Fri Feb 15 2013 | 20:02 | Eric Young Jr. to be used as super-utility |
Rockies manager Walt Weiss announced Friday that he envisions Eric Young Jr. as a super-utility player for the Rockies in 2013. |
Weiss has publicly stated that he wants his team to be more versatile and more aggressive on the bases, and Young certainly fits both of those molds. He'll likely see time at second base, third base and in the outfield, and should accumulate enough at-bats to swipe at least 20 bases, making him relevant in most deep mixed leagues. |

Eric Young Jr. (oblique) has resumed some baseball activities, but he will not be healthy enough to return before the end of the season. |
Young will skip winter ball this offseason, as well. His oblique strain came at a bad time, as he had been playing every day and was doing quite well. The 27-year-old will return as a bench player in 2013. |

Eric Young Jr. (oblique) hopes to be activated during the Rockies' next homestand. |
The Rox have a short three-game homestand from September 10-12 against the Giants. Young, who has been sidelined since mid-August, was playing well before his injury and is worth stashing in deeper leagues if he hit the waiver wire. |

Thu Aug 9 2012 | 01:23 | Eric Young Jr. showcases skills in loss |
Eric Young Jr. went 2-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. |
Leading off, Young smashed one off the center-field wall and was off to the races following a misplay by Matt Kemp. Young also took away a hit from Hanley Ramirez with an impressive diving catch in the seventh. With multi-hit nights in each of his past four starts, perhaps Young is finally catching manager Jim Tracy's attention. |

Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-5 and scored both Rockies runs in Monday's 2-0 win over the Dodgers. |
Young has started four games in seven days after starting three in the previous month, and he's playing pretty well in his limited opportunities. If he continues to see semi-regular action, he could be a nice asset in fantasy leagues with his stolen base ability. |

Eric Young Jr. hit a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Nationals. |
Young's eighth-inning blast off of Sean Burnett was a pinch-hit job. It was also his first home run of the season, and just his third extra-base hit. Young doesn't play enough to be worth a look outside of exceptionally deep NL-only leagues. |

Tue Dec 20 2011 | 12:12 | Mets are 'eyeing' Rockies' Eric Young Jr. |
ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports that the Mets are "eyeing" Rockies utilityman Eric Young Jr. |
Rubin's source suggested that sending infielder Justin Turner to Colorado might get the deal done for New York. Young batted just .247/.342/.298 in 229 plate appearances this past year with the Rockies, then had a poor showing in the Venezuelan Winter League. But he still has some upside and might make sense as a buy-low option for the rebuilding Metropolitans. |

Mon Nov 28 2011 | 21:32 | Young issues statement on dismissal from VWL |
Eric Young, Jr. released a statement Monday calling reports that he was dismissed from his Venezuelan Winter League team due to tardiness "incomplete and erroneous." |
Young said that a problem with travel arrangements for a family member led to him arriving late to a game on Thanksgiving Day. While various media reports suggested that he was late twice, he made it a point to clarify that it was his lone attendance issue. Young was also unhappy that the team failed to address his safety and security concerns for a family member. The 26-year-old batted just .240/.333/.240 over 50 at-bats before being dismissed by Bravos de Margarita. |

Sun Nov 27 2011 | 13:48 | Winter league sends Eric Young Jr. home |
Eric Young Jr. has reportedly been sent home by his Venezuelan Winter League team due to tardiness. |
The report comes from a variety of Venezuela media outlets, by way of Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Young was batting an uninspiring .244/.333/.244 over 45 at-bats for the Bravos, so they probably didn't have to think twice about cutting him. The 26-year-old should earn a spot on the Rockies' bench next season. |
