Thu Mar 13 201412:35Steve Nash officially out for 2013-14 season
The Lakers have officially declared Steve Nash (nerve root irritation) out for the 2013-14 season.
This was all but a formality, but coach Mike D'Antoni officially stuck a fork in the former MVP's season on Thursday. Nash is due $9.7 million on September 1, so it will be interesting to see if the Lakers decide to keep the 40-year-old around or jettison him via the stretch provision. Regardless, any fantasy owners were holding out hope for a return this season can feel free to move on.

Tue Mar 4 201408:57Steve Nash says he wants to return next year
Steve Nash (nerve root irritation) wants to return next season.
The Lakers don't expect Nash to play again this season, but that's not stopping him from looking forward to next year. "I want to come back for sure," he said Monday. The Lakers have until September 1st to decide whether to release the former league MVP via the stretch provision or pay him $9.7 million. Regardless of what the Lakers decide over the summer, fantasy owners can feel free to move on from Nash this season.

Mon Mar 3 201413:51Steve Nash (nerves) may be done for season
Mike D'Antoni does not expect Steve Nash (nerve root irritation) to return this season.
Nash can't shake his persistent injury and with the Lakers headed nowhere this season, D'Antoni would prefer to give minutes to the team's younger guards. It's a reasonable approach which opens the possibility that we've seen Nash in his final NBA game -- he's suggested that he will retire if the Lakers decide to release him via the 'stretch provision' this summer.

Sat Mar 1 201409:31Steve Nash may retire if Lakers release him
Steve Nash said that he would retire if the Lakers release him via the 'stretch provision' this summer.
The provision in the CBA would allow L.A. to 'stretch' Nash's remaining $9.7 million salary over three seasons, limiting the annual impact on their salary cap. It's a financial tool which might be very appealing if Nash isn't able to return to productivity this season, as he's one of three players with guaranteed contracts in 2014-15 (along with Kobe Bryant and Robert Sacre). Nash hasn't played since Feb. 11 but he's still considered day-to-day.

Fri Feb 21 201413:58Steve Nash won't play Friday
Steve Nash (back) will not play in Friday's game against the Celtics.
Nash should be considered day-to-day for the rest of the season. It means no one should be dropping Kendall Marshall, who is freed up for even more minutes now that Steve Blake is in Golden State. Nash, who won't play big minutes even when he does suit up, is waiver-wire fodder.

Wed Feb 19 201420:51Steve Nash won't be at the arena vs. Houston
Steve Nash will not be at Staples Center for Wednesday's game against the Rockets due to an upper respiratory infection.
He was already extremely doubtful for his nerve irritation and should be considered doubtful for Friday's game against the Celtics. It'll be the Kendall Marshall Show against Patrick Beverley on Wednesday with a little bit of Jordan Farmar mixed in.

Tue Feb 18 201418:10Steve Nash (back) doubtful to play vs. HOU
Steve Nash (back) is doubtful to play the Rockets on Wednesday.
He left L.A.'s previous game after aggravating his nerve-root irritation, and it's no surprise to see him back on the sidelines. Jordan Farmar (hamstring) is also doubtful to play Wednesday, leaving solid roles for Steve Blake and Kendall Marshall.

Wed Feb 12 201415:28Steve Nash (nerve irritation) out Thursday
Steve Nash (nerve irritation) will not play against the Thunder on Thursday.
"It's just an irritation and flare up," Nash said. "It's just sore from Sunday still. The whole nerve group has been troublesome." He could not return to action on Tuesday night and he dealt with some issues in each of his last two games. The All-Star break probably won't be enough time for Nash to get all the way back and he'll likely have plenty of more injuries this season. He's more trouble than he's worth in fantasy leagues. Kendall Marshall should be owned until the Lakers get some of their guard back.

Wed Feb 12 201409:45Steve Nash day-to-day w/ sore hamstring
Mike D'Antoni said that Steve Nash (nerve root irritation) will be day-to-day heading into Thursday's game.
Nash's hamstring began to hurt him during Tuesday's game and he didn't play in the second half. It would be very surprising if the Lakers risked a setback by deploying him in the final game before the All-Star break, and fantasy owners should look instead to Kendall Marshall for value in L.A.'s decimated backcourt.

Tue Feb 11 201423:45Steve Nash (nerve irritation) will not return
Steve Nash will not play in the second half of Tuesday's game due to nerve irritation.
This is the same issue which has cost him games all season and it was only a matter of time for the 40-year-old guard. Nash will likely continue to battle through this issue all season and it's really going to make him annoying to own in fantasy leagues. There's little incentive to have to deal with Nash in most leagues. He finished with two points, one board and two assists in 17 minutes.

Tue Feb 11 201414:04Steve Nash (nerves) confirms he'll play Tues.
Steve Nash (nerve irritation) confirmed that he will play vs. the Jazz on Tuesday.
He's expected to start alongside Steve Blake, Wes Johnson, Shawne Williams and Chris Kaman. Nash is averaging 13.5 points and 3.5 assists in the Lakers' past two games, though he didn't make any 3-pointers or get any steals. Blake is a safer fantasy option of the two veteran guards, and Kendall Marshall may also hold value since Nash's minutes will likely be held in the 25-minute range.

Mon Feb 10 201415:17Steve Nash goes through practice on Monday
Steve Nash (nerve irritation) went through Monday's practice without restriction.
This is confirmation of Nash being back in the lineup for Tuesday's game as it stands right now. He did not return to Sunday's game with his nerve irritation to his left leg and there's a good chance he'll have to deal with this issue throughout the season. Kendall Marshall owners might want to hang tight until Nash shows he can stay healthy for a few games. Nash is not worth owning in most formats for his sky-high injury risk.

Mon Feb 10 201410:19Steve Nash (leg) hopeful to play Tuesday
Steve Nash is optimistic that he will play on Tuesday despite recurring pain in his left leg related to nerve irritation.
The setback was caused by a collision during Sunday's game. "I'm pretty hopeful all the stuff I've been doing can overcome the irritation," Nash said afterward. "[The pain] is kind of transient. Hopefully when I wake up [Monday], I'll feel better." Check back soon to see which guards will walk through the Lakers' revolving door for Tuesday's game.

Sun Feb 9 201418:56Steve Nash expects to play on Tuesday night
Steve Nash (leg) is expected to play against the Jazz on Tuesday, according to coach Mike D'Antoni.
Nash added he doesn't have any plans to see a doctor and will just remedy his injury with rest. While Nash may play on Tuesday, he's missed enough games to consider him questionable. Kendall Marshall would be a must-start player with Nash out of the lineup and Jordan Farmar doubtful, so it makes sense to pick him up speculatively in most leagues.

Sun Feb 9 201417:05Steve Nash goes to the locker room vs. Bulls
Steve Nash went to the locker room in the third quarter of Sunday's game.
He looked to have tweaked something and did remain in the game for a handful of possessions. Nash looked great on Friday, but it was only a matter of time before he hurt his 40-year-old frame.

Fri Feb 7 201422:32Nash scores season-high 19 points in return
Steve Nash (back) took advantage of the extremely favorable matchup against the Sixers on Friday, scoring a season-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting (no threes) with four rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes.
Nash tearing up an undisciplined and shallow team like the Sixers was almost a given, so owners need to keep this outing in perspective when assessing Nash as a pickup. It's possible that he puts up decent numbers when he's on the floor, but he's not putting up enough threes, steals and blocks to sustain much of a lull in the other categories. The DNP risk speaks for itself, so owners will want to carefully assess their format and their needs before making an add here.

Fri Feb 7 201411:52Steve Nash will play Friday
Steve Nash will play in Friday's game against the Sixers.
Nash will start at point guard in an ideal matchup against the Sixers' league-worst defense. However, his upside is capped by a lack of true starter's minutes. Nash had seven points and nine assists in 25 minutes on Tuesday.

Tue Feb 4 201423:20Steve Nash hands out nine assists in return
Steve Nash returned from his back injury and played for the first time since November, finishing with seven points, nine assists, a steal and a 3-pointer on 3-of-6 shooting in 25 minutes on Tuesday.
Nash actually looked pretty good, except for giving up 13 assists to Ricky Rubio in the loss. How long he can stay healthy is anyone's guess and the Lakers plan to rest him on Wednesday in Cleveland. If you're desperate for a point guard and assists, and don't mind him taking nights off, feel free to take a flier on Nash, but don't expect any miracles.

Tue Feb 4 201412:26Steve Nash to start vs Wolves Tuesday
Steve Nash (back) will start against the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
Nash will be part of the Lakers' starting lineup on Tuesday night and coach Mike D'Antoni's plan is to have Nash play the first five to eight minutes of the game and then sit for the rest of the half. D'Antoni will reportedly rinse and repeat that plan in the second half, which would theoretically put Nash's total minutes in the 10-16 minute range Tuesday night. Nash is more of a name than a fantasy asset at this point in his career and should only be owned in the deepest of leagues for now. It is currently unclear exactly how this will affect Kendall Marshall's playing time, but this certainly isn't good news for Marshall's owners.
