Thu Sep 30 201017:38Jenks (forearm) set for bullpen session Fri.
Bobby Jenks (forearm) is scheduled for a bullpen session Friday.
If it goes well, there's a slight chance that Jenks will be cleared to pitch during the White Sox's season finale against the Indians. He has been out since September 4 because of elbow and forearm discomfort.

Mon Sep 20 201023:54Jenks (forearm) won't pitch on roadtrip
Bobby Jenks (forearm) won't pitch on the team's current road trip, however White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen hasn't given up hope that he'll pitch again before the end of the season.
"The reason we didn't bring Bobby here is because I'm told the six, seven days we're going to be here, he's not going to throw," said Guillen. "I hope when we get to Chicago he's going to throw at least one, two innings to finish this year. But I don't have any idea yet." Jenks hasn't pitched since September 4 due to ulnar neuritis, which causes pain in his right forearm. Guillen could go in any number of directions in the ninth inning, but Chris Sale looks like the one to grab here.

Sun Sep 19 201022:02Confusion still surrounds Bobby Jenks' status
Ozzie Guillen said he didn't know when Bobby Jenks would be back, but acknowledged that the closer might not make the road trip to Oakland and Anaheim this week.
Guillen also said that if his erstwhile closer did not pitch on the upcoming road trip, he probably wouldn't be ready to play in the final seven home games either. He then added to the confusion by saying Jenks could pitch in Oakland. Good luck figuring this one out, though Chris Sale is the one to own right now.

Fri Sep 17 201021:02Jenks not expected back by Monday
Bobby Jenks (forearm) isn't expected to be available out of the bullpen by Monday as originally hoped.
"I don't know. He's playing catch but I can't say anything," said manager Ozzie Guillen. "He's pretty far away because he couldn't crank it up. He hasn't even thrown off the mound yet. He's playing catch." Jenks, who has ulnar neuritis in his right forearm, hasn't pitched since September 4, when he closed out both games of a doubleheader, and it's sounding like he might not be back at all this year. Chris Sale is looking like the closer for the remainder of the season.

Wed Sep 15 201008:51Jenks remains sidelined indefinitely
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said that Bobby Jenks (elbow, forearm) is not expected to return any time soon.
"No, no. He's not in my mind, that's how far away he is," said Guillen. "I don't know where he is right now or how he feels. He has to throw a bullpen and then after that, we have to decide what we do with him." White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said that Jenks felt OK playing catch Tuesday, but when the pitcher tried to go a little longer, "it didn't feel so good." Guillen has a host of options for saves, but rookie Chris Sale looks like the one to pick up in mixed leagues.

Tue Sep 14 201018:19Jenks unavailable for Tuesday's game
Bobby Jenks (elbow, forearm) is unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
Jenks is currently sidelined with ulnar neuritis, caused by irritation of the nerve running behind the joint in his right elbow. There's still no clear timetable for his return. Rookie left-hander Chris Sale has emerged as the best choice for saves in his absence.

Sun Sep 12 201009:44Jenks' return date up in the air
There is no timetable for Bobby Jenks' return from right elbow and forearm pain.
"It might take one day, two days, a week," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We're going to see how he feels, then we'll figure out what we're going to do with him." Guillen will use either Chris Sale or Matt Thornton or both in the ninth inning while Jenks is out. It's possible J.J. Putz could enter the mix, too, though he's struggled lately.

Fri Sep 10 201018:56Jenks unavailable; Thornton to close
Bobby Jenks will not be able to pitch until the muscle in his right forearm improves.
He's still listed as day-to-day with ulnar neuritis, but there's no indication of when he'll actually be ready to pitch. Until he does, Matt Thornton will close.

Thu Sep 9 201010:54Bobby Jenks has 'forearm issue'
During an appearance on WSCR-AM 670 in Chicago on Thursday, White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said that Bobby Jenks "has a forearm issue."
Jenks hasn't pitched since closing out both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, but this is the first thing we're hearing about an injury. There's no word on when he'll be available, but save-chasers should go out and pick up Matt Thornton and J.J. Putz if they are available in your league. Chris Sale might even be worth a look in AL-only and deeper mixed formats.

Bobby Jenks returned to action on Thursday August 19.
Tue Aug 17 201017:12Jenks (back) not available Tuesday
Bobby Jenks (back) said he expects to be available to pitch Wednesday.
There was hope that he would be ready for Tuesday's opener against the Twins, however Jenks intends to use the extra day in order to rest his back. It sounds like J.J. Putz or Matt Thornton will be used if a save opportunity is presented.

Sun Aug 15 201009:31Guillen: Jenks unlikely to be ready Tuesday
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen thinks it's unlikely Bobby Jenks (back) will be ready to pitch by Tuesday.
It sounds as if the Sox may opt to place Jenks on the DL if he in fact will not be ready to pitch by Tuesday. The closer hasn't pitched since being removed from Thursday's game due to back spasms. "My expectation? He won't be ready Tuesday," Guillen said. "I have to go through the worst scenario mentally to be prepared if something happens [to decide] what we're going to do. He has to make the decision if he's out or in. If he can't pitch Tuesday, we'll have to make a decision.'' J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton will be used in the ninth inning while Jenks is out, though Putz blew a save Saturday.

Fri Aug 13 201019:58ChiSox considering placing Jenks (back) on DL
The White Sox are debating placing Bobby Jenks (back) on the disabled list.
Jenks is currently day-to-day with back spasms, but White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen doesn't sound too keen on using 24 players. "We're going to do the best for the ballcub, not that's best for Bobby," said Guillen. "Right now, every game is a must-win game. We need everybody." J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton are in mix for saves for as long as he is sidelined.

Thu Aug 12 201023:11Jenks has back spasms, likely day-to-day
Bobby Jenks has been diagnosed with back spasms.
That's about as good as injury news gets. Jenks exited Thursday's game in the ninth inning after facing three batters. He's going to be re-examined Friday and will probably be labeled as "day-to-day." J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton will get save chances while the big man is out.

Thu Aug 12 201008:39Guillen wants to see more from Jenks
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he wants to see more from Bobby Jenks before regaining the closer role.
Jenks pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's loss to the Twins, but that isn't enough. "What I see from him, it was good," Guillen said. "Is it good enough? Not yet. I want to see him one more time to see how he's doing. I want him to grab his job. I want him to be the guy. We all want that. Maybe he's the one who doesn't believe we want him there, but we do want him there." We're fairly confident he'll regain the role sooner or later, but J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton are worth stashing away until he does.

Fri Aug 6 201017:35Jenks to remains in closer's role
Bobby Jenks will remain in the closer's role for now despite blowing a three-run lead Thursday.
Jenks better be flawless for the next couple of weeks if he expects to retain the job through the end of the season. J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton would both be in line for save chances if Jenks is replaced, though Putz would be the favorite.

Thu Aug 5 201016:40White Sox's Bobby Jenks blows save in ninth
Bobby Jenks was charged with his third blown save after giving up a three-run homer in the ninth Thursday against the Tigers.
It's not the quantity of leads that Jenks is blowing, but more the spectacular fashion in which he's done it. He's still a strong 23-for-26 in save chances this year. The three-run homer today only tied the game and the White Sox went on to win in 11 innings, so Jenks has only cost his team three games on the season, which puts him ahead of the game. Still, the White Sox have a decision to make now. They may well opt to go to J.J. Putz in the closer's role, even though having him and Matt Thornton pitched in the seventh and eighth innings has worked extremely well throughout the year. They're likely better off sticking with what has worked.
Wed Aug 4 201022:20Jenks perfect in save opp again
Bobby Jenks converted a save Wednesday night by tossing his third straight scoreless inning.
Since Ozzie Guillen confirmed Jenks was back in the closer's role on July 27, the fireballer has been unhittable. He has allowed zero hits while striking out five and racked up three saves.
