Wed Nov 19 2014 | 10:57 | Collins officially announced retirement from NBA on Monday |
Collins officially announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday, Sports Illustrated reports. |
Collins was a former first-round pick out of Stanford, but never really live up to his billing. Over the course of his career, the seven-footer averaged 3.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.5 blocks per game. At 35 years of age, it appears he has decided to move beyond the game. |

Thu Apr 24 2014 | 13:00 | Jason Collins named 100 most influential |
Jason Collins has been named to Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential list. |
This honor comes as a nice ending to what has been an extremely turbulent year for Collins off the court. He hasn't played in either of the Nets' two playoff games so far, but did speak briefly about being named to the list, "It's a cool honor, but I know I'm not doing this just by myself." |

Sat Mar 15 2014 | 09:29 | Nets sign Jason Collins for rest of season |
The Nets have officially signed Jason Collins for the rest of the season. |
Collins' statistical contributions are negligible for Brooklyn, but he gives them another solid defender, pick-setter and rebounder while Kevin Garnett (back spasms) continues to recover. The Nets have hung their hats on defense lately, allowing their opponents to score the fewest points of any team in their past 10 games. |

Tue Mar 11 2014 | 19:51 | Report: Nets expected to re-sign Collins |
The Nets are expected to sign F/C Jason Collins for the remainder of the season when his second 10-day contract is up on Thursday. |
No surprise here, and no fantasy implications, either. |

Wed Mar 5 2014 | 10:33 | Jason Collins earns second 10-day contract |
The Nets signed Jason Collins to a second 10-day contract on Wednesday, as expected. |
The veteran center is averaging more personal fouls (2.2) than combined points (0.6), rebounds (1.0), assists (0.2) and blocks (0.0). He'll continue to rebound, set hard picks and play physical defense, and his presence is a nice insurance policy with Kevin Garnett bothered by back spasms. |

Mon Mar 3 2014 | 16:52 | Jason Collins will get a second 10-day deal |
Jason Collins will receive a second 10-day deal from the Nets, according to Yahoo! Sports. |
His first 10-day deal will expire on Tuesday and the Nets will have him until at least Mar. 14. After Collins' second 10-day expires, the team would have to sign him for the rest of the season. In his four games with the Nets, Collins averaged 0.8 points, 1.0 boards, 0.3 assists and 0.8 steals in 8.5 minutes per game. |

Thu Feb 27 2014 | 09:22 | Jason Collins expected to stick with Nets |
Jason Collins is expected to remain a Net for the rest of the season. |
Collins' 10-day contract expires next week, but the Nets are reportedly "all but certain" to keep him for the rest of the season, according to sources. Collins has averaged nine minutes per contest in two games with the Nets and has yet to score, so while this is a great human interest story, Collins has absolutely no fantasy value at the moment. |

Sun Feb 23 2014 | 23:44 | Jason Collins goes scoreless in debut vs. LAL |
Jason Collins made his season debut for the Nets on Sunday with no points, two rebounds, one steal and two turnovers in 11 minutes. |
He played down the stretch of this game and his debut went a lot better than his stat line shows. Collins' effort in an NBA game tonight goes beyond the basketball court in what was a historic night at Staples Center. While this will be a huge story all season, it's not going to have many fantasy basketball implications. |

Sun Feb 23 2014 | 13:25 | Nets sign Jason Collins to 10-day contract |
The Brooklyn Nets have officially signed Jason Collins to a 10-day contract, and he will be available to play in Sunday's game vs. the Lakers. |
This marks a historic day, as Jason Collins will be the first openly gay athlete in major professional sports. However, with career averages of 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds, he is clearly not a fantasy asset. |

Sun Feb 23 2014 | 11:59 | Jason Collins to have meeting with Nets |
Jason Collins reportedly has a meeting with the Nets in a few hours, and is expected to sign. |
This further confirms that Glen Davis is likely headed to LA, as Jason Collins was Brooklyn's Plan-B. Stay tuned for official confirmation, but it seems almost certain that Jason Collins will soon be the first openly gay player to play in the NBA. He has no fantasy value. |

Sun Feb 23 2014 | 10:14 | Nets may sign Jason Collins pending Big Baby |
If the Nets are unable to sign Glen Davis, they are expected to sign Jason Collins to a 10-day contract. |
Glen "Big Baby" Davis is expected to make a decision on where he will sign sometime on Sunday, and if he chooses to sign with the LA Clippers instead of the Nets, Brooklyn will look to sign free agent C Jason Collins. While Collins is unlikely to have a large impact on-court, the social implications of the first openly gay man ever in the NBA are huge. Stay tuned. |

Tue Aug 20 2013 | 13:52 | Jason Collins not close to a new team |
Interest in free agent C Jason Collins has been "scarce." |
It would be silly to jump the conclusion that this is because Collins revealed he is gay in April. The lack of interest is because he's 34, severely lacks offensive skills and can't be much more than a third center at this point in his career. Collins is training in Los Angeles in the hopes of landing a one-year deal. The Pistons have passed. |

Sun Aug 18 2013 | 21:06 | The Pistons won't be signing Jason Collins |
The Pistons will not be signing unrestricted free agent Jason Collins. |
It's been fairly quiet on the Collins front and the Pistons and Nets have really been the only two teams linked to him. The Nets are arguably the deepest team in the NBA, so it's hard to imagine they'd have room for him on their team, too. |

Mon Aug 12 2013 | 09:21 | Pistons not interested in Jason Collins |
Updating a previous item, the Pistons are not interested in signing Jason Collins. |
There was some reported interested on Saturday, but it was said to be only "exploratory." Collins is going to attract a lot of attention this offseason for being the NBA's first openly gay player, but it doesn't sound like the unrestricted free agent will be with the Pistons. |

Sat Aug 10 2013 | 13:03 | Report: Pistons interested in Jason Collins |
The Pistons have interest in Jason Collins, according to ESPN. |
Collins, who became the NBA's first openly gay active player, also drew interest from the Nets earlier this summer. ESPN calls the Pistons' interest in Collins "exploratory," but Detroit makes senses as a landing spot for the veteran center. Collins, 34, could provide some solid veteran leadership to the Pistons' young frontcourt duo of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond while also offering a defensive post presence on limited minutes. |

Fri Jun 28 2013 | 13:58 | Report: Nets are interested in Jason Collins |
The Nets are targeting Jason Collins in free agency, Yahoo! Sports reports. |
The 34-year-old center became the first active openly gay player in league and regardless of how many minutes he plays, he'll be a big story in mainstream media. Collins is a former Net and has a good relationship with coaches Jason Kidd and Lawrence Frank from his playing days. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were also ex-teammates of Collins. He'd serve as a defensive post presence for limited minutes on a team trying desperately to win now. |

Tue Apr 30 2013 | 16:01 | 6-of-14 teams expect Collins to stick in NBA |
Of 14 teams polled by ESPN's Marc Stein, only six expect impending free agent Jason Collins to be in the NBA next season. |
This has little to do with Collins' groundbreaking announcement that he is gay. "The reality," said one Western Conference executive, "is that he's been an end-of-the-roster kind of player for the last couple years." Collins is 34 and hasn't averaged more than 12 minutes per game since the 2008-09 season. He still has a chance to stick in the league because he's 7-feet tall, can defend the post and is a leader in the locker room. We'd be a little surprised if Collins doesn't latch on somewhere this summer. |

Tue Apr 30 2013 | 10:17 | Jason Collins not expected back w/ Wizards |
CSN Washington does not expect Jason Collins to return to the Wizards next season. |
It's a byproduct of the Wizards big man depth and not a reaction to Collins' announcement regarding his sexuality. A gritty and smart player, Collins would make for a nice backup on a team that needs insurance in the big man department. |
