Fri Jul 26 201317:34Nick Foles got 18 snaps with the starters
Nick Foles had 18 first-team snaps during Friday's first full-squad practice compared to 25 for Michael Vick.
Although Vick took the first snap with the starters, it's clear he has a competition on his hands. The coaches are giving Foles nearly as many reps with the 1s, something that figures to continue until one quarterback separates himself. If neither one does, the job will be Vick's. It's considered his to lose.

Fri Jul 19 201308:33Nick Foles thinks arm has gotten stronger
Nick Foles believes his arm has gotten stronger.
"I feel like (my arm is) even stronger now just training, nutrition, everything," Foles said. "I think that your arm can get stronger." Foles' arm strength has never been a weakness, but is not an overwhelming strength, either. It's more than big enough for the NFL, but can't match up with Michael Vick's. It's unlikely to be a major factor in the Eagles' quarterback competition.

Mon Jul 15 201317:56Report: Foles outplayed Vick at OTAs/minicamp
According to the Allentown Morning Call's Jimmy Kempski, Nick Foles is "in the lead" of the Eagles' quarterback derby because Foles "outplayed" Michael Vick at OTAs and minicamp.
Kempski acknowledges Vick's superior physical tools, but Foles "got the ball out quicker" at spring practices, "was generally more accurate," and put receivers in better position to rack up yards after catch. Kempski also insists Foles looks "far better" than he did last spring, even demonstrating improved velocity on intermediate and vertical throws. If Foles carries his momentum into August, the Eagles could wind up fielding far more of a traditional "pro-style" offense than anyone might've imagined from a Chip Kelly team.

CSN Philly's Reuben Frank believes Nick Foles is the "best guy' for the Eagles" quarterback job.

Tue Jul 9 201316:51Foles' faster release an edge over Vick?
PhiladelphiaEagles.com's Adam Caplan believes Nick Foles' ability to get the ball out of his hands faster than Michael Vick could "go a long way" in the Eagles' quarterback competition.
That's if Foles can keep it up in minicamp and the preseason. New coach Chip Kelly preaches pace and mistake-free football, and Vick has never been particularly adept at either. Foles' lack of athleticism will be his biggest obstacle to beating out Vick in camp.

Wed Jul 3 201314:42Foles the leader in Eagles' QB competition?
CSN Philly considers Nick Foles the leader in the Eagles' quarterback competition.
Beat writer Geoff Mosher believes Chip Kelly's selection of Matt Barkley signalled he was serious when he insisted his offense didn't require a mobile quarterback. Mosher also contends Foles and Michael Vick's 50-50 timeshare in OTAs "further fostered the idea" that Kelly will select the quarterback with the best overall skill-set, and not just athleticism. We've been skeptical there's a true competition in Philly, but there's enough smoke to suggest that Foles at least has an outside shot. It's just hard to get past the $3.5 million signing bonus the Eagles gave Vick in February.

Wed Jun 12 201309:38DeSean: Vick and Foles have been even
DeSean Jackson said the competition between Michael Vick and Nick Foles has been "pretty even" so far.
Jackson doesn't seem to think coach Chip Kelly is leaning one way or the other. "Vick and Foles have been switching off first team, second team," he said. Note that Jackson didn't even include rookie Matt Barkley in the competition. Despite pleas from Vick and D-Jax for a starter to be named before camp, we're not expecting Kelly to tip his hand until mid-August.

Mon May 20 201315:20Nick Foles gets more reps than Mike Vick
Nick Foles took 21 first-team quarterback reps at Eagles OTAs Monday, while Michael Vick received only 15.
Vick had the edge last Monday, getting 21 reps compared to Foles' 16. Matt Barkley has been getting more third-team reps ahead of Dennis Dixon and G.J. Kinne. The Eagles will distribute quarterback reps in an effort to create at least an illusion of an open competition. We fully expect Vick to win the starting job.

Fri May 10 201308:52Foles 'sprinkled in' with first-team offense
Jeremy Maclin says Nick Foles was "sprinkled in" on the first-team offense during Eagles' voluntary workouts.
Coach Chip Kelly has continued to claim Foles is on even footing with Michael Vick, but this - along with everything else - would suggest otherwise. The Eagles didn't give Vick a $3.5 million signing bonus with the intention of him holding a clipboard in 2013. That should be Foles' primary duty.

Thu May 2 201312:30Eagles were approached about Foles trade
The Eagles were reportedly approached by at least one team during the draft regarding a Nick Foles trade.
Per Philly Mag, the Eagles "weren't all that interested in engaging in talks." New coach Chip Kelly has been highly complementary of Foles and GM Howie Roseman personally called Foles amid all the trade speculation to express that the team wanted to keep him. With the oft-injured Michael Vick working on a one-year deal and Matt Barkley a complete unknown, keeping Foles around makes plenty of sense.

Mon Apr 29 201318:55Nick Foles to be Eagles' Week 1 starter?
The Philadelphia Daily News projects Nick Foles as the Eagles' Week 1 starting quarterback.
Daily News columnist/reporter Paul Domowitch submitted his Week 1 lineup projection without comment, but he's clearly anticipating Foles beating out Michael Vick and Matt Barkley. While we tentatively still anticipate Vick winning the battle, it's a reminder that the Eagles are in no way committed to any of their QBs for the long term and it will be an open competition in training camp.

Tue Mar 19 201310:31Eagles didn't want to trade Foles to Chiefs
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the Eagles did not want to trade QB Nick Foles.
Prior to the Alex Smith trade, Reid reached out to his former employers to inquire about Foles. Either the Eagles' asking price was too high, or they simply didn't want to move him at that point. Regardless, Reid says conversations ended there. We still suspect that Foles is available via trade ahead of April's draft.

Wed Feb 27 201314:12Nick Foles now unlikely to go to Kansas City
ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on SportsCenter that the Alex Smith deal "squashes" the notion of a Nick Foles-to-Kansas City trade.
We wonder if Philly overplayed its hand here. The Eagles openly claimed Foles was available only for a first- or second-round pick, despite his obviously poor fit under Chip Kelly. If the Eagles are going to trade Foles -- and Schefter reported that "people around the league" still believe they will -- they may have to settle for a middle-round pick after alienating his likeliest suitor.

Sat Feb 23 201311:28Eagles, Chiefs discuss Foles swap at Combine
USA Today reports that the Eagles and Chiefs indeed discussed a trade that would send Nick Foles to Kansas City this week.
A source tells USA Today's Mike Garafolo that "no progress has been made," but that obviously is subject to change. The Eagles are reportedly "conveying" to the Chiefs that they plan to keep Foles, likely in order to maintain leverage in future trade negotiations. It's believed Philadelphia would accept a second-day draft pick for Foles. He was the 88th overall pick last April.

Thu Feb 21 201317:23Nick Foles available for a third-round pick?
ESPN's Chris Mortensen stated on NFL 32 Thursday that he believes Nick Foles could be acquired for a third-round pick.
Foles-to-Kansas City is the obvious connection because Andy Reid drafted Foles and the Chiefs need a quarterback. (Desperately.) "I do believe there is some substance to the desire to talk to the Eagles about Nick Foles," said Mort. "I think it'd take probably a third-rounder to get Foles. So I wouldn't close the door on that." In an ideal world, the Chiefs could acquire Foles for a third-rounder, re-sign Dwayne Bowe, and perhaps draft Luke Joeckel at No. 1 overall.

Thu Feb 21 201314:49Chip Kelly: I want to coach Nick Foles
When asked about trading Nick Foles, coach Chip Kelly said, "I want to coach Nick."
Kelly said there have been no trade conversations, but "you're always going to listen." The coach added that he can see Foles running his offense. There's nothing here that we haven't heard yet this offseason. Foles isn't a scheme fit, so look for the Eagles to try dealing him to a quarterback-needy team before the draft.

Fri Feb 15 201315:58Report: Eagles haven't discussed Foles trade
A source close to the situation tells the Philadelphia Daily News that the Eagles have "not even discussed" trading Nick Foles, and "want to keep Nick."
We'll believe it when we see it. Foles is not a fit for Chip Kelly's offensive design, and it's incredibly difficult to imagine the Eagles thinking otherwise after they re-signed Michael Vick to a deal worth $7-10 million for 2013. Look for Philly to trade Foles before the draft, targeting someone like Arizona's Matt Scott to develop along with Vick and backup Dennis Dixon.
