Mon Jun 20 201122:48Giambi hits three-run bomb in win
Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer in Colorado's 8-7 win over the Indians on Monday.
Giambi's seventh home run was his first in 11 games. Giambi's numbers make him look like a decent option in deeper NL-only leagues, but it's important to remember that 10 of his 18 RBI have come in two games. Keep him on the waiver wire.

Wed May 25 201109:08Giambi leaves with swelling in elbow
Jason Giambi left the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks with "significant swelling" above his right elbow.
Giambi was hit in the elbow by Joe Saunders after homering in his previous at-bat. It's not believed to be a major concern, so consider him day-to-day right now.

Thu May 19 201122:10Giambi explodes for three homers, seven RBI
Jason Giambi turned back the clock Thursday, belting three home runs and driving in seven in a win over the Phillies.
Where did that come from? Giambi entered the game with just three hits in 26 at-bats this season, and the last hit came all the way back on April 10, so this has to go down as one of the most unexpected offensive explosions in recent memory. The 40-year-old is still hitting just .194 on the season after tonight's outburst.

Mon May 2 201110:50Giambi not hitting well in early going
Jason Giambi has tallied just three hits in 22 plate appearances this season for the Rockies.
Giambi is sporting a .167/.318/.333 batting line, one home run and four RBI. He's started only five games at first base and carries no value in NL-only leagues.

Sat Apr 9 201100:25Giambi hits three-run homer
Jason Giambi went 2-for-3 and hit a three-run homer for the Rockies on Friday.
Giambi was making his first start of the season in place of Todd Helton. While he took advantage of the opportunity tonight, he shouldn't get used to it, as Helton won't sit against righties very often and Ty Wigginton figures to play when Helton rests versus lefties.

Fri Jan 21 201101:09Details emerge about Jason Giambi's contract
The Denver Post has obtained further details about Jason Giambi's new minor league contract with the Rockies.
Giambi can request his release if he's not on the 25-man roster on either March 31 or June 1, and would still earn $250,000 if he's cut in spring training. There's also a $150,000 buyout option and a mutual option for $1 million in 2012. Todd Helton is on the downside of his career, but is expected to be healthy to start the season. That leaves Giambi as a low cost, low risk pinch-hitter for the Rockies, and a low cost, needless risk in fantasy baseball.

Mon Jan 17 201114:59Giambi can make $1M on minors contract
Jason Giambi will earn a salary of $1 million if he makes the Rockies' major league roster and remains on it all season.
Giambi inked a "minor league contract" with the Rox on Monday that does not guarantee the same salary if the 40-year-old spends time in the minor leagues. He should be able to find a spot on Colorado's Opening Day bench, but he can't really play defense anymore and could be sent to the farm if the Rockies want to get more flexible in the middle of the season.

Mon Jan 17 201114:40Rox re-sign Giambi to minor league contract
Rockies signed 1B Jason Giambi to a minor league contract.
An easy decision for the Rox, no doubt. Giambi is not the most versatile bench player, but he still has a somewhat dangerous bat and he seems to be a nice presence in the clubhouse. The 40-year-old will probably serve only as a late-innings pinch-hitter for Colorado this season.

Thu Dec 9 201021:02Report: Rays interested in Jason Giambi
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rays have some interest in Jason Giambi.
The Rays brought back Dan Johnson, but they could sign Giambi to be a DH and stick Johnson at first base. It's hard to imagine the Rays would have both as part of their starting lineup, but they are in full-blown cost-cutting mode, so it could be possible. Giambi hit .244/.378/.398 with six homers in 176 at-bats with the Rockies in 2010.

Jason Giambi (biceps) has officially been shut down for the season.
Giambi was told that he could risk tearing the his biceps tendon if he even swings the bat, so he won't take any chances. For what it's worth, Giambi said there's "no chance" that he's retiring. The veteran slugger turns 40 in January.

Jason Giambi may be done for the rest of the season due to a sore left bicep tendon.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy doesn't "like his chances" of him getting another at-bat this year. Giambi, who turns 40 in January, is batting .244/.378/.398 with six homers, 35 RBI and a 776 OPS over 176 at-bats this season.

Sun Sep 12 201019:02Giambi hits walk-off homer to beat Arizona
Jason Giambi hit a walk-off two-run homer off Diamondbacks' reliever Sam Demel on Sunday.
The Rockies were down 2-0 until a two-out, two-run double from Ryan Spilborghs in the seventh inning. In the ninth Kelly Johnson botched a ball that allowed Jonathan Herrera to reach base, and Giambi made the Diamondbacks pay with a two-out homer. The Rockies' win, coupled with the Giants beating the Padres, leaves the Rockies just 1 1/2 games behind the Giants-Padres tie atop the NL West.
Thu Jul 8 201017:34Giambi singles four times in victory
Jason Giambi singled four times and drove in two runs Thursday versus the Cardinals.
If you're thinking Giambi probably doesn't single four times in a game very often, you're more certainly correct. This is just the third time it's ever happened, and both of the previous occasions came when he was originally with the A's. He also did it on May 7, 1996 and on July 5, 1999.
Sun Jun 6 201019:52Giambi suffering from hamstring tightness
Jason Giambi (hamstring) said he should be healthy in a few days and he will pinch-hit until then.
He pinch-hit in Sunday's game. A player of Giambi's age and size will have to battle through injuries like this from time to time. His fantasy value is almost non-existent, either way.

Jason Giambi homered and drove in four runs in the Rockies' 11-7 win over the Royals on Sunday.

Tue May 11 201000:49Rockies' Giambi knocks in three
Jason Giambi had three hits and three RBI in the lss to the Phillies on Monday.
Giambi was great off the bench for the Rockies at the end of last year, but he was 2-for-22 with one RBI going into tonight. He was also 0-for-7 as a pinch-hitter. Tonight's effort figures to buy him a few more weeks to get going.
