Thu Feb 17 2011 | 14:20 | LF will be DeRosa's main position? |
Giants manager Bruce Bochy has hinted that while he can also fill in at third, first and even some shortstop, Mark DeRosa will likely concentrate primarily on left field. |
It's no surprise, given that that's the only position where he has a legitimate chance of earning a starting job. DeRosa is entering Spring Training with his wrist back at 100 percent, but we thought the same thing last year only to see him manage just 93 at-bats before shutting things down. If he is healthy, he has a shot to beat out Pat Burrell for the starting job. |

Wed Feb 16 2011 | 16:14 | Mark DeRosa aiming for everyday gig |
Mark DeRosa said Wednesday in Giants camp that he wants to be an "everyday player" this season. |
That will all depend on the health of his left wrist, which has now required multiple surgeries. He is entering spring training with a clean bill of health and will be given looks all around the outfield during Cactus League play, but regular at-bats probably won't come easy during the regular season. |

Giants activated OF Mark DeRosa from the 60-day disabled list. |
DeRosa had season-ending surgery in June to fix the tendon sheath in his left wrist. The 35-year-old finished the first year of a two-year, $12 million contract with a .194/.279/.258 batting line to go along with one home run and 10 RBI. DeRosa should be fine once spring training rolls around, though he's no sure thing after undergoing two wrist surgeries in less than a year. |

Mark DeRosa (wrist surgery) will begin swinging a bat sometime in September. |
"The doctor said I'll be swinging before the end of September," DeRosa said. "Swinging at what capacity remains to be seen." DeRosa said he feels "completely different" after a second operation on his wrist, adding that nothing appears "loose" as it did in spring training and that the numbness is gone. DeRosa should be fine by spring training, but the Giants will probably bring in some insurance over the winter in case he's not ready to start. |

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Mark DeRosa (wrist) will undergo season-ending surgery next week. |
In what was essentially a foregone conclusion for weeks now, DeRosa will have the tendon sheath in his left wrist fixed and undergo a second procedure to free an aggravated nerve. The 35-year-old ends the first year of a two-year, $12 million contract with a .194/.279/.258 batting line to go along with one home run and 10 RBI. Aubrey Huff should continue to play left field on a regular basis. |

A team trainer tells Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle that it's "conceivable" Mark DeRosa (wrist) will need two operations to fix his left wrist and nerve. |

A source tells Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com that Mark DeRosa was scheduled for more tests on his ailing left wrist on Monday, and that no decision had been made regarding surgery. |
A source close to DeRosa says that he will undergo season-ending wrist surgery this week, so it sounds like something of a foregone conclusion at this point. According to Urban, DeRosa is said to be eager to have the surgery as soon as possible, but he and the Giants want to see if the numbness is related to the ruptured tendon sheath in the wrist before proceeding. It's possible that a decision could be announced as soon as Monday night. |

Wed Jun 9 2010 | 15:02 | Mark DeRosa holding off surgery for now |
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that the Giants and Mark DeRosa have decided against wrist surgery for now. |
From what DeRosa has told Schulman, he would likely need 3-4 months to recover from wrist surgery, so waiting a few more weeks or even another month in hopes of coming back later this season won't exactly hurt his chances of being ready for 2011. Given his numerous setbacks, the odds are against him taking the field again in 2010. |

He was unhappy with the way his wrist responded at Single-A San Jose, so he'll try again later this week. It was probably a longshot anyway, but DeRosa will not be activated from the disabled list on Friday. In fact, it might not be long before he opts for surgery. |

He could begin his rehab in the minors as soon as early next week. DeRosa's versatility virtually ensures that the Giants will have a spot open for him when he's ready to rejoin the team, but for now, they're shuffling players around as best they can to fill the spots vacated by DeRosa and Edgar Renteria. |

Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Mark DeRosa (wrist) will likely need a minor league rehab assignment before returning from the disabled list. |
"I'd say that he's looking at a few at-bats in rehab," said Bochy. It doesn't look good right now, but DeRosa hopes he'll make enough progress with his troublesome left wrist to ensure a return from the disabled list next Tuesday. |

Mon May 17 2010 | 19:41 | Giants place DeRosa (wrist) on disabled list |
Giants placed OF Mark DeRosa on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 9, with left wrist soreness. |
As expected. DeRosa will continue to rest the wrist for now, but plans to be ready to return as soon as he is eligible next Tuesday. Don't be surprised if he eventually needs surgery. Either way, he makes for a pretty poor fantasy bet at this point. |
Mon May 17 2010 | 14:04 | Report: DeRosa to be placed on disabled list |
According to CSNBayArea.com, Giants utilityman Mark DeRosa (elbow, wrist) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list shortly. |

The 35-year-old has struggled since being diagnosed with a torn tendon sheath last season in St. Louis and was batting .194/.279/.258 in 93 at-bats this year. |
