Fri Jun 3 201119:58Vernon Wells to begin rehab Sunday
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Vernon Wells (groin) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Salt Lake.
Scioscia anticipates that Wells will need "most likely a couple games" during his rehab assignment, so it sounds like we could see him back in a Halos uniform by the end of next week. Howie Kendrick is due back Saturday and will handle left field until Wells is ready.

Sat May 28 201120:35Vernon Wells making nice progress
Vernon Wells (groin) could be ready to return by next Friday.
"I'd like to play on the next homestand (which begins next Friday)," Wells said. "Once I have a few rehab starts, it will be a good indication of where I am with this." Wells has been sidelined since May 10, but should embark on a rehab assignment within the next two or three days, making it quite possible that he'll be ready to return by Friday. Before landing on the disabled list, he was the owner of a .183/.224/.303 slash.

Wed May 25 201120:13Vernon Wells begins light agility drills
Vernon Wells (groin) began light agility drills Wednesday.
"I don't want to say I'm ahead of schedule, but it feels good," Wells said. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said last weekend that he expected Wells to be out "a while" longer, though he wouldn't offer a specific timetable. He had been mainly only exercising in a pool to this point.

Fri May 20 201120:14Vernon Wells could be out a while longer
Angels manager Mike Scioscia anticipates Vernon Wells (groin) being out for a while longer.
"This is going to be a while," Scioscia said. "Hopefully we're not, you know, talking months. But it's certainly not day-to-day." Those are discouraging words from the Halos manager, as we were originally led to believe that the injury wouldn't sideline Wells for that long. So far he's mainly only exercising in a pool to this point, and it appears a rehab assignment is nowhere in sight.

Thu May 5 201102:49Vernon Wells homers in Angels' victory
Vernon Wells hit a two-run homer and Bobby Abreu singled in the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the 13th as the Angels beat the Red Sox 5-3 on Wednesday.
Wells, batting seventh for the first time this year, finished 2-for-6. It was an odd time for him to be dropped further in the order, given that he homered Monday and reached twice in Tuesday's game. The win was the Angels' first in seven games against the Red Sox this season.

Tue May 3 201104:47Wells makes some noise at the plate
Vernon Wells hit his second home run of the season -- a two-run shot -- in the Angels' 9-5 loss to the Red Sox on Monday.
Wells has a big hole to dig out of, but his eighth inning shot had to feel pretty good. He is now hitting .172/.218/.267 with 22 strikeouts. He will continue to battle for hits over the next two games, when he'll face Jon Lester and Josh Beckett.

Sat Apr 30 201111:39Vernon Wells meets with Scioscia again
Vernon Wells met with Angels manager Mike Scioscia before Friday's game for at least the second time behind closed doors in the last month to discuss his struggles at the plate.
"We talked about taking a breather and things like that," Scioscia said. "It's really just communicating, trying to get ideas and concepts going back and forth to see if we can do something to get a player where he's in a comfort zone." Wells has a horrid .181/.223/.257 batting line with one home run in his first 105 at-bats with the Angels. He'll turn it around at some point, but until then, he shouldn't be anywhere near your active lineup.

Thu Apr 28 201103:58Wells trying to swing too hard
Angels manager Mike Scioscia believes Vernon Wells' struggles stem from trying to hit the ball too hard.
"Right now, he's letting out a little too much shaft, trying to swing too hard," Scioscia said. Meanwhile, Wells is trying to keep things in perspective. "The good thing is it's only one month," the outfielder said. "There are six more to go." Six more months? He must be counting the playoffs, though if he keeps hitting below .180, he's no lock for the post-season roster.

Sat Apr 23 201123:46Angels' Wells goes 0-for-4 in loss
Vernon Wells went 0-for-4 against the Red Sox on Saturday, leaving him 1-for-12 in the series.
Just when it looked like Wells had pulled out of his slump, the Red Sox came to town and shut him down again. His average has dropped back to .174.

Wed Apr 20 201123:30Thine eyes have seen the glory: Wells homers
Vernon Wells finally hit his first home run in an Angels uniform on Wednesday evening, taking Darren O'Day deep for a solo shot in the eighth inning of Los Angeles' win over the Rangers.
Naturally, however, it was his only hit of the night. Wells is now hitting .189 through his first 74 at-bats this season, while he has driven in just four runs. There's not yet reason to believe this home run will be the start of a trend for the frustratingly inconsistent veteran outfielder.

Tue Apr 12 201118:57Wells out of Tuesday's lineup
Vernon Wells is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Indians.
Wells is batting just .091 (4-for-44) over his first 10 games this season, so a day off could help. The newly-activated Reggie Willits will start in left field and bat seventh against Fausto Carmona.

Sat Apr 9 201102:30Jays' Wells goes 0-for-4 in loss
Vernon Wells went 0-for-4 in Friday's loss, leaving him 3-for-31 on the season.
Much of Wells' production last year came at Rogers Centre, and there's reason to believe he won't have nearly as much success this year as an Angel. Mixed leaguers shouldn't think of dropping him just yet, but he's really just a fourth or fifth outfielder in shallow leagues.

Mon Mar 28 201121:04Wells (hamstring) out of Monday's lineup
Vernon Wells (hamstring) is out of the starting lineup again Monday.
Wells hasn't played since last Thursday due to tightness in his left hamstring, but he doesn't sounds too concerned. "I have one more day to make sure it feels even better, so I'm going to take it," said Wells. "I plan to start playing every day Thursday." The Angels kick off their season Thursday in Kansas City.

Wed Mar 23 201117:34Wells pulled Wednesday with tight hammy
Vernon Wells was pulled early from Wednesday's game due to tightness in his left hamstring.
At this late juncture in the spring, let's hope the early exit was a precautionary measure. The Angels are likely to provide an update on his status shortly.

Sun Mar 6 201118:35Wells collects first two spring RBI
Vernon Wells went 1-for-2 against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, picking up his first two RBI of the spring in the process.
The Angels took a ton of grief for acquiring Wells last winter, but the fact remains he is coming off of a 31 home run, 88 RBI campaign. However, in 159 career at-bats at Angel Stadium, he has just .226 while posting an anemic .607 OPS.

Tue Jan 25 201120:28Jays sending $5M to Angels in Wells deal
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Angels received $5 million from the Blue Jays in the trade for Vernon Wells.
Heyman writes that the teams "apparently just didn't want to disclose money was in the deal." We can't imagine why this would be the case, but even $5 million doesn't make this deal look much better. The Angels will still owe Wells $81 million over the next four seasons.

Fri Jan 21 201121:12Angels land Vernon Wells in blockbuster deal
Angels acquired OF Vernon Wells from the Blue Jays in exchange for C/1B Mike Napoli and OF Juan Rivera.
The Blue Jays are not sending any money to the Angels in the deal, making the trade an absolutely horrible one for LA. Wells is due a whopping $86 million over the next four seasons, and while he did have a nice bounce-back year for the Blue Jays in 2010, the 32-year-old's production will trend in the wrong direction over the course of his contract. He'll likely play left field for the Halos.
Fri Jan 21 201118:20Report: Vernon Wells involved in Napoli trade
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Vernon Wells is headed to the Angels as part of the Mike Napoli trade.

Mon Nov 8 201015:37Jays hire Don Wakamatsu as bench coach
Blue Jays hired Don Wakamatsu as bench coach.
The former Seattle skipper was interviewed for a couple of managerial vacancies this fall and was thought to be in the running for the Mets' still-open gig, but Wakamatsu will head north and join new manager John Farrell in Toronto. The Jays have also announced that Pat Hentgen will be the club's new bullpen coach and Tory Lovullo will take over as first base coach.
