Sat Feb 5 201101:36Sam Young scores 19, but not much else
Sam Young started again at shooting guard for the Grizzlies and hit 7-of-10 shots to tie his season high with points, and added one rebound and two assists on Friday.
That's five straight games in double digits and he's shooting it very well right now. If you are holding Tony Allen, who failed to score, drop him for Young, who could hold the starting job going forward.
Thu Feb 3 201101:07Sam Young plays well in another start for MEM
Sam Young started again and had 18 points, four rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block on 9-of-16 shooting in 40 minutes on Wednesday.
He also didn't commit a turnover tonight and this would have been a season high had he not scored 17 on opening night. He's hit double figures in scoring in four straight games, but this is the first one that is worth of attention. Keep a close eye on him in his next couple games.
Sun Jan 23 201101:08Sam Young starts and scores eight points
Sam Young started at shooting guard on Saturday, and scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting with two rebounds, no assists, and no steals or blocks in 25 minutes.
Tony Allen played six minutes off the bench, scoring two points with two assists and a steal, and Xavier Henry (knee) did not play. We'd like to see Allen return to a starting role, since he can actually provide value for his steals alone. As it is, none of them have value.
Sun Jan 16 201102:52Young starts despite Allen being 'available'
Sam Young got the start at shooting guard despite Tony Allen supposedly being available, and scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting (including a three) with one rebound, two assists, one steal, and four blocks in 27 minutes.
It's a nice line for the blocks, but it's obviously not sending us running to the waiver wire. Allen did not play despite an NBA.com report that he would be, and when he does return he would in theory challenge for minutes and/or the starting job.
Sun Jan 2 201103:39Young starts and scores eight points
Sam Young drew a start for Rudy Gay (illness) on Saturday, and scored eight points on 4-of-11 shooting with three rebounds, no assists, one steal, and two blocks in 33 minutes.
As you can see, he doesn't really carry much value in a spot-start with Gay out, so needless to say he doesn't have much fantasy value, in general.
Mon Dec 27 201023:30Young scores two points in six minutes
Sam Young started for injured Xavier Henry (knee) on Monday, and scored two points with one rebound and two turnovers in just six minutes.
Nothing to see here, folks. Tony Allen's 34 minutes with 14 points, eight rebounds, and six steals had much more fantasy appeal tonight.
Mon Dec 27 201020:45Sam Young a last-second start for Grizz
Sam Young was a last-second starter for the Grizzlies on Monday, with Xavier Henry going to the bench.
One look at his game log will tell you that he is unlikely to have fantasy value, but with the recent coaching change anything is possible. The move could also be good news for O.J. Mayo, as Paul Silas is indicating that he's not married to having Henry in a starting role.
Tue Nov 16 201010:35Sam Young baffled by role
Sam Young admitted he is baffled by his role in the Grizzlies' rotation so far this season.
Young has three DNP-CDs in the last five games after being pegged as the leader of the Grizzlies' bench. The Grizz play their starters as much as anyone in the league, so there's really nothing to see here anyway.

Thu Oct 28 201001:00Sam Young scores 17 for injured Grizzlies
Sam Young took advantage of injuries to Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, finishing with 17 points, five boards, three steals and a 3-pointer Wednesday.
If Gasol and Randolph are going to miss time, Young will be worth a look in some fantasy leagues.
Tue Oct 12 201009:22Young to be Gay's backup
Sam Young is penciled in as Rudy Gay's backup.
Young has a lot of competition for minutes off the bench including free agent pickup Tony Allen and No. 12 overall pick Xavier Henry. Young will be lucky to get the 16 minutes a game he saw last year.

Tue Apr 6 201023:53Sam Young scores 16 pts with four blocks
Grizzlies forward Sam Young scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked four shots in 28 energetic minutes off the bench.
This is an unrealistic level of production from Young, who came in averaging 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.2 blocks in 16 minutes per game. He got more opportunities against the size-deprived Rockets, but should fade into the bench on Wednesday.
