Wed Apr 18 2012 | 21:56 | Murphy has big night in place of Infante |
Filling in for Omar Infante (groin), Donnie Murphy doubled, homered and drove in three runs in Wednesday's win over the Cubs. |
He tagged Matt Garza for a two-run shot in the third. The hits were the 29-year-old journeyman's first of the season. Murphy produced just seven extra-base hits in 92 at-bats a season ago. Even if Infante's injury lingers, Murphy isn't an option in NL-only leagues. |

Mon May 2 2011 | 12:08 | Marlins place Donnie Murphy on DL |
Marlins placed INF Donnie Murphy on the 15-day disabled list with right wrist inflammation. |
The move was made retroactive to April 30. Murphy drew regular starts at third base for the Marlins in the early going, but he was hit on the wrist by a pitch recently and hasn't been producing offensively since. The time off should do him some good. Greg Dobbs and Wes Helms will continue to share time at the hot corner. |

Sat Apr 30 2011 | 11:25 | Marlins to go with 'matchups' at 3B |
Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez will employ his starting third baseman based on "matchups" for that particular day. |
Donnie Murphy entered the season as the starter at the hot corner, but then he missed time after being hit on the hand by a pitch and hasn't swung the bat well since. "Murphy was doing a good job, but then he got hit by a pitch on the wrist, swinging the bat," Rodriguez said. "I know if he would have been 100 percent, he would be doing a great job there, holding himself there. But with all the injuries and all the situations he's been going through, it's been tough. I think we're asking way too much from him.'' Wes Helms, Greg Dobbs and Emilio Bonifacio will also see time at third. It's a situation to avoid in fantasy. |

Wed Apr 20 2011 | 20:06 | Donnie Murphy still not at full strength |
Though he's still not yet at full strength, Donnie Murphy (knee) is available off the bench for the Marlins. |
He appeared as a defensive replacement Tuesday and said he's willing to fill in whenever he can until he's back to 100 percent. "It's just dealing with the inflammation and the bruising," Murphy said. "I'm fine... I told Edwin whatever he wants me to do, I can do it. We're on the same page. There's no worries on my part or their part. If he needs me, I'm ready." Greg Dobbs, Emilio Bonifacio and Wes Helms have all seen time at third base while Murphy has been out. |

"There is inflammation, it's not broken," Murphy said. Murphy fouled a ball off the knee on Friday. He's listed as day to day but likely won't start Tuesday against the Pirates. Emilio Bonifacio or Wes Helms will likely take his place against left-hander Paul Maholm. |

The third baseman tried to hit off a tee Sunday, but "every swing it just hurt." Wes Helms and Emilio Bonifacio will play third while Murphy is out. |

Donnie Murphy (wrist) is not in Sunday's lineup. |
Murphy had to exit Saturday's game after getting hit on the right wrist with a pitch. It's the same wrist he had surgically-repaired last September, but X-rays came back clean and he's only expected to sit out a day or two. Emilio Bonifacio will fill in at the hot corner. |

Sun Mar 27 2011 | 09:28 | Murphy has edge over Bonifacio |
Donnie Murphy appears to have the edge over Emilio Bonifacio for the Marlins' starting job at third base. |
Murphy was terrific in his brief time off the bench for the Marlins last year before tearing nine ligaments in his wrist. He's healthy now, though, and is worthy of a roster spot in NL-only leagues. Bonifacio still figures to see plenty of playing time as a super utility player. |

Sat Mar 26 2011 | 09:49 | Marlins could make 3B decision by Monday |
Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said he could decide on Donnie Murphy or Emilio Bonifacio as his starting third baseman by Monday. |
Bonifacio has stolen five bases without being caught but has an ugly .246/.270/.295 batting line this spring. Murphy hasn't been a whole lot better, hitting .231/.348/.410 with one home run. Neither option is particularly exciting, but we'd like to see Murphy get a shot at the hot corner, with Bonifacio being used in his familiar utility role. |

Tue Mar 1 2011 | 16:13 | Marlins' Murphy makes spring debut |
Donnie Murphy fanned all three times he was up Tuesday in his spring debut. |
Not the best of debuts, but Murphy is ahead of schedule in his recovery from right wrist surgery and he's expected to have a spot on Florida's bench if he can avoid any setbacks. |
Thu Feb 24 2011 | 15:08 | Murphy (wrist) faces live pitching |
Donnie Murphy took live batting practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing season-ending surgery on his right wrist last September. |
"I'm pretty happy with the way things are going, and I think it's a good sign," said Murphy, who is in camp as a non-roster invitee. The 27-year-old batted .318 with three home runs and 16 RBI over 44 at-bats with the Marlins last season and has a chance to stick around as a utility player. He is expected to get back on the field sometime during the first week of the Grapefruit League schedule. |
