Thu Dec 13 201212:24Twins, Correia finalize two-year, $10M pact
Twins signed RHP Kevin Correia to a two-year, $10 million contract.
The deal was agreed to on Monday then made official on Thursday after the 32-year-old right-hander passed his physical. Correia doesn't strike anybody out and owns a pedestrian 4.54 career ERA, but he's an upgrade for the weak Minnesota starting rotation. And he could carry decent value in deeper fantasy leagues because he'll be making half his starts at the cavernous Target Field.

Mon Dec 10 201222:34Twins near two-year deal with Kevin Correia
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Twins are close to a two-year deal with right-hander Kevin Correia.
The 32-year-old right-hander posted an uninspiring 4.21 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 171 innings this past summer for the Pirates but should get a nice boost in fantasy value in making the move to the pitcher-friendly confines of Target Field. Correia also drew free agent interest this offseason from the Rockies, Orioles, Brewers, Royals and at least one team from Japan.

Thu Dec 6 201220:35Kevin Correia has multiple multi-year offers
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman hears that Kevin Correia is considering multiple multi-year offers.
One of the offers is from Japan. Heyman doesn't list any teams from the states whose offers Correia is mulling, but the right-hander has been linked previously to the Rockies, Orioles and Royals. Correia posted a 4.21 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 171 innings this past season for the Pirates.

Tue Dec 4 201217:55O's interested in right-hander Kevin Correia
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have interest in free agent Kevin Correia.
Correia has also been drawing interest recently from the Rockies. The 32-year-old right-hander registered a pedestrian 4.21 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 89/46 K/BB ratio in 171 innings this past season for the Pirates. He should be rather inexpensive on a one-year contract.

Sun Nov 4 201220:24Pirates confirm Correia won't be brought back
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review confirms the Pirates are not expected to re-sign Kevin Correia.
Correia was relegated to the bullpen in the second half of last season and there's been no indication that he'll be brought back. The 32-year-old posted a 12-11 record, 4.21 ERA and 89/46 K/BB ratio in 171 total innings (28 starts) and will test the free agent market. Beat writer Rob Biertempfel believes Kyle McPherson is a candidate to replace Correia on the Pirates' 25-man roster.

Kevin Correia was impressive in Tuesday's victory over the Braves, surrendering just one run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Correia punched out five and walked one in the game. The only damage against him came in the fourth inning where Juan Francisco delivered an RBI double. He certainly finished the season strong, posting five quality starts in his final six outings, finishing with a 12-11 record, 4.21 ERA and 89/46 K/BB ratio in 171 innings.

Sat Sep 22 201222:00Correia strikes out nine in loss to Astros
Kevin Correia matched his career-high with nine strikeouts, while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk over six-plus innings in a loss to the Astros.
He had allowed just an RBI single to Brett Wallace in the first inning, and took the mound in the seventh with the score tied at 1-1. After a leadoff single, Clint Barmes booted what would've been a double play ground out, and Jason Castro followed with a three-run homer. He'll head into Thursday's start against the Mets in New York with an 11-10 record, 4.11 ERA and 82/44 K/BB ratio in 160 innings of work.

Tue Sep 18 201208:31Correia blanks Cubs in rain-soaked win
Kevin Correia tossed seven shutout innings in a 3-0 win over the Cubs on Monday night.
After a three-and-a-half hour rain delay, Correia held the Cubs to just two hits (both) singles while striking out six and walking just one. It was his longest start since May 10. He'll carry a 4.09 ERA into a favorable matchup against the Astros this weekend.

Tue Sep 11 201222:00Correia has quality outing in loss to Reds
Kevin Correia turned in a quality start in Tuesday's loss to the Reds, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings.
He walked three and struck out two. Brandon Phillips was responsible for most of the damage, blasting a solo homer in the first inning, lining an RBI double in the second and coming around to score on a wild pitch. With a 10-9 record and 4.29 ERA, Correia is having a decent 2012 campaign.

Wed Sep 5 201222:03Kevin Correia fares well
Kevin Correia looked good Wednesday against the feeble Astros' lineup, tossing six innings of one-run ball in the 6-3 victory.
Correia allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out one. The veteran right-hander has been in and out of the rotation over the last month and was filling in this time for the injured Jeff Karstens (hip). It's possible he could take Karstens' turn again next week in Cincinnati.

Tue Aug 21 201201:28Kevin Correia takes loss in spot start
Kevin Correia yielded three runs -- two earned -- and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Padres.
If the Pirates fail to make the postseason by a game this year, one wonders if they'll think back to this one with regret. There had to be better options available than starting Correia a day after he threw two innings in relief. Then again, the Pirates scored just one run tonight, so maybe it didn't matter a whole lot.

Mon Aug 20 201218:20Correia starting Monday night against Padres
Kevin Correia will start Monday night against the Padres.
Correia will start despite throwing 24 pitches over two innings of relief in Sunday's 19-inning marathon against the Cardinals. He'll become the first Pirate since Pascual Perez in 1981 to pitch in relief one day and start the next day.

Sun Aug 19 201211:20Kevin Correia booted from rotation again
Kevin Correia has been demoted to the bullpen.
It's the second time in the last month that he's been removed from the rotation, as James McDonald solidified his spot with a terrific start Friday. Correia requested a trade following his first demotion, and he probably still isn't happy about moving into a long relief role.

Tue Aug 14 201223:18Correia takes loss Tuesday against Dodgers
Kevin Correia was knocked around for six runs (five earned) over six innings Tuesday night against the Dodgers.
Correia gave up seven hits while walking one and striking out three. Hardly the best way to make a case to keep a rotation spot over James McDonald. On the bright side, he'll have a decent chance to rebound next week against the Padres in PETCO.

Wed Aug 8 201222:55Kevin Correia goes six innings in win
Kevin Correia bent but didn't break in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks in six innings.
Correia struck out five in improving to 9-5. The win was his sixth in seventh outings, though he's been quality just four times in that span. He'll bring a 4.49 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 57/34 K/BB ratio into his Monday tilt with the Dodgers at home.

Sat Aug 4 201216:23Correia to make spot start on Wednesday
Kevin Correia will make a spot start for the Pirates when they battle the Diamondbacks at home on Wednesday.
Corria was shifted to the bullpen with the recent acquisition of Wandy Rodriguez and has since requested a trade from the Pirates. They could be giving him this start to showcase him for a potential swap, or it could be simply to give the rest of their starters an extra day of rest.

Fri Jul 27 201209:55Pirates will try to trade Kevin Correia
Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that the Pirates "likely will try to trade" Kevin Correia before the deadline.
If they're able to get anything decent for him, it would make sense. Correia was just demoted to the bullpen following the acquisition of Wandy Rodriguez, and he'll be a free agent after the season. On the other hand, Erik Bedard is on pace to make 30 starts for the first time since 2006, so keeping Correia around as insurance might not be a bad idea, either.

Thu Jul 26 201217:08Kevin Correia moved to bullpen
The Pirates have moved Kevin Correia to the bullpen.
The Pirates acquired Wandy Rodriguez from the disabled list this week and Jeff Karstens has pitched brilliantly since returning from the disabled list, so Correia is the odd man out. The 31-year-old right-hander has a 4.24 ERA and 50/30 K/BB ratio over 108 1/3 innings and can be safely dropped outside of deeper NL-only formats.
