CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed Jake Lamb on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and reinstated fellow outfielder Billy Hamilton from the IL. The AL Central-leading White Sox also recalled first baseman Gavin Sheets from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned outfielder Luis González to their top farm club. AL MVP José Abreu was in the starting lineup for Tuesday night's game against Minnesota after the first baseman was hit on his left knee by a pitch on Sunday. Manager Tony La Russa said Abreu ran without a limp earlier in the day. But third baseman Yoán Moncada was sidelined by a “barking” right shoulder, according to La Russa. “I know he got some treatment and it’s still not right, so just not going to push it,” La Russa said. The White Sox also announced center fielder Luis Robert has been cleared to increase his level of baseball activities at the team's complex in Arizona. Robert tore his right hip flexor on May 2. CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed Jake Lamb on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and reinstated fellow outfielder Billy Hamilton from the IL. The White Sox also recalled first baseman Gavin Sheets from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned outfielder Luis González to their top farm club. The 30-year-old Lamb has a strained right quadriceps. He is batting .224 with five homers and 10 RBIs in 31 games in his first season with Chicago. Hamilton was placed on the IL on June 6 with a strained right oblique. He is hitting .217 with two homers, 10 RBIs and five steals in 36 games for the AL Central leaders. The 25-year-old Sheets, a second-round pick in the 2017 amateur draft, is looking for his big league debut. He was with the White Sox for a couple of days earlier this month, but did not get into a game. The 6-foot-5 Sheets batted .292 with seven homers and 33 RBIs in 41 games with Charlotte. He also can play the corner outfield spots. Sheets' father, Larry, played for Baltimore, Detroit and Seattle during eight years in the majors. González, 25, went 2 for 8 in six games with the White Sox after he was recalled from Charlotte last week. He got his first big league hit when he doubled during Wednesday's 4-3 win at Pittsburgh. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Thu Jun 3 202117:24White Sox place prized rookie Vaughn on COVID-19 list
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Andrew Vaughn on the COVID-19 injured list on Thursday, with general manager Rick Hahn saying the prized rookie was asymptomatic. “Our hope is that, similar to our other IL placements of this nature, he will return shortly to the active roster,” Hahn said in a statement. "At this time, no other players on the roster are impacted.” The 23-year-old Vaughn is batting .226 with four homers and 12 RBIs. The White Sox took him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 amateur draft. Manager Tony La Russa said Vaughn was held out of Monday's doubleheader at Cleveland because of allergies. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday. La Russa said he wasn't sure if the allergies triggered a positive COVID-19 test. “You’d have to be a doctor to know how that affects the test," La Russa said. “I'm just saying that he's healthy and all of a sudden he was miserable that day. Then, he shows whatever showed up in the test. I think there's been a couple tests since then where he's negative so we're optimistic that — whatever tests he has left to take — it's just a temporary thing.” Chicago also recalled infielder and outfielder Gavin Sheets from Triple-A Charlotte. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
