Thu Oct 10 201309:46Schefter: David Wilson out few weeks for now
ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that David Wilson (neck) is out a "few weeks, for now."
Wilson's exact timetable is pending a Monday examination in Los Angeles from noted doctor Robert Watkins. For now, no one should be expecting to see Wilson before the Week 9 bye. If he plays again this season, he'll likely be fighting with Andre Brown for carries. Brown is due back from his leg injury in Week 10.

Wed Oct 9 201320:29Giants RB Wilson has disc-related neck injury
Citing an NFL source, the NY Daily News reports David Wilson has a disc-related neck injury and "will likely be out several weeks."
Or at least that's the Giants' current understanding, pending the results of Wilson's Monday trip to neck specialist Dr. Robert Watkins. Said one source, "With treatment, this thing could settle down within a couple of weeks." The Giants have a Week 9 bye, so they only play two games over the next 30 days. The team's goal is to try to get the tingling and nerve reaction in Wilson's neck to "settle down." Brandon Jacobs and Da'Rel Scott will share the backfield in the meantime. Andre Brown is eligible to resume playing in football games in Week 10. It's shaping up as a star-crossed, lost season for both Wilson and the G-Men.

Wed Oct 9 201319:03Report: D. Wilson could miss 'multiple games'
Art Stapleton of the Bergen Record is "hearing" David Wilson's neck injury could cost him "multiple games."
Stapleton acknowledges "multiple games" could mean just Thursday night and Week 7, and he has "not heard" Wilson is in danger of missing the season's remainder. Stapleton says Wilson's presence at practice this week, even though he wasn't participating, "led me to believe he'd be back soon." The Giants will know more when Wilson's second opinion is given by Dr. Robert Watkins next Monday. Fantasy owners need to keep Wilson stashed as an injured RB4/5. There's an awful lot of season left.

Wed Oct 9 201308:58Wilson's 2nd opinion won't come til next week
Sources tell the Daily News that David Wilson (neck) won't receive his second opinion until next week.
Wilson is in a holding pattern until he gets further testing. He's just watching practice from the sideline and will not play in Thursday's game against the Bears. There's no word on why he has to wait another week to get another opinion, but it leaves owners with no choice but to just stash the disappointing second-year man on benches. Coach Tom Coughlin is calling Wilson "week to week," suggesting he's very questionable for Week 7.

Tue Oct 8 201313:41David Wilson (neck) ruled out for Thursday
David Wilson (neck) has been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the Bears.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin decided to admit the obvious Tuesday instead of dragging Wilson's status out for another 48 hours. It leaves the Giants with a Week 6 backfield of Da'Rel Scott and Brandon Jacobs, which should be one of the least effective running back duos we see all season. With the Giants again in danger of getting blown out in Chicago, neither player figures to see more than 10-12 touches. You can do better for a FLEX option in a week where only two teams are on bye. Wilson should be considered week to week, and questionable - at best - for Week 7.

Tue Oct 8 201312:34David Wilson watching practice Tuesday
David Wilson (neck) was present for practice Tuesday, but was not participating.
Wilson was just a bystander, but it's a reasonably good sign he's not meeting with docs or getting treatment. It suggests he's just waiting for the opinions on his injury to roll in. Regardless, Wilson is almost certainly out for Thursday's game against the Bears. Owners should just be hoping it doesn't turn into a multi-week injury.

Mon Oct 7 201318:09David Wilson held out of Giants practice
David Wilson (neck) was held out of Giants practice Monday.
It's a bit surprising the Giants haven't signed a new tailback yet, though they figure to on Tuesday. Wilson is a long shot to play in Thursday's game against the Bears. Backup Brandon Jacobs has been miserable in his place.

Mon Oct 7 201316:08David Wilson has 'some kind of a tingling'
David Wilson (neck) is dealing with "some kind of a tingling," and is uncertain for Thursday's game against the Bears.
Any kind of a "tingling" is no small matter, so Wilson should be considered no better than 50-50 for Week 6 for the time being. With just Brandon Jacobs and practice-squad type Michael Cox behind Wilson on the depth chart, the Giants will have to make a move at running back if Wilson can't go. Re-signing Da'Rel Scott is a possibility.

Sun Oct 6 201318:19David Wilson: I left the game as a precaution
David Wilson (neck) confirmed on Twitter that he exited Sunday's game in the first half as a precaution.
He appears to be day to day; FOX Sports also reported earlier Wilson did not reenter for precautionary reasons. Wilson insists he "passed all the tests," and at one point appeared poised to go back in before the Giants shut him down on the sideline. "Be back next week," Wilson tweeted. We'll see. The Giants will be playing the Bears on a short week on Thursday Night Football.

Sun Oct 6 201313:50David Wilson scores a TD, then hurts his neck
David Wilson left Sunday's game against the Eagles in the second quarter with a neck injury.
Wilson hurt himself on an ugly play in which he got knocked backward into his own end zone. He quickly went into the locker room. It's especially disappointing because Wilson took a goal-line draw for a 5-yard touchdown -- his first score of the season -- on the Giants' opening drive. Washed up Brandon Jacobs is on as the feature back. Wilson is officially "questionable" to return.

Sun Oct 6 201311:15Report: Giants to lean on running game vs PHI
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported the Giants intend to lean on their running game in Week 5 to "keep that offense on schedule," and "keep the high-flying Eagles offense off the field."
Better late than never, we suppose. The Giants are 0-4 and have not been committed to their run game to this point, despite the fact their defense is allowing the most points in football and their offensive line can't protect. Coach Tom Coughlin told reporters this week he wants to see David Wilson get back into the end zone. Consider Wilson a high-upside, if risky Week 5 flex play.

Thu Oct 3 201310:52Coughlin: Wilson, Jacobs will form 1-2 punch
Coach Tom Coughlin stated Wednesday it's "safe to say" David Wilson and Brandon Jacobs will form a "one-two punch" in the Giants' backfield moving forward.
Da'Rel Scott's release frees up a ton of snaps -- he was playing almost 50 percent of the downs -- so Wilson and Jacobs will both get more. Coughlin emphasized that Jacobs "certainly can get more" reps. "I think he's still a powerful guy that we're going to utilize in those short-yardage and goal-line situations," Coughlin said of Jacobs. "I wish we had more of them. But he's had a couple weeks to get himself orientated again back into the routine, etc. He actually has played on a lot of special teams and contributed a week ago."

Tue Oct 1 201318:09Giants trust in David Wilson increasing?
The Bergen Record's Art Stapleton believes the Giants' release of Da'Rel Scott "presumably" means "more trust" in David Wilson, and potentially more playing time for Brandon Jacobs and/or rookie Michael Cox.
Stapleton is just guessing, obviously, and this line of thinking is subject to change if the Giants sign a passing-down specialist like Tim Hightower off the street tomorrow. For his part, Wilson has both pass protected well and displayed ball security in every game since the opener. Scott's release wasn't surprising because he was an ineffective player, but he was playing a lot of snaps -- more than Wilson to this point. It appears Wilson is going to get his opportunity to regain every-down back duties in Week 5 against the Eagles.

Mon Sep 23 201313:36David Wilson leads Giants in backfield snaps
David Wilson led the Giants' backfield in Week 3 snaps, playing 25 downs compared to Da'Rel Scott's 21 and Brandon Jacobs' 6.
Look beyond the box score and the usage numbers were actually promising for Wilson; Scott's playing time only received a bump because the Giants were in pass-oriented comeback mode all game. Wilson ripped off a number of impressive runs when he wasn't getting hit in the backfield, and had a 17-yard TD negated by a penalty at the line. Wilson remains a recommended fantasy buy low.

Fri Sep 20 201312:55Giants want balance on offense
Giants OC Kevin Gilbride emphasized the team is indeed seeking balance on offense and needs more from its run game.
The Giants have had a ton of preseason and early-year O-Line shakeup, but are finally rounding into shape with C David Baas healthy. Under Gilbride and Tom Coughlin, the Giants want to be a balanced offense, and not one-dimensional. They've been one-dimensional through two games, and their quarterback leads the NFL with seven interceptions, and their record is 0-2. "We're definitely going to make an effort to run," Gilbride said. "We're definitely going to do whatever we can to be as balanced as we can." Gilbride added the Giants will ride the hot hand in their Week 3 backfield: "The only thing I care about is are we moving the ball? If (starter David Wilson) is running and making yardage, then he'll get it. If he's not, then somebody else will get a chance to carry it or we'll be throwing it."

Tue Sep 17 201319:42ESPN New York: Give the ball to David Wilson
ESPN New York believes it's time for Giants coach Tom Coughlin to "put aside his worries and concern and give the ball" to David Wilson.
So do we. The Giants have a pathetic 73 yards rushing through two games, and aren't going to get a spark from fringe NFLer Da'Rel Scott or used-up veteran Brandon Jacobs. The Giants need to not only lean on Wilson, but let him know it's not the end of the world if he occasionally fumbles. Adrian Peterson was among the backs to lose fumbles in Week 2. It happens. Wilson appeared to be gripping the ball so tight against the Broncos that he was leaving yards on the field. Wilson's Week 1 performance was unacceptable, but it's time for Coughlin and his 0-2 team to move on.

Mon Sep 16 201309:33David Wilson played 24 snaps in Week 2
David Wilson played on 24-of-79 snaps (30.3 percent) in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.
As the passing-down back for a team playing from behind most of the day, Da'Rel Scott led the backfield in snaps with 39. Brandon Jacobs was mostly a short-yardage and goal-line runner, seeing just 14 snaps in his season debut. Wilson, the starter, didn't make any glaring mistakes but didn't shine either (17 yards on nine carries). The good news is the Giants have a better chance of getting a lead against the Panthers in Week 3. Wilson should see something closer to 50 percent of the snaps. The Giants know they can't win with a plodding 31-year-old in Jacobs and a borderline NFL player in Scott.
