Fri Jun 24 201113:43Thome not coming off the DL on Friday
"Still having some issues" with his back and quad injuries, Jim Thome will not come off the disabled list on Friday.
Out since June 1, Thome was supposed to be activated for this evening's game with the Brewers. It's unclear how much extra time he will need on the shelf, but he's highly unlikely to be a safe start for weekly-league players next week.

Wed Jun 22 201120:10Jim Thome to be activated Friday
Jim Thome (back, quad) is expected to rejoin the Twins Friday in Milwaukee.
We presume he'll be activated and serve as a bat off the bench for the Twins over the weekend. The DH got in five at-bats in a simulated game Wednesday and both his back and quad felt great, so it appears he's good to go.

Wed Jun 22 201109:41Twins not sure what to do next with Jim Thome
Jim Thome (back, quad) will hit against Kevin Slowey and Jeff Manship on Wednesday during a simulated game, but the Twins aren't sure what his next step is after that.
It's possible he could be activated from the DL if he looks good, but manager Ron Gardenhire indicated that he might be leaning towards giving Thome more time. "Is that what's best for him?'' Gardenhire asked. "I would love to have Jim Thome come off the bench in a big situation, but I want to make sure he's ready.'' The Twins don't have the DH available this weekend, so it would make sense to wait until next week to activate him.

Sun Jun 19 201112:45Jim Thome feeling sick
Jim Thome (quad) has been shut down for a couple days due to illness, but he'll be available to take at-bats in simulated games Monday and Wednesday.
It's still possible, despite the minor setback, that Thome could be ready to rejoin the Twins by next weekend. But, given that the Twins will be playing in a National League park and not have the DH available, it might make more sense to wait and activate him the following week.

Fri Jun 10 201119:04Thome (quad) receives epidural Friday
Jim Thome (quad) received an epidural injection in his back Friday.
Thome underwent an MRI this week which revealed that his quad pain is actually related to a previous back injury. If the epidural does its job, it's possible he could resume baseball activities before the end of the weekend.

Twins placed DH Jim Thome on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps muscle.
Thome suffered the strain on Wednesday night in the Twins' loss to the Tigers. The 40-year-old designated hitter will likely need around three weeks of recovery time. Minnesota has also placed Jason Kubel on the 15-day disabled list and transferred catcher Joe Mauer to the 60-day DL. Not much is going right these days for Minny.

Thome has been sidelined since April 30 due to an injury which was recently diagnosed as a strained back muscle. The Twins will play the Diamondbacks this weekend until National League rules, so it's possible they could wait until next week to bring him back. Still, progress is progress.

Sat May 14 201118:07Thome getting closer to return
Jim Thome (back, oblique) could play in extended spring games as soon as Monday and Tuesday.
Thome called manager Ron Gardenhire on Saturday morning to tell him his oblique is feeling much better. Still, with interleague play at Arizona on the horizon, Thome won't be rushed. He'd be a pinch-hitter at best next weekend.

Tue May 3 201119:32Jim Thome (oblique) scratched from lineup
Jim Thome (oblique) was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup.
You've got to think a trip to the DL has to be considered at this point. Thome returned to action Saturday after missing a few days, but he was unable to play Sunday after his oblique tightened up on him, and now, he's been scratched again. Jason Kubel will move from left field to the DH slot Tuesday, while Rene Tosoni will take Kubel's spot in left field.
