from Week 13 on the Giants' gameplan.
After the game, the Giants came out and explicitly said their goal was to stop Morris and make Robert Griffin III beat them. So on the majority of option plays, RG3's (correct) read was to keep the ball. "They decided to take away Alfred Morris," Shanahan said. "And normally they don't always do that." Alf owners shouldn't panic heading into a Week 14 home game against a declining Chiefs defense. He'll be a fine RB1 play in non-PPR formats.

Sun Dec 1 201323:59Alfred Morris finds end-zone in Week 13
Alfred Morris had 11 carries for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's Week 13 loss to the Giants.
Morris scored on a one-yard carry on the Redskins opening drive of the game, but was a non-factor in the second half. Despite losing significant snaps to third down back Roy Helu, he was surprisingly involved in the passing game this week and added three catches for 27 yards. Morris is on pace for 275 carries, 1, 328 yards, and eight touchdowns through 12 games and will be on the RB1 radar for next week's matchup with the Chiefs.

Mon Nov 25 201323:56Alf Morris rushes for 52 yards in MNF loss
Alfred Morris rushed for 52 yards on 14 carries in the Redskins' Week 12 loss to the 49ers on Monday night.
Morris wasn't involved in the passing game, and it was the first time he's been held below 93 yards on the ground since Week 6. He'd been held under 71 yards rushing just one time all season before Monday, which shows how good he's been on a bad team. The 49ers, of course, are one of the tougher teams to run on, and it didn't help that the Redskins were trailing by two or more scores for much of the second half. Morris will be back on the RB1 radar next week against the Giants.

Sun Nov 17 201317:42Alfred Morris held out of end zone yet again
Alfred Morris rushed 22 times for 93 yards in Sunday's Week 11 loss at Philadelphia.
It was a standard day at the office for Morris. He continually broke through tackles with his unique power, breaking off at least 4.0 YPC for the ninth straight game. Of course, his fantasy owners will be disappointed because he failed to catch a pass for the eighth straight game and failed to get in the end zone again. Morris is averaging 91.8 rushing yards per day, but will just be a RB2 against the 49ers rugged run defense in Week 12.

Thu Nov 7 201323:55Alfred Morris rolls up 139 yards in loss
Alfred Morris rushed 26 times for 139 yards in Washington's Week 10 loss to the Vikings.
Once again, Morris beasted both between the tackles and in the open field. But as has become the theme, he wasn't rewarded with a touchdown. Morris did get two goal-line looks, including one from the one-yard line, but was stymied on both. Otherwise, Washington primarily passed near the Vikings' end zone, and also gave looks to Roy Helu and FB Darrel Young. Morris' lack of touchdowns is frustrating fantasy owners, but there's a good chance his 91.6 rushing yards per game leads the league after Week 10. Morris is averaging 5.18 yards per carry, and has 51 totes over his past two games.

Sun Nov 3 201317:47Alfred Morris' owners robbed of huge day
Alfred Morris rushed 25 times for 121 yards with one touchdown in Sunday's Week 9 overtime win over the Chargers.
It's a big day that could have been much, much bigger. The Redskins found that a FB dive to Darrel Young worked, and executed that play three times for scores. Those touchdowns easily could have gone to Alf. Regardless, the second-year power back continues to shed tackles and run with impressive power, holding off Roy Helu (two carries) for all early-down work. Morris is on pace for 266 carries, 1,372 yards and 10 touchdowns. He remains a non-PPR beast heading into a nice matchup with the Vikings on Thursday night.

Sun Oct 27 201320:05Alfred Morris goes 17/93/1 versus Broncos
Alfred Morris rushed 17 times for 93 yards and a touchdown in Washington's Week 8 loss to the Broncos.
Morris was running all over the Broncos early, but bafflingly got the ball just five times after his early third-quarter score put the Redskins up 14-7 with 11:37 remaining in the third period. Morris did fumble in the fourth, but Washington recovered. Either way, Morris out-touched Roy Helu 17-6, and upped his season yards per carry to 5.23. He remains a borderline RB1 in Washington's hot-and-cold offense.

Sun Oct 20 201317:08Alfred Morris kept out of end zone Week 7
Alfred Morris rushed 19 times for 95 yards in Sunday's Week 7 win over the Bears.
This one is going to make Alf's owners pull their hair out. The Redskins ran at will on the Bears and scored 45 points, but Morris couldn't find the end-zone as he watched Roy Helu score three times. Helu's scores came mostly out of the hurry-up, but it's certainly a concern going forward. Simply put, Helu is earning more and more work as the season moves along. Still, Morris is averaging 5.18 YPC on the season and continues to churn up yards after contact. He's the clear-cut starter and high-end RB2, but one without a ton of upside thanks to his inability in the passing game and Helu's emergence.

Mon Oct 14 201300:19Alfred Morris rushed for 81 yards, TD on SNF
Alfred Morris had 16 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown in Sunday night's Week 6 loss to Dallas.
Morris was held in check for most of the game before breaking off a 45-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. He benefitted from the Redskins moving back to more read-option looks in their offense and didn't appear limited by his pre-bye week rib injury. He was only targeted once by Robert Griffin III and is removed on third downs in favor or Roy Helu. Morris now has three touchdowns through his first five games and is locked in as an RB1 going forward.

Wed Oct 9 201320:20Alfred Morris practicing fully this week
Alfred Morris (ribs) is practicing fully this week.
Morris admits he still feels "some remnants" of his pre-bye week rib injury, but he's not going to miss Week 6. The Redskins visit the Cowboys this week.

Wed Oct 9 201313:26Alf Morris (ribs) says he'll play vs. Cowboys
Alfred Morris says his bruised ribs are no longer an issue and he'll play Sunday night against the Cowboys.
"All is well with me," Morris said. "There are some remnants of it. But it's nothing serious, nothing that will hinder me out there playing, so I'm not worried about it." Morris will wear some extra padding around his torso area. He says it's a bit "annoying," but it shouldn't affect his game. Morris ran for 313 yards and four touchdowns in two games against Dallas last season. He's a top-ten fantasy running back play for Week 6.

Tue Oct 8 201307:53Alfred Morris was 'full-go' at Monday workout
Alfred Morris (ribs) told ESPN980 that he was a full-go at Monday's practice.
The Redskins held a light workout Monday as they came out of their bye. Coach Mike Shanahan didn't speak to reporters and won't file an official injury report until Wednesday, but Morris did participate. It looks like his bruised ribs won't be a major issue this week. Explosive backup and third-down man Roy Helu remains a player worth rostering just in case there's a setback here.

Tue Oct 1 201308:17Alfred Morris says his ribs are 'all good'
Alfred Morris downplayed his rib injury Monday.
Morris was forced out of Sunday's win at Oakland in the third quarter. But X-rays revealed no break and Alf says he's fine. "I mean, a little tender still but nothing serious so I'm all good." The official diagnosis is bruised ribs, an injury that can linger and get aggravated easily. But with the Redskins on a bye, Morris should be ready to go come Week 6. Dynamic backup Roy Helu remains a priority add just in case.
