Fri Apr 26 201321:51Paul Maholm obliterated in loss to Tigers
Paul Maholm's tremendous start to the 2013 season came to a screeching halt on Friday as the Tigers hammered him to the tune of eight runs on 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
Maholm also issued three free passes and struck out three in his shortened evening. The Tigers struck for four runs in the third inning, and tacked on another four-spot in the fourth before chasing Maholm from the game. Even with this abysmal outing, he'll still take a solid 3-2 record, 3.30 ERA and 28/11 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's home tilt against the Nationals.

Paul Maholm allowed one hit over seven innings and struck out seven in the Braves' 2-0 win over the Marlins on Monday.
Eric O'Flaherty and Craig Kimbrel finished the two-hitter. Maholm has yet to allow a run in 12 2/3 innings this season. He's now fanned 72 batters in 81 1/3 innings since last summer's trade to the Braves. That's a big step forward from where he ever was as a Pirate. Just once in his career has he topped even 120 strikeouts in a season.

Wed Apr 3 201322:38Maholm downs the Phillies Wednesday
Paul Maholm went 5 2/3 scoreless innings in the Braves' win over the Phillies on Wednesday.
It was a typical start for the southpaw, who spread six hits and a walk over his 5 2/3 frames. Maholm, 30, had a great season split between the Cubs and Braves in 2012, registering a 3.67 ERA and winning 13 games in the process. He will never be an elite option for anything, but he gives fantasy owners a little of everything.

Thu Mar 28 201316:00Paul Maholm goes four scoreless in win
Paul Maholm pitched four innings and combined with five Braves relievers on a shutout of the Astros on Thursday.
Maholm moved to 4-1 with a 1.53 ERA. He'll get the Phillies in his first regular-season start next week. It's a pretty good matchup for a left-handed pitcher, so he's worth using in all formats.

Mon Mar 11 201316:00Paul Maholm goes five scoreless in win
Paul Maholm blanked the Nationals for five innings in the Braves' 7-2 victory Monday.
Maholm allowed two hits, walked one and struck out five. He entered with a 5.40 ERA and a 4/6 K/BB ratio in 8 1/3 innings. Maholm can't be expected to match his 2012 totals this year, but he's certainly a better bet now than he was as a Pirate or a Cub. He should be a steady, if unspectacular, NL-only pitcher.

Now that the option has been picked up, the Braves project to have Maholm, Tim Hudson, Kris Medlen, Mike Minor, Tommy Hanson, Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado in the mix for rotation spots. The Braves could use their starting pitcher surplus to upgrade in other areas of need, such as center field and third base.

Mon Oct 1 201222:03Maholm holds down former team
Paul Maholm had little trouble with his former team Monday, limiting the Pirates to two runs while striking out eight over seven innings.
Unfortunately, Jeff Locke only gave up one run, and a Starling Marte longball in the fifth proved to be the difference. Maholm has proved to be a nice pick-up for the Braves and finishes the year with a 3.67 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He'll be part of their postseason rotation. With the Braves' loss, the Nats are officially the NL East champs.

Wed Sep 12 201223:30Paul Maholm lit up by Brew Crew
Paul Maholm got roughed up in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers, allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Maholm tossed four scoreless innings before getting lit up in the fifth, where he was charged for all eight of his runs. His biggest mistake was a three-run bomb off the bat of Rickie Weeks. Maholm has now allowed at least seven runs in two of his past three starts, ballooning his ERA from 3.44 on August 31 to 3.90. He'll look to get on track against the Marlins in Miami next week.

Sun Sep 2 201220:53Paul Maholm gives up seven runs to Phillies
Paul Maholm was roughed up for seven runs in two-plus innings by the Phillies on Sunday.
Maholm entered with a 2.45 ERA in five starts for the Braves, but he turned in his worst start of the season today. Given that he wasn't very impressive in his two previous starts either, mixed leaguers would be smart to look for a replacement.

Wed Aug 15 201222:31Paul Maholm turns in another excellent start
Paul Maholm made it 3-for-3 on excellent starts as a Brave in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Padres, allowing just one run on five hits in seven innings.

For the year, he's sporting an excellent 3.39 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. He'll look to keep rolling against the Nationals in Washington on Monday.

Fri Aug 10 201221:46Paul Maholm outstanding again, shuts out Mets
Paul Maholm picked up his first shutout of the 2012 season, limiting the Mets to just three hits over nine stellar innings while striking out five on Friday.
Since June 29, Maholm has very quietly been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball, compiling a 6-1 record, 1.18 ERA and 45/11 K/BB ratio over 61 impressive innings. He appears to be a very quality addition to the Braves rotation as they make a push for the postseason. If he somehow remains unowned in shallow fantasy leagues, now would be the proper time to pounce. He'll look to continue his recent dominance when he takes on Padres at home on Wednesday.

Sat Aug 4 201221:51Maholm strikes out eight in debut for Braves
Paul Maholm pitched well in a losing effort in his Braves debut on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings while racking up eight strikeouts.
It was the first time in his last seven starts that Maholm allowed more than one earned run, but he was still very effective. Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell provided all of the damage, blasting a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a solo blast in the seventh. Maholm will take a 9-7 record, 3.75 ERA and 89/36 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the Mets in New York on Friday.

Tue Jul 31 201221:31Paul Maholm to make Braves' debut Saturday
Paul Maholm will make his Braves' debut Saturday against the Astros.
It's not a bad matchup to break into your new team with, to say the least. Maholm has been one of the hottest pitchers in the NL of late, allowing one or no runs while going at least six innings in each of his past six starts. He's a must-start against the 'Stros.

Tue Jul 31 201201:03Braves go to backup plan, snag LHP Maholm
Braves acquired LHP Paul Maholm and OF Reed Johnson from the Cubs for RHPs Jaye Chapman and Arodys Vizcaino.
After the Ryan Dempster trade detonated in their faces, the Braves went back to the well in grabbing Maholm. Although the veteran came with a significant price, he will certainly fortify the back-end of Atlanta's rotation. The 30-year-old southpaw has a solid 3.74 ERA and 81/34 K/BB ratio over 120 1/3 innings this season. His contract includes an affordable $6.5 million club option for next year. Maholm is a more attractive fantasy option in Atlanta than he was pitching in hitter-haven Wrigley in front of a putrid team.

Thu Jul 19 201222:25Pirates, Royals interested in Paul Maholm
Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reports that the Pirates and Royals are interested in Cubs' left-hander Paul Maholm.
Maholm limited the Marlins to one run over eight innings on Thursday and now has a 4.09 ERA and 69/29 K/BB ratio over 105 2/3 innings this season. While the 30-year-old left-hander won't make a major impact, he could draw interest from contenders and non-contenders since his contract includes a $6.5 million option for next year.

Fri Jul 13 201221:02Paul Maholm goes seven strong in victory
Paul Maholm allowed one run in seven innings Friday in a win over the Diamondbacks.
The Cubs will need some pitching to get through the season, but they still might offload Maholm along with Ryan Dempster and/or Matt Garza this month. Maholm certainly won't fetch the same return as the other two, but he's been decent enough this year, going 7-6 with a 4.33 ERA.
