Fri Jan 13 201200:31Young not a fantasy asset post Z-bo injury
Sam Young played just eight minutes on Thursday against the Knicks.
We haven't blurbed Young in a while and with some chance that the Grizzlies decided to go small due to Marreese Speights' obvious limitations, he was in the hunt for fantasy value. As you can see, that dog didn't actually end up hunting.

Sat May 14 201110:35Sam Young has his car stolen
Grizzlies swingman Sam Young found out his car was stolen after shootaround on Friday.
The car was located 15 minutes later but Friday wasn't a great day for Young, who was shifted from the starting lineup to a bench role. He's a solid young player and has stepped up since Rudy Gay's injury, but doesn't bring the same shooting range or creativity as O.J. Mayo. In 46 starts this year he's averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 steals in 27 minutes.

Fri May 13 201120:04Young may be booted from starting lineup
Coach Lionel Hollins told media prior to Friday's Game 6 that they should potentially expect a change to the starting lineup.
Though Sam Young performed admirably throughout the regular season and been merely average in the postseason, there is a large contingent of Grizzlies beat writers and bloggers clamoring for more playing time for O.J. Mayo -- and this is the change they expect. Mayo has taken his game to another level in the playoffs, and with Tony Allen around to pick up the defensive slack -- we're on board with spacing the floor for their frontcourt.

Fri May 13 201111:33Sam Young needs to drop out of rotation
Grizzlies writer Chris Herrington makes the case that Sam Young should be to Memphis' wing rotation "What Hamed Haddadi is to the frontcourt rotation: A spot-minute option whose appearance is not guaranteed."
"Facing elimination, it's time for the Grizzlies to put their best players on the floor," writes Herrington, "and that means using Mayo, Battier, and Allen on the wings." He cites postseason usage and performance statistics to support his case, and we're in total agreement -- the Grizzlies need shooters to space the court for their dominant front line.

Thu Apr 14 201101:37Sam Young leads Grizzlies with 22 points
Sam Young led the Grizzlies in a loss to the Clippers Wednesday with 22 points, seven boards, four assists, two steals and two 3-pointers on 8-of-22 shooting.
The Grizzlies appeared to try to lose this game in order to face the Spurs instead of the Lakers in Round 1, so mission accomplished. Greivis Vasquez had 17 points, O.J. Mayo scored 12, Marc Gasol had 10 points and seven boards, Shane Battier added 13 points and eight boards, while Hamed Haddadi came off the bench for 10 points, three boards, a steal and a block.

Thu Mar 31 201101:30Sam Young plays through sprained ankle
Sam Young played through a sprained ankle on Wednesday, finishing with 11 points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block on 5-of-10 shooting.
Not a great line, but not bad either. He's always worth a fantasy look, but hasn't been nearly as good as teammate Tony Allen lately. But he has been much better than Shane Battier, who had just two points in 26 minutes tonight.

Wed Mar 30 201111:23Sam Young listed as a starter
Sam Young (ankle) is listed as a starter in the Memphis Commercial Appeal's preview of Wednesday's game against the Warriors.
These game preview are not always accurate, but we haven't heard a peep about the ankle Young turned on Sunday night. To be on the safe side, we're calling Young questionable. Owners thinking about spot-starting Shane Battier or O.J. Mayo should hold off.

Sat Mar 5 201100:11Sam Young falling out of favor after deadline
Sam Young scored four points on 2-of-8 shooting with two rebounds, two assists, and a block in 24 minutes on Friday.
It has been Young and not Tony Allen that has lost value since the arrival of Shane Battier. Go ahead and drop Young if you haven't already.

Wed Mar 2 201101:52Sam Young scores just six in easy win
Sam Young started again on Tuesday and had six points, three rebounds and two steals in 28 minutes in an easy win over the Spurs.
He's scored six points in two straight games and can be dropped in fantasy leagues if you want to pick up a hot free agent. Shane Battier should eventually replace Young or Tony Allen in the starting lineup, although that's a guess. It hasn't happened yet.

Sat Feb 26 201123:46Sam Young plays 30 minutes in easy win
Sam Young played 30 minutes and hit 5-of-9 shots for 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in an easy win over the Kings.
Shane Battier is probably going to start eventually, but he might replace Tony Allen instead of Young. If so, Young still has a little fantasy value to offer.
Wed Feb 23 201101:52Sam Young scores 10 points with full line
Sam Young scored 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in 30 minutes on Tuesday.
He should be owned in all leagues for his current production, and like teammate Tony Allen he becomes a sell-high candidate with news that Jason Richardson could arriving in a trade.
Thu Feb 17 201117:38Young to get more shots up with Gay out?
Sam Young is averaging 12.1 shot attempts per game over the last eight contests, a number that projects to rise while Rudy Gay (shoulder) is out.
Young has started 19 straight games, but has really picked up his offensive game over the last eight. Gay's absence can only help, even if Young slides over to small forward to make room for Tony Allen. Young's February averages of 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals are sustainable.
Wed Feb 16 201101:18Sam Young worth a look with Gay going down
Sam Young scored 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting with five rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 36 minutes on Tuesday.
Rudy Gay (shoulder) went down and couldn't lift his arm, and needless to say we're concerned that the injury is serious. Young has been providing seventh round value in 8-cat leagues over the past two weeks, and with Gay possibly being out for a bit he should be owned in most (if not all) leagues. As for O.J. Mayo, we don't see his return as a threat to either Young or Tony Allen, particularly long-term.
Sat Feb 12 201104:03WW Alert: Sam Young getting it done
Sam Young scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting with a career-high eight rebounds in 42 minutes on Friday, despite the return of Rudy Gay (toe) to the lineup.
Tony Allen took a backseat to both Young and Gay, playing 25 minutes, but the real story here has been Young's stellar play as of late. He has averaged 16.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks, while shooting 52.7% from the field and 82.6% from the line. He hit just 0.3 threes per game over that time, but is a must-add for the aforementioned numbers and the chance he keeps them up.
Tue Feb 8 201123:37Young scores 14 points with normal stat line
Sam Young scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting with three rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block in 45 minutes of Tuesday's overtime win.
He didn't have to share minutes with Tony Allen, who replaced Rudy Gay (back) and exploded for 27 points, five steals, and three blocks, while Young put up a very familiar line in the process. Young has produced enough to be owned in most leagues, though when Gay returns Tony Allen may land in his lap, just as O.J. Mayo will soon after that.
Tue Feb 8 201101:13Young scores career-high 22 points vs. LAL
Sam Young scored a career-high 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting (including two threes) with three rebounds, one assist, and two steals against the Lakers on Monday.
There are obstacles working against him, such as O.J. Mayo's eventual return and the presence of Tony Allen, but it's time we give him his due for his recent production. He's not must-add material, but he's certainly worth a look in standard leagues.
Sun Feb 6 201102:50Young slows down with just seven points
Sam Young started again at shooting guard but hit just 2-of-8 shots from the field for seven points with three rebounds, no assists, three steals, and one block in 30 minutes.
He put up a couple of intriguing lines in the two games prior to tonight, but we had a feeling one like this was coming around the corner. If you're in a deeper league it may make sense to add him, but for now owners should just keep an eye on him.
