Fri Feb 28 201415:04Jason McCourty's tackle numbers dip in 2013
Titans LCB Jason McCourty's tackle numbers dipped significantly in 2013.
After posting 195 total tackles in 2011 and 2012, McCourty managed just 65 total tackles last season. This decline wasn't from a lack of opportunity, as McCourty saw five more targets (102) than he did in 2012. McCourty played very well on the field, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 10 of 110 qualifying cornerbacks in 2013, but his days as an elite IDP option may be behind him.

Fri May 10 201312:37Titans expected to play more press coverage
Titans LCB Jason McCourty expects to play more press coverage in 2013.
"Overall this year as a defense, we'll have a little bit more of an aggressive mentality," McCourty said. "I think part of that for us as cornerbacks will be getting up at the line of scrimmage and pressing, getting our hands on the wide receivers." The Titans got throttled underneath last season, while press coverage is one of de-facto DC Gregg Williams' hallmarks. McCourty graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 6 cornerback in 2012, but the Titans allowed a franchise-record 471 points. Enemy quarterbacks completed 66.3 percent of their passes.

Thu Aug 23 201217:25Titans sign CB McCourty to $43M extension
Titans signed CB Jason McCourty to a five-year, $43 million extension.
The deal includes $20 million in guarantees and bonuses. It's a staggering number for a player who has started just 24 games over three seasons, but McCourty is coming off a breakout year with career-highs in tackles (107), interceptions (two), and pass deflections (13). Although the since departed Cortland Finnegan played at a Pro Bowl level last year, the Nashville Tennessean believes McCourty was "arguably" the defensive MVP. It's now clear that the Titans preferred to lock up the younger of the two corners.

Jason McCourty reached escalators that will increase his base salary to $1.26 million in 2012, the final year of his rookie deal.
McCourty was initially scheduled to make $565,000, but is coming off a season that saw him set career-highs in tackles (107), interceptions (two), and pass deflections (13). A sixth-round pick in 2009, McCourty projects to start alongside slot corner Alterraun Verner next season. ESPN's Adam Schefter insists the Titans will not place the franchise tag on free agent CB Cortland Finnegan.

Fri Jan 27 201212:00McCourty Titans defensive MVP for 2011?
The Nashville Tennessean calls LCB Jason McCourty "arguably the team's defensive MVP" in 2011.
Cortland Finnegan, one of the top corners in the league, would certainly beg to differ. McCourty was the team's second-leading tackler (107), surpassing his more hyped brother Devin in caliber of play. He's locked in as a starter for 2012 while free agent Finnegan's Nashville future is in doubt.

Mon Sep 5 201115:47Titans name James McCourty a starter
The Titans have named Jason McCourty their starting left cornerback over Alterraun Verner.
Verner was far and away the better cover corner last season, but the Titans' coaching staff seems to love McCourty, who is Devin's younger brother. McCourty is a more physical player, even if Verner has him beat in most facets. In Week 1, McCourty will likely spend most of his time on Jaguars WR Jason Hill.

Mon Aug 1 201111:33Jason McCourty, Verner to battle again
The Titans' left corner job has been declared an open competition between Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner.
It's the same story as last season. Verner started 12 games a year ago while McCourty started six. Whoever wins out will see plenty of action while running opposite Courtland Finnegan.

Thu Oct 21 201008:40McCourty won't be rushed back
Titans CB Jason McCourty (arm) has been cleared for contact, but he's not a given to play this weekend.
"He still has a plate in his arm and he is two weeks off of surgery,'' coach Jeff Fisher said. "There's a difference from being cleared and being able to play, and were going to take our time with it.'' McCourty has lost his starting job while out, as Alterraun Verner has been the team's best cornerback in his absence.

Sat Oct 16 201013:53McCourty (arm) practices, on schedule
Titans CB Jason McCourty (arm) practiced for a second straight day Friday, but has yet to be cleared for contact.
Head coach Jeff Fisher remarked that McCourty is "close" to returning, and all indications are that the cornerback is on schedule to return in Week 6 or Week 7. Rookie CB Alterraun Verner has played well in McCourty's absence, and there's a chance McCourty will be relegated to backup duty even if he's healthy.

Tue Sep 28 201012:26McCourty undergoes forearm surgery
Titans LCB Jason McCourty has undergone successful forearm surgery and will be sidelined 3-4 weeks.
McCourty suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Week 3 win over the Giants. McCourty won a starting job over Alterraun Verner in training camp, but Verner has arguably looked better in his time on the field, so this won't affect the Titans' pass defense.

Mon Sep 27 201017:44Jason McCourty fractures his forearm
Titans LCB Jason McCourty did fracture his forearm in the team's Week 3 win over the Giants and may need surgery.
Rookie Alterraun Verner will take over at left corner if McCourty can't play going forward. Coach Jeff Fisher wouldn't rule McCourty out for Week 4 Monday, but it seems highly unlikely that he'll play against the Broncos. Verner has looked like an impact player, so this doesn't have a big impact.

Sun Sep 26 201022:51Jason McCourty injures his forearm
Titans coach Jeff Fisher indicated that the forearm injury LCB Jason McCourty suffered in Week 3 could be serious.
It sounds like the forearm could be cracked. McCourty was off to a strong start for a Titans pass defense that ranked No. 1 in the league entering Sunday's game against the Giants. He's contributed an interception and 15 tackles.

Tue Sep 7 201014:00Fisher won't name LCB starter before Sunday
Titans coach Jeff Fisher won't say before Sunday whether Jason McCourty or Alterraun Verner will start at left cornerback.
McCourty has started all four preseason games, which makes him the heavy favorite, but Verner keeps making plays to keep the competition interesting. The two players split reps in practice Monday. Whoever wins the job will be targeted often by opposing quarterbacks this year with Cortland Finnegan on the other side.

Thu Sep 2 201021:45Jason McCourty wins starting job
Jason McCourty has won the battle to start at left cornerback for the Titans.
With Cortland Finnegan back from injury, McCourty outlasted rookie Alterraun Verner for the first-team gig. McCourty ended up starting each of the Titans' four preseason games. He'll be targeted heavily by quarterbacks this year.

Wed Aug 18 201010:06McCourty takes lead in LCB battle
Jason McCourty remains out front in the battle to start at left corner.
McCourty and rookie Alterraun Verner impressed in the first preseason game while Ryan Mouton was erratic. McCourty doesn't have the upside of Mouton, but is more consistent right now. Whoever wins out will be tested plenty as opposing teams look to avoid Cortland Finnegan.

Tue Aug 10 201021:57Jason McCourty emerges as favorite at LCB
NFL.com's Steve Wyche reports that Jason McCourty is the frontrunner to start at left cornerback for the Titans this season.
McCourty has made a lot of plays in camp, and Devin's twin brother is pulling away from Ryan Mouton, rookie Alterraun Verner, and injury-prone Tye Hill. Still, this is probably going to be an in-season trouble spot for the Titans.

Wed Jun 30 201010:52LCB job in McCourty's to lose
The starting left corner job is Jason McCourty's to lose, according to The Tennessean.
McCourty has had a big offseason and jumped in front of the more talented Ryan Mouton. It's a battle that should continue through training camp, with Mouton getting some chances to work with the first team.
