Mon Apr 29 2013 | 12:16 | Veteran NBA center Jason Collins comes out |
Wizards C Jason Collins revealed he is gay, making him the first openly homosexual athlete in the history of major American team sports. |
Collins made the groundbreaking revelation in a first-person account as part of this week's issue of Sports Illustrated. "I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation," he said. Collins, a 34-year-old 7-footer, has served as a defensive stopper for six different teams over 12 seasons. He'll be an unrestricted free agent this summer and expects to continue to play in the NBA. Here's Kobe Bryant's response, via Twitter: "Proud of @jasoncollins34," the tweet read. "Don't suffocate who u r because of the ignorance of others #courage #support #mambaarmystandup #BYOU" |

Jason Collins does not plan to retire after the season. |
"I was the starting center for the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day against the Brooklyn Nets," he said. While Collins did admit he's not really a starter in this league, it's still a fairly humorous quote. The veteran center is a long shot to remain in Washington. |

Jason Collins (flu) is a game-time decision on Friday. |
Collins didn't play on Wednesday and that was his first blurb in over a month, so we're not really worried about this for fantasy purposes. Emeka Okafor could pick up a few extra minutes without Collins if he sits. |

Blame Trevor Ariza for giving it to him, and while it won't have major fantasy ramifications, it could clear up even more minutes for Emeka Okafor. |

Fri Jan 18 2013 | 08:59 | Rivers: Collins is doing what we want |
Doc Rivers praised Jason Collins for playing the way the Celtics want him to do consistently. |
"For the most part, when he comes in games, he's given us great lifts," Rivers said. "He's done exactly what we wanted him to do." That's a nice quote from Rivers, but it's not going to inject fantasy appeal into one of the league's toughest screen-setters. |

Wed Dec 19 2012 | 18:54 | Jason Collins gets start at C on Wednesday |
The Celtics will start Jason Collins at C on Wednesday and move Kevin Garnett back to PF. |
The swap means Brandon Bass heads back to the bench as Doc Rivers tries to get the Celtics going. Collins' starting role is unlikely to change his minimal fantasy impact. However, the swap should be enough for Bass owners in 12-14 team leagues to part ways with the PF for any worthwhile free agent. |

Celtics sign C Jason Collins. |
Collins was another veteran's minimum addition to Boston's bench, where he'll spend more time mentoring rookies Fab Melo and Jared Sullinger than he will actually playing. Even Chris Wilcox is ahead of Collins on the depth chart, but he'll be useful defensively against monsters like Dwight Howard. |

The Celtics and free agent Jason Collins have reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum. |

Jason Collins (Achilles) played in Game 3 on Friday against the Celtics, scoring four points on 2-of-4 shooting with three rebounds and four turnovers in 20 minutes. |
Erik Dampier (six points, six boards, one block) saw the floor for a whopping 22 minutes, so the Hawks essentially played the most mediocre center duo we've seen in a while at a full-time clip. Meanwhile, Ivan Johnson (two points, three boards, one steal) played just 12 minutes and we're failing to see the logic Larry Drew is using. |
