Wed Aug 3 2011 | 20:11 | Brad Bergesen a candidate for Saturday |
The Orioles have yet to decide on a starter for Saturday, but Brad Bergesen, Chris Tillman and Jo-Jo Reyes are the main candidates. |
Tillman is likely only a candidate if Jake Arrieta winds up going on the DL (which is likely), while Reyes hasn't pitched since July 22, so it would seem that the swingman Bergesen is the most likely candidate. He was knocked around for six runs -- four earned -- over just three innings his last time out. |

Brad Bergesen made it through just three innings Thursday, allowing six runs - four earned - on six hits and three walks in a loss to the Blue Jays. |
Bergesen was solid his last time out, but he's been pretty awful all season, holding a 5.79 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 79 1/3 innings. Also, in the 20 games in which he has appeared, the Orioles have lost 18 of them. Assuming he's still a part of the rotation, Bergesen will go up against the Blue Jays again, this time at home. |

Tue Jul 19 2011 | 04:27 | Bergesen escapes with no-decision |
Brad Bergesen returned to the mound on Monday, yielding six runs (four earned) on eight hits over five innings in a no-decision against Boston. |
He was perfect through two innings, which is about the only bright spot in this effort. Bergesen was destined for another loss before the Orioles posted a five-spot to take the lead in the fifth inning. His ERA in 10 starts this season (5.74) is almost identical to his ERA in eight relief appearances (5.82). His regression over his first three major league seasons has to be a bit worrisome. |
