Tue Jul 27 201008:56Bobby Jenks back to closing for White Sox
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen confirmed Monday that Bobby Jenks is back to closing games for the club.
Jenks was given some time off from the role after blowing his second save of the season last week against the lowly Mariners. "I never took the job away from Jenks. I never did," Guillen said. "I just said I want Jenks to throw the ball better and we will put him in a position to get back on track to see what he is. I keep saying this." Jenks has a 4.95 ERA and 1.57 WHIP.

Mon Jul 26 201010:08Jenks expected to reclaim ninth inning soon
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Sunday that Bobby Jenks can reclaim the ninth-inning gig with one more quality outing.
Jenks was give some time off from the role after blowing a save last Wednesday. "We're not crazy what we're doing here," Guillen said after Jenks threw a scoreless eighth inning in Sunday's loss to the A's. "If Bobby next time throws the ball the same way he threw (Sunday), he'll be back to his role." The big man has 4.95 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 20 saves in 22 chances this season.

Thu Jul 22 201009:01Guillen indicates that closer role is 'open'
After Bobby Jenks gave up two runs in a blown save against the Mariners on Wednesday night, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen indicated that the closer job is "open."
Guillen acknowledged that he would prefer to keep Jenks in the role, but two horrible outings in his last three has forced his hand. ''I got three guys there that can [close games],'' Guillen said. ''I've got [Matt] Thornton, I've got [J.J.] Putz throwing the ball good. Even [Sergio] Santos is throwing the ball good. Hopefully, we'll put Bobby back in those situations when we see him throwing the ball the way we know he can throw it.'' We're probably looking a closer-by-committee here, at least for a little while. Matt Thornton and J.J. Putz should be owned in most formats. Go ahead and grab Sergio Santos in AL-only formats.

Thu Jul 22 201001:09White Sox's Jenks blows lead in 11th
Bobby Jenks was charged with his second blown save and his third loss after giving up two runs in the 11th Wednesday against the Mariners.
It hardly seems right that Jenks could lose his job while still being 20-for-22 in save chances, but this is his second awful outing in his last three and he's allowed runs in four of his eight appearances this month. He better rebound in a hurry or the White Sox could go to a J.J. Putz-Matt Thornton pairing.
Sun Jul 18 201018:33Jenks blows save vs. Twinkies
Bobby Jenks was charged with four runs in a 7-6 loss to the Twins on Sunday.
Like Carlos Marmol's blowup on Saturday, outings like this can cost fantasy owners big-time, especially in a short-week like this. Jenks faced four batters and failed to record an out. He started the ninth with consecutive walks to Orlando Hudson and Joe Mauer and then gave up consecutive run-scoring singles to Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer before being pulled. Sergio Santos would come on and give up a game-tying single to Delmon Young. Michael Cuddyer was able to cross home plate with the winning run thanks to an errant throw by center fielder Alex Rios. With the loss, Jenks' ERA jumped all the way from 3.97 to 4.76.
Fri Jul 16 201000:06Jenks nails down 20th save Thursday
Bobby Jenks picked up his 20th save Thursday in the 8-7 win over Minnesota Thursday.
Jenks came on with the bases loaded in the eighth and got Orlando Hudson to strike out to end the inning. He allowed a run in the ninth but was able to nail down the win when Jim Thome looked at strike three to end the game. As usual, it's been a roller coaster ride with the closer this year, but he's only blown one save opportunity.
Fri Jul 2 201013:21White Sox activate RHP Jenks
White Sox activated RHP Bobby Jenks from the Family Medical Emergency List.
Jenks will be on the roster for tonight's game, but manager Ozzie Guillen indicated that he wasn't sure whether he'd be available to pitch. The White Sox may want him to throw a bullpen session first.
Thu Jul 1 201009:11Jenks may not pitch Friday
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen indicated that Bobby Jenks may not pitch against the Royals on Friday.
Jenks is expected to return from the Family Medical Emergency list on Friday, but that doesn't mean he will be immediately available. "I don't know if we're going to pitch him right away,'' said Guillen. ''That's up to [pitching coach Don Cooper]. I don't think he's going to come out and pitch right away. He's got a calf we've got to protect." Cooper agreed, saying, "You can't just go from your house and then go out and pitch." If the White Sox choose to give him an extra day in order to be game-ready, look for J.J. Putz or Matt Thornton to work the ninth in a save opportunity.

Tue Jun 29 201020:25Jenks will definitely be back by Friday
Bobby Jenks could re-join the team on Wednesday against the Royals, but will definitely be back for this weekend's series against the Rangers.
Jenks was placed on the Family Medical Emergency List on Sunday, so the soonest he will be able to pitch again is Wednesday. It isn't confirmed that he will be ready by then, however.

Mon Jun 28 201018:42Jenks expected to re-join team this week
Bobby Jenks is expected to re-join the White Sox in Kansas City this week.
Jenks has been away from the team since Friday attending to a medical emergency with his wife. It sounds like good news, but because Jenks was placed on the Family Medical Emergency List on Sunday, the soonest he will be able to pitch again is Wendesday.

Sun Jun 27 201011:27Jenks placed on family medical emergency list
White Sox placed RHP Bobby Jenks on the Family Medical Emergency List.
Similar to the bereavement list, Jenks will remain sidelined for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days. Matt Thornton should be the favorite for saves in his absence, though J.J. Putz could also get a look.
Sun Jun 27 201009:09Jenks could go on bereavement list
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said that Bobby Jenks could be placed on the bereavement list.
Jenks has been away from the team attending to an undisclosed family matter, but if he needs to go on the bereavement list, he will miss anywhere from three to seven games. J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton would likely share the closer's job in his absence.

Sun Jun 20 201016:49RP Jenks unavailable for save due to soreness
Bobby Jenks was unavailable with "some soreness," which is "not a concern," according to Ozzie Guillen.
Jenks struggled with tightness in his calf earlier this month, so perhaps that is the source of the soreness. Or perhaps not. Either way, we'll take Guillen at his word that it isn't a concern and that Jenks still holds the closer's job. J.J. Putz tossed a scoreless ninth inning Sunday against the Nationals to hold the 6-3 White Sox lead and earn the save. Putz has apparently pulled even with Matt Thornton in the "next in line" for saves status.

Tue Jun 15 201022:25Jenks earns 12th save with scoreless ninth
Bobby Jenks struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Pirates to earn his 12th save.
It looked earlier in the year like Jenks could lose his grip on the closer's job, but he's come through every time his job security came into question. After posting a 7.88 ERA over nine rocky May appearances, he has rebounded to produce a 1.35 ERA in June over seven outings. He's blown only one save this year despite posting a 4.74 ERA and has a good grip on his ninth-inning job once again.
Wed Jun 2 201022:50Guillen: Jenks ready to return to closing gig
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said that Bobby Jenks (calf) is available to close.
Jenks declared himself ready on Tuesday but was overruled by Guillen. "I talked to Bobby Jenks today, yes," Guillen said. "Hopefully, that's the last time Bobby goes through [injury troubles], but in the meanwhile, I can not worry about putting him in a save situation tonight." Jenks hasn't pitched since tweaking his right calf before Friday's game. Matt Thornton, meanwhile, will return to a setup role. "I don't care how well Thornton is throwing the ball," Guillen said. "The reason we used him [on May 28] was because Bobby was down. You look at Texas' team, they only have two lefties. I have to go with Bobby. If they go with lefties, I might take a chance with Thornton. Right now, the way we play, we have to do everything to win the game."

Wed Jun 2 201009:30Jenks (calf) likely available on Wednesday
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said that Bobby Jenks (calf) was available on Tuesday, but that he didn't want to use him.
Jenks hasn't pitched since tweaking his right calf before Friday's game. It's a tricky injury, but look for him to pitch on Wednesday if the White Sox have a lead.

Wed May 26 201015:12Jenks shaky in ninth before holding on
Bobby Jenks gave up three runs before getting out of the ninth inning Wednesday as the White Sox beat the Indians 5-4.
It wouldn't have been a blown save, since Jenks entered a 5-1 game, but it sure would have been a disaster. Jenks opened the ninth by allowing a double, a walk, a single and another walk, this one scoring a run. Shelley Duncan came up as a pinch-hitter then and lined a single to left, making it a 5-4 game. At that point, the Indians chose to bunt the two remaining baserunners up, even though doing so took the bat out of the hands of their best hitter, Shin-Soo Choo. Following the intentional walk, Austin Kearns struck out and Russell Branyan flied out to end it. The shaky outing took Jenks' ERA back up to 6.35, but it was his first in a couple of weeks and he's still cost the White Sox just one game this year. He is getting the job done.
Sun May 23 201018:20Report: Phillies targeting RPs Jenks, Putz?
The Phillies are scouting Bobby Jenks and J.J. Putz, according to Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago.
Philadelphia is badly in need of relievers that can pitch high-leverage innings after the ineffectiveness and injuries to Brad Lidge and Ryan Madson. If Chicago shows no signs of improving, perhaps Jenks or Putz could help to fill that role. Jenks struggled to start the year but has shown improvement lately. "The last two outings he has thrown the ball very well," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "The ball is coming out of Bobby's hand a lot better. I don't think he's throwing 97 mph. The scoreboard said 97. I don't think 97, but he is throwing the ball much better. He's healthy now. His calf isn't bothering him."
