Tue Sep 24 201309:04Nate Burleson breaks his arm in car accident
Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places during an early Tuesday morning car accident.
Burleson was driving home after watching Monday Night Football with teammates when he was in a single-car wreck. Other than the arm, he's doing fine and police confirmed alcohol was not involved. We don't have a timetable yet, but fractured bones typically take 4-6 weeks to heal. Burleson is undergoing surgery Tuesday, suggesting the recovery period could be even longer. It's a huge blow to the Lions as their veteran ranked 21st in the NFL in receiving yards (239) and was tied for 11th in catches (19). Ryan Broyles was on a strict snap count in Week 3 thanks to his knee issues, but he'll be given every opportunity to run with the slot job now. If Broyles' knees hold up, he'll be capable of WR3 production in PPR formats.

Sun Sep 22 201319:28Nate Burleson rips up the Redskins secondary
Nate Burleson caught six passes for 116 yards in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Redskins.
Don't expect Burleson to put up this many yards ever again. He got lost behind the Redskins' pitiful secondary for a 47-yard gain and had no issues turning short passes into solid gains due to Washington's poor tackling. Keep Burleson on your bench next week against the Bears.

Sun Sep 15 201320:07Nate Burleson catches 7 balls in Week 2
Nate Burleson caught seven passes for 45 yards in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Cardinals.
He was targeted eight times, seeing a bump in snaps and Matthew Stafford attention with Patrick Edwards (ankle) shelved for all but the opening play. Burleson is what he is, a 32-year-old possession receiver you might be able to justify as a WR3 during bye-week crunches. He just has zero upside.

Tue Sep 10 201309:16Nate Burleson 'quietly' had good camp
Coach Jim Schwartz said Nate Burleson "sort of quietly had a good training camp."
Burleson barely played in exhibition games, but carried momentum from practice into Week 1 when he caught six passes for 78 yards. With Ryan Broyles (knee) not ready yet, the 32-year-old veteran has the slot job all to himself. That's a significant role in the game's most pass-happy offense. Before breaking his leg last year, Burleson was on pace for 72 catches.

Thu Aug 22 201321:56Nate Burleson catches 6-yard pass
Lions WR Nate Burleson caught one pass for six yards in Thursday night's third preseason game against New England.
It's Burleson's lone catch of the preseason. He primarily played Z receiver against the Patriots, with Tony Scheffler in the slot and Patrick Edwards filling in for Calvin Johnson (knee bruise). Burleson is capable of catching passes thrown to him when schemed or left open, but he can't separate and is declining at age 32. He's not on the standard-league fantasy radar.

Fri Aug 16 201311:19Nate Burleson 'struggling to gain separation'
According to MLive.com, Nate Burleson is "struggling to gain separation" this preseason.
We're aware this isn't "news," per se - Burleson has been struggling to gain separation much of the past few seasons - but it's alarming for it to stand out in the preseason. Burleson doesn't have a catch through two exhibition games, and dropped two passes against the Browns Thursday. With Ryan Broyles' stock rocketing up, Burleson is barely even a WR5 for fantasy purposes.

Thu Aug 8 201312:14Burleson not thinking about retirement
Nate Burleson says he isn't thinking about retirement.
"I have two years left on my contract and feeling pretty good," Burleson said. "I think for me, I'm going to basically decide whenever I can't get open versus a DB, I know that's when it's time for me to sit my butt down." Entering his age-32 season, Burleson has lost multiple steps, but still has a sure pair of hands. He'll be a plug-and-play WR5 in the Lions' prolific offense.

Mon Jul 1 201310:50Nate Burleson ready to roll for training camp
Nate Burleson (leg) is expected to practice without restriction in training camp.
"He still probably isn't 100-percent, but a lot of guys aren't 100-percent right now," coach Jim Schwartz said. "But he's able to do able to do what he can out there and it's a good time of year." Burleson is a proven, reliable set of hands in an offense of relatively few of them, but his WR4/5 value should be relatively fleeting. Burleson will be the Lions' clear-cut No. 3 receiver once Ryan Broyles (ACL) is back to full health.

Wed May 22 201314:49Nate Burleson fully participating in OTAs
Nate Burleson (leg) has been a full participant in Lions OTAs.
"I wasn't supposed to; I was told not to (practice)," Burleson said. "But it's like I always told you guys, if I can walk I can run, and if I can run I can play. ... It's as healed up as it's going to get." Burleson will likely take it easy before training camp, but his leg is no longer an issue. Burleson will fill-in as the Lions' No. 2 receiver until Ryan Broyles (torn ACL) is ready to return.

Tue May 7 201308:46No. 2 job is Nate Burleson's to lose
The Lions' official website considers the No. 2 wideout job Nate Burleson's to lose.
Burleson won't be facing stiff competition. Sixth-rounder Corey Fuller is raw, Ryan Broyles is a slot receiver that's coming off an ACL tear, and Mike Thomas/Brian Robiskie/Kris Durham are all journeymen at best. Burleson averaged 4.5 catches for 40.0 yards per game last season, but will turn 32 in August and is coming off a broken leg. There won't be much upside here.

Mon Apr 22 201309:05Nate Burleson (broken leg) 'healed up'
Nate Burleson (broken leg) says he's "healed up," and "three months ahead of schedule."
"I just got news from my doctors that the bone is good," Burleson said Monday. "I'm running and jumping three months ahead of schedule." Going on 32, Burleson's roster spot should be safe after he restructured his contract in February. Currently No. 2 on the depth chart, he'll be a late-round option in PPR leagues.

Wed Feb 27 201314:38Burleson's salary dips to $2 million
Nate Burleson's restructured contract drops his 2013 base salary from $4.5 million to $2 million.
His new cap number is $4.031 million. Burleson would have surely had to take a bigger cut were it not for the sorry state of the Lions' receiver corps. As it is, Ryan Broyles' injury and the firing of Titus Young ensure he'll be a big part of the offense in 2013.

Thu Feb 21 201315:54Lions and Burleson agree to restructured deal
Nate Burleson has agreed to restructure his contract, which will likely keep him with the Lions in 2013.
Details are unknown, but Burleson was scheduled to reel in a $4.5 million base salary in 2013, a year after breaking his leg. Burleson, 31, is one of the leaders for Detroit, so it makes sense to keep him around on a young team looking for direction. He's said he expects to be ready for the offseason program.

Tue Feb 5 201308:23Nate Burleson says he'll be ready for OTAs
Nate Burleson (leg) expects to be ready for the beginning of the offseason program.
Monday's release of problem child Titus Young puts even more emphasis on Burleson's health. The 31-year-old veteran carries a $6.5 million cap number for 2013, but the Lions are desperate for wideout help behind Calvin Johnson. Ryan Broyles is rehabbing another torn ACL and the only other receivers on the roster are borderline NFL talents Mike Thomas, Devin Thomas, Patrick Edwards and Brian Robiskie. Burleson will have some leverage if/when the Lions ask him to restructure his deal.

Thu Jan 17 201309:16Mayhew is watching Burleson's rehab closely
Lions GM Martin Mayhew said he is monitoring Nate Burleson's rehab from a broken leg closely.
The Lions are up against the salary cap once again this season and Burleson's current cap number is $6.5 million. He said he's willing to renegotiate and the Lions want one of their team leaders back, but he's going to have to be healthy. The depth chart behind Calvin Johnson is a mess with Ryan Broyles and Burleson coming off serious injuries and Titus Young a wild card.

Mon Dec 31 201215:37Burleson willing to restructure contract?
Nate Burleson (broken leg) hinted that he would be willing to consider restructuring his contract to remain with the Lions in 2013.
"Without saying too much, I'm willing to work it out," said Burleson, "because I love this team and I feel this is my best chance to win a Super Bowl before I shut it down in a few more years." Burleson believes the feeling is mutual in the Lions front office. The 31-year-old expects to be fully healthy by February, allowing him to take part in all of the team's offseason workouts.

Wed Dec 5 201215:10Nate Burleson (broken leg) sheds crutches
Nate Burleson (broken leg, injured reserve) has shed his crutches, and believes he should be ready for football activities by February.
Signed for $4.5 million next season, Burleson's odds of returning to Detroit in 2013 were initially very long, but have improved dramatically with Titus Young pouting his way out of town and Ryan Broyles tearing his ACL. Burleson will still likely have to take a pay-cut to remain a Lion, however. He won't be on the fantasy radar.

Thu Nov 8 201207:59Nate Burleson knows he could get cut
Nate Burleson (IR, leg) admitted that he could be released next season.
Burleson is staring at eight months of rehab after breaking his left in Week 7. When he returns, he'll be 32 and owed $4.5 million in base salary. As the Lions are finding out now, their offense runs smoother with Titus Young opposite Calvin Johnson and Ryan Broyles in the slot. "With them balling out completely, it could leave me the odd man out," Burleson said.

Wed Oct 24 201215:37Nate Burleson officially placed on I.R.
Lions placed WR Nate Burleson on injured reserve with a broken leg, ending his season.
Burleson will undergo surgery, and will be sidelined eight months. That has him iffy for OTAs and next June's minicamp, though he should be 100 percent for training camp. Although Burleson has been a consistent producer since arriving in Detroit in 2010, he's lost a good deal of his burst, and adds little after the catch. Signed through 2014, it's doubtful the Lions have interesting in paying all, if any, of his $4.5 million 2013 salary.
