Mon Apr 4 2011 | 13:15 | Bergesen would make Weds. start for Guthrie |
Brad Bergesen will make Wednesday's start if Jeremy Guthrie (flu) isn't feeling well enough. |
Guthrie had to be hospitalized Monday after experiencing flu-like symptoms and might not have enough time to get back to 100 percent. Bergesen was stretched out as a starter this spring, but he posted a 5.82 ERA over six starts and was thrown into the bullpen to open the year. |

Wed Mar 30 2011 | 17:11 | Bergesen will open seasonin the minors |
Brad Bergesen will open the season in the bullpen. |
The Orioles are likely to have him serve as the club's fifth starter once the scheduled requires one. Bergesen posted a 5.82 ERA in six starts this spring and won't carry much in the way of fantasy value. |

Sun Mar 27 2011 | 08:32 | Brad Bergesen will play catch Sunday |
Brad Bergesen admitted that his forearm was still tender Sunday but will still try to play catch anyway. |
The right-hander was hit on the arm by a line drive Friday. There's nothing structurally wrong, so he should be fine for the start of the regular season. As long as he shows he's healthy, Bergesen should be able to hang on to a rotation spot. |

Sat Mar 26 2011 | 08:43 | Brad Bergesen hopes to play catch Sunday |
Brad Bergesen will ice down his forearm Saturday and hopes to play catch Sunday. |
Bergesen was hit on the arm by a line drive off the bat of Denard Span in his last start, but luckily X-rays revealed no fractures or structural damage. He should be fine for his first regular season start. |

Fri Mar 25 2011 | 13:17 | Bergesen lifted Friday after hit with liner |
Brad Bergesen had to be lifted from Friday's game after taking a liner off his right arm. |
Twins outfielder Denard Span did the damage just four pitches into Bergesen's start. The righty was in obvious pain and may have to forfeit his shot at a spot in the starting rotation if the comebacker caused any real harm. |

Sun Mar 20 2011 | 16:29 | Orioles' Bergesen allows two runs |
Despite giving up eight hits, Brad Bergesen managed to hold the Rays to two runs over five innings on Sunday. |
Bergesen is going to be hit, but by limiting the walks and homers, he'll try to survive another year in the tough AL East. He shouldn't have any fantasy value in AL-only leagues. |

Tue Mar 15 2011 | 17:19 | Bergesen has another pedestrian outing |
Brad Bergesen had an uninspiring day against the Astros on Tuesday, allowing four hits, three runs and two walks in four innings of work. |
His spring ERA is now 6.94 through 11 2/3 innings. He's set to begin the year in Baltimore's rotation, but isn't likely to be any sort of a fantasy option outside of deeper AL-only leagues. |

Brad Bergesen rejoined the Orioles and threw a bullpen session Saturday. |

Fri Feb 18 2011 | 08:54 | Bergesen sent home early due to illness |
Brad Bergesen was sent home early from Orioles camp Friday due to an illness. |
The O's don't want whatever Bergesen has to begin spreading through the clubhouse, so they'll isolate him for the next couple of days with some antibiotics. He should be back in action by early next week. |

Sun Jan 30 2011 | 09:38 | Brad Bergesen feeling healthy |
Brad Bergesen says he's completely over the arm issues that plagued him at times during the 2010 season. |
"It's been a complete turnaround. Last year, I don't even think I was throwing at this point. I hadn't picked up a ball yet versus now," Bergesen said. "I've thrown about six [bullpen sessions] so far, and the arm has felt healthy, really good. Hopefully, it's one of the things that I can carry on into the season." The sinkerballer is penciled in as one of the Orioles' five starters, and while the upside isn't great, he does have the potential to be a solid innings-eater at the back end of the rotation. |

Wed Sep 15 2010 | 21:33 | Bergesen comes out of nowhere for CG win |
Brad Bergesen tossed his third career complete game on Wednesday night, limiting the Jays to one run en route to his seventh win. |
This didn't come out of nowhere. Bergesen was 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA in August and then followed that up with a 2.31 ERA in two earlier starts this month. He's not a strikeout pitcher (just three tonight) but has been working out of trouble beautifully during this hot streak. Still, we wouldn't risk him in most formats at Boston next time out. His luck will run out soon. |
Wed Sep 8 2010 | 16:33 | Orioles' Bergesen strong versus Uankees |
Brad Bergesen allowed just one run over 6 1/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Yankees. |
Bergesen had been 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA in two career starts versus the Bombers, but he was exceptional today before leaving with a one-run lead. Unfortunately, Koji Uehara blew the save in the ninth, costing Bergesen his seventh victory. |
Thu Sep 2 2010 | 22:27 | Bergesen struggles in loss to Red Sox |
Brad Bergesen allowed five runs -- two earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. |
He needed 114 pitches to get through the 5 1/3 frames, as he permitted eight hits and walked five while striking out four. Bergesen, whose ERA now sits at 5.47 for the season, had three impressive starts in August, but you never know what you're going to get from him when he takes the mound. He'll face the Yankees on the road the next time out. |
Sat Aug 28 2010 | 02:59 | Orioles' Bergesen defeats Angels |
Brad Bergesen limited the Angels to one run and four hits in eight innings to win Friday night. |
Bergesen entered August 3-9 with a 6.63 ERA -- including an 0-5 showing in July -- but he's 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA in five starts this month. He's always going to have problems with quality left-handed hitters, but the Angels are a good matchup for him. He's not going to be worth playing in Boston next week. |
Sat Aug 21 2010 | 19:10 | Bergesen earns win vs. Rangers |
Brad Bergesen gave up five runs over seven innings in a win over the Rangers on Saturday. |
Yet another example of why wins don't tell the whole story, though his offense owed him one with the poor run support they've been giving him lately. Bergesen allowed nine hits -- including a two-run blast to Josh Hamilton in the seventh -- while walking two and fanning three. Today's start aside, Bergesen has capitalized on some poor offenses lately. He's nothing more than a spot-starter in AL-only leagues. |
Mon Aug 16 2010 | 23:12 | Bergesen has ugly outing Monday |
Brad Bergesen gave up three runs over 5 1/3 innings Monday but left with a no-decision in the O's 5-4 win over the Mariners. |
The light-hitting Mariners didn't have any trouble squaring up Bergesen, who walked two and gave up nine hits, including back-to-back homers from Russell Branyan and Jose Lopez. The right-hander had been stellar over his three previous efforts, giving up just four runs combined. He'll face the Rangers in his next outing. |
Mon Jul 26 2010 | 22:13 | Bergesen blasted for eight runs Monday |
Brad Bergesen surrendered eight runs over five innings in Monday's loss to Toronto. |
The right-hander gave up 10 hits and walked one. We can't say we're surprised at Bergesen's lack of success this season following a promising rookie year, but the wheels have really fallen off, as his ERA sits at 6.95 and his WHIP at 1.75. He'll look to bounce back this weekend in KC. |
Wed Jul 21 2010 | 16:24 | Orioles' Bergesen gives up five runs in loss |
Brad Bergesen yielded five runs in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Rays. |
Bergesen matched his career high with seven strikeouts today, but that's just not his game. The 24-year-old needs to work the bottom of the strike zone to succeed, yet he got just three outs on the ground today. The Orioles should seriously consider dropping him from the rotation, this time for good. |
Wed Jul 7 2010 | 21:42 | Bergesen gives up 11 hits in loss to Tigers |
Brad Bergesen fell to 3-6 Wednesday, allowing four runs over six innings in the loss to the Tigers. |
The righty allowed 11 hits and walked three in the outing, as the Tigers left 17 runners on base. The sinkerballer is finding it difficult to repeat the success from his rookie season, as his ERA now sits at 6.40, and he's already been sent down to the minors twice. |
Sat Jun 26 2010 | 14:22 | Orioles recall RHP Bergesen |
Orioles recalled RHP Brad Bergersen from Triple-A Norfolk. |
Bergesen will rejoin the rotation and face the Nationals today. He's not recommended in fantasy leagues. |
