Mon Dec 9 201314:26John Carlson suffers Week 14 concussion
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier confirmed John Carlson suffered a concussion in Sunday's Week 14 loss to Baltimore.
Kyle Rudolph's recovery from a fractured foot has progressed more slowly than hoped, so the Vikings are paper thin at tight end. Carlson had two catches for 19 yards before departing Sunday. His Week 15 status is up in the air.

Sun Dec 8 201318:02John Carlson suffers potential concussion
John Carlson caught two passes for 19 yards before departing with a potential concussion in Minnesota's Week 14 loss to the Ravens.
Coach Leslie Frazier declined to update Carlson's status after the game. It's ominous news for a player with a long history of concussions. Carlson's status will be updated no later than Monday.

Sun Dec 1 201317:14John Carlson goes for 61 yards in Week 13
John Carlson caught four balls for 61 yards in the Vikings' Week 13 win over the Bears.
Carlson is the safety valve in Minnesota's passing attack, at least for the time being. Kyle Rudolph (foot) is tentatively expected to resume practicing next week. If Rudolph plays against Baltimore, Carlson would have zero fantasy value.

Sun Nov 24 201318:26Carlson catches three passes in tie with Pack
John Carlson caught three passes for 36 yards in Week 12 versus Green Bay.
Carlson was targeted five times, as the Vikings worked in all three of their tight ends. Chase Ford and Rhett Ellison combined for 46 yards on three grabs. Carlson is the guy to own in this committee approach, but he's nothing more than a TE2 in Kyle Rudolph's (foot) absence. The Bears are up next.

Mon Nov 18 201318:51John Carlson hangs 69 yards on Seahawks
Vikings TE John Carlson caught five balls for 69 yards in Minnesota's Week 11 loss to Seattle.
He saw seven targets, three of which came via Matt Cassel in garbage time. Carlson's big play, complete from Cassel, was a 30-yard gain down the left seam in the fourth quarter. In the absence of Kyle Rudolph (foot), Carlson has now strung together back-to-back productive efforts entering a Week 12 date with a Green Bay defense allowing the 11th most fantasy points to tight ends. We'd like Carlson as a TE1 streamer if the Vikings didn't have so much quarterback uncertainty.

Fri Nov 8 201300:37John Carlson has 7/98/1 night vs. Redskins
Starting in the absence of Kyle Rudolph, John Carlson caught seven passes for 98 yards and a touchdown in Minnesota's Week 10 win over the Redskins.
Carlson's seven targets were a team high, while the touchdown was his first since 2010. The score was a wide-open affair on play action. It's an effort Carlson is unlikely to repeat going forward, but makes him worth a flier as a TE2 if you're absolutely desperate for help at the position.

Thu Aug 8 201310:47John Carlson on 'last' chance with Vikings?
The St. Paul Pioneer Press believes John Carlson is on his "last" chance with the Vikings.
It's telling, since this is only Carlson's second chance with the Vikings after he signed a five-year, $25 million contract in March 2012. "Every football player knows if you don't perform or are continually injured, ultimately you're not going to be playing anymore," Carlson admitted this week. Carlson has caught just 39 passes in 29 games since the end of the 2009 season. He's well off the fantasy radar behind Kyle Rudolph.

Wed Jun 19 201309:29John Carlson says 2012 was a 'debacle'
Vikings TE John Carlson admitted that his 2012 season was a "debacle."
Carlson signed a five-year, $25 million last offseason. He sustained a knee injury in camp and never got going, catching just eight balls in 14 games. Now he's accepted a pay cut and is healthy. Carlson will enter camp as the clear No. 2 tight end behind Kyle Rudolph.

Tue Mar 12 201310:44John Carlson agrees to restructure deal
John Carlson has agreed to a restructured contract.
The Vikings foolishly gave Carlson a five-year, $25 million a year ago even though they had Kyle Rudolph ready to go. He ended up catching eight passes in 14 games. Due to count $4 million against the cap in 2013, Carlson was a lock for a massive paycut.

Fri Jan 11 201310:55John Carlson's roster spot in jeopardy?
The Vikings would take a $4 million cap hit to cut John Carlson before the start of the league year, but would not owe him any more guaranteed money.
If Carlson is still on the roster by the first day of the league year, he will collect $1.2 million in guarantees. One of last year's worst free agent signings, Carlson was paid $7.9 million in 2012 to post an 8/43/0 stat line across 14 games. He has no role in the Vikings offense.

Wed Nov 7 201214:52John Carlson returns to Vikings practice
John Carlson (concussion) has resumed practicing.
He'll be good to go for Week 10 after missing two games. With just three catches on the year, Carlson couldn't be further from fantasy relevance in the Vikings' 30th ranked passing offense.

Mon Nov 5 201213:50John Carlson ready to resume practicing
John Carlson (concussion) expects to resume practicing Wednesday.
Carlson has yet to officially gaine clearance, but he should be good to go for Week 10. With just three catches in seven games, however, he couldn't be further from fantasy relevance in the Vikings' woeful passing "attack."

Fri Nov 2 201217:21John Carlson not suiting up for Week 9
John Carlson (concussion) has been officially ruled out for Week 9.
It will be Carlson's second straight absence. Signed to a five-year, $25 million deal in March, Carlson has three catches in seven games. He's week-to-week.

Wed Oct 31 201212:55John Carlson still not cleared
Vikings TE John Carlson (concussion) still has not been medically cleared.
It's not a surprise considering Carlson's long history of concussions. He's merely "week to week."

Thu Oct 25 201219:07Vikings declare Week 8 inactives
Vikings declared TE John Carlson, WR Jarius Wright, CB Brandon Burton, S Mistral Raymond, LB Audie Cole, and OL Mark Asper inactive for Thursday night's game against the Bucs.
Carlson suffered a concussion on Sunday, but he has been an utter disappointment this season anyway. The tight end sports a horrendous three catches for eight yards stat line. Rhett Ellison will back-up Kyle Rudolph. Raymond has been dealing with an ankle injury. McLeod Bethel-Thompson is the third quarterback.

Wed Oct 24 201213:23John Carlson ruled out for Week 8
Vikings TE John Carlson (concussion) has been ruled out for Thursday Night Football.
The owner of a 3/8/0 line behind Kyle Rudolph, Carlson is week-to-week. Take this as an opportunity to drop him if you forgot he was on your roster in a deeper league.

Tue Oct 23 201214:26Vikes TE Carlson's 2013 salary not guaranteed
Vikings TE John Carlson's $1.2 million 2013 base salary is reportedly guaranteed for injury only unless he's on the roster as of the first day of the next league year.
Coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday there is no reason to believe Carlson's fourth career concussion will put his career in jeopardy. The Vikes can, however, cut Carlson for performance reasons after he collects a whopping $7.9 million in guarantees this season. Carlson's contract is the one blemish on GM Rick Spielman's otherwise strong Executive of the Year candidacy. Fourth-rounder Rhett Ellison's emergence could make Carlson expendable going forward.

Mon Oct 22 201213:38John Carlson likely out for Week 8
Vikings TE John Carlson (head) is not expected to play Thursday night against Tampa.
Coach Leslie Frazier confirmed Carlson is experiencing concussion-like symptoms and "probably won't play" as he goes through NFL protocol testing. Carlson has been a non-factor this season, and injury prone since the Vikings signed him to a five-year, $25M deal in March. He'll be replaced by Rhett Ellison.

Sun Oct 21 201216:09Vikes TE Carlson sent for concussion tests
Vikings TE John Carlson was sent to the locker room for concussion tests late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game versus the Cowboys.
Carlson was held without a catch on a day when Christian Ponder managed just 58 passing yards. The Vikings have gotten more out of fourth-round rookie H-back Rhett Ellison than their $25 million second tight end this season.

Sun Oct 7 201220:41Carlson catches just one pass in victory
John Carlson caught just one pass for two yards in Week 5 against the Titans.
The Vikings had been planning to get Carlson more involved earlier in the season, but it just isn't happening. Fourth-round rookie Rhett Ellison caught two passes for 35 yards and may be passing Carlson on the depth chart. Neither player is a fantasy option.
