Joel Hanrahan survived a shaky ninth inning Saturday against the Cubs for his 35th save of the season.
Hanrahan entered the ninth inning with a 7-4 lead before giving up a double and a walk. He got Anthony Rizzo to fly out for the first out, but then gave up an RBI single to Alfonso Soriano to cut the lead to 7-5. Starlin Castro flew out to right center for the second out, but then Hanrahan walked back-to-back batters to force in a run. However, he managed to escape by striking out Dave Sappelt with the bases loaded to end it. It wasn't pretty, but the Pirates' seven-game losing streak is over.

Joel Hanrahan, in his first action since April 15th, recorded his second save of the season in the Pirates win over the Cardinals on Saturday.
Hanrahan had been sidelined while dealing with hamstring issues and looked very shaky in his first outing back. He walked two, putting the winning run at the plate, before working his way out of trouble with a pair of strikeouts. Now that he's shaken off the rust, he should be fine moving forward.

Joel Hanrahan is open to the idea of signing a multi-year contract extension with the Pirates.
Hanrahan avoided arbitration last offseason by signing a $1.4 million deal, but he'll be due for a raise after posting a 1.83 ERA and 61/16 K/BB ratio in 68 2/3 innings this season while converting 40 of 44 save chances. "Yeah, of course I'd listen to it," said Hanrahan. "It's every player's goal to get a multiyear contract. If they approach me with it, I'll listen to it and take it in. It's a situation where we'll see what happens." The Pirates say that an extension for Hanrahan is not a priority, but they're not ruling out the possibility.
