Fri Aug 19 201118:55Vernon Wells in Friday's lineup
Vernon Wells is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.
Multiple reports suggested that Wells would be placed on the disabled list before Friday's game, clearing a spot for Mike Trout on the active roster, but that's not the case. Wells will start in left field Friday night while Trout plays right field and Torii Hunter serves as the designated hitter. It will be interesting to see how Mike Scioscia shuffles the pieces in his lineup moving forward, but it sounds like a big headache for fantasy owners.

Fri Aug 19 201108:18Vernon Wells getting some time
Vernon Wells could sit out again on Friday after being benched for the finale of Los Angeles' four-game series with the Rangers on Thursday.
Wells entered the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning and struck out in the eighth. "As frustrated as we are, there's nobody in that clubhouse more frustrated than he is," manager Mike Scioscia said. "There's nothing we've been able to uncover. We've talked to Vernon many times. We've incorporated some drills he was used to doing in the past with Toronto. There's really nothing we haven't tried to uncover with Vernon." The Angels should not be surprised Wells is coming nowhere near living up to his absurd salary, but his .200/.231/.365 triple slash is indeed worse than should have been expected when he was acquired from the Blue Jays. Still, the move was bad when Los Angeles made it and is looking even worse now.

Since returning from the disabled list on June 7, Wells had been looked a little more like his old self, hitting 38-for-145 (.262) with 12 dingers and 28 RBI through July 23. But thanks to a 5-for-36 slide without a homer or RBI, Wells' average is down to .214.

Wed Jul 6 201114:44Wells to serve as DH Wednesday vs. Tigers
Vernon Wells will serve as the designated hitter Wednesday against the Tigers.
Wells tweaked his right ankle and suffered a bruised right heel when he hit first base awkwardly on a groundout during the fourth inning Tuesday night. He's still in the lineup, so we wouldn't worry too much about his status moving forward.

Wed Jul 6 201111:04Wells credits new batting stance for success
Vernon Wells credits his recent success at the plate to a slight adjustment in his batting stance.
Wells is batting .269 with eight homers and 17 RBI since he began to stand more upright in the batter's box on June 13. "Being comfortable in the box allows you to think about the most important thing, which is hitting the ball," said Wells. "When you're out of sorts mechanically, you're thinking about that in the box, and all of a sudden the ball is on top of you." While Wells has delivered for fantasy owners lately, he hasn't drawn a walk since June 10.

Vernon Wells stayed hot on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the Angels win over the Tigers.

Sat Jun 25 201119:38Wells homers in win over Dodgers
Vernon Wells slugged a three-run homer in Saturday's win over the Dodgers.
His three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Angels some extra breathing room. Wells is now batting .254 (15-for-59) with four homers and 10 RBI since returning from the disabled list on June 7. While he won't match his production from last season, he still has some value in most mixed leagues.

Vernon Wells went 3-for-4 with his seventh home run in the Angels' 7-3 win in New York on Sunday.

Tue Jun 14 201101:07Vernon Wells has two-homer night against M's
Vernon Wells homered twice in the Angels' 6-3 win over the Mariners on Monday, driving in three runs.
Wells' first multi-homer game in an Angels uniform, and one that ups his average from .189 to .196. A nice night, but the second highest-paid player in baseball this year is still the owner of a pathetic .196/.240/.337 triple-slash through 175 plate appearances. He has to be better if the Angels are going to make a serious run in a tight American League West this season.

Vernon Wells (groin) went 0-for-2 with a walk in his first rehab game for High-A Inland Empire Sunday.
