Tue Oct 25 2011 | 11:08 | Report: Cason could be benched for Gilchrist |
There's a "strong chance" Chargers RCB Antoine Cason is benched in favor of rookie Marcus Gilchrist, sources tell the San Diego Union-Tribune. |
Cason was lit up by Plaxico Burress Sunday and has been inconsistent all year. "We're going to address that," coach Norv Turner said Monday. "We don't have to make that decision right now. We're going to evaluate the two guys through the week." Gilchrist impressed in a Week 4 spot start in place of Quentin Jammer. The Chargers are still ranked third against the pass heading into Monday's game against the Chiefs. |

Antoine Cason (broken finger) returned to team drills Sunday. |
Cason worked out with a giant cast on his right hand. He'll get the reps he needs even if he won't put the finger in harm's way. Cason will start across from Quentin Jammer come Week 1. |

Mon Aug 1 2011 | 14:00 | Cason out 2-4 weeks after finger surgery |
Chargers CB Antoine Cason was given a 2-4 week timetable after Monday's surgery to repair a broken finger. |
The starter opposite Quentin Jammer will be back well before the start of the season. Cason had been projected as the primary punt returner, so this could be an opening for rookies Marcus Gilchrist and Jordan Todman to seize the job. |

Chargers CB Antoine Cason broke a finger on his right hand during Sunday's practice. |
Cason will undergo surgery Monday after X-rays revealed a "severe break." A timetable for his return is unknown, but corners can often play with a "club" if need be. However, Cason's projected role as a punt returner may have to wait. |

Mon Apr 25 2011 | 15:53 | Chargers' Antoine Cason had big year in 2010 |
Chargers RCB Antoine Cason allowed just 51 percent of the passes thrown his way to be completed last season. |
It was the seventh best mark in the NFL among corners targeted 90 or more times. Cason chipped in four interceptions and 17 pass breakups, both team highs. The former No. 27 overall pick may surpass Quentin Jammer as San Diego's No. 1 corner in 2011. Jammer is still playing at a high level, but turns 32 in June. |

Chargers CB Antoine Cason is expected to return punts again against the 49ers Thursday. |
With Darren Sproles coming off a concussion, Cason filled in admirably yesterday. Although he hadn't returned a punt since college, Cason returned five punts for 76 yards. "I liked getting Darren more involved in the offense today. It helped us," coach Norv Turner said. |

Sun Aug 1 2010 | 15:38 | Antoine Cason opens camp as starting RCB |
As expected, Antoine Cason opened Chargers training camp as the team's starting right cornerback. |
He's been handed the job of replacing Antonio Cromartie despite some rumors Cason isn't a favorite of San Diego's coaching staff. An elite college corner, Cason hasn't made many big plays in his first two seasons. He has just four picks in 32 games after intercepting 15 in four years at Arizona. |

Thu Apr 8 2010 | 08:48 | Cason, coaches have frayed relationship? |
Chargers coaches were "taken aback" by Antoine Cason's negative reaction to getting replaced by Steve Gregory as nickel back, according to beat writer Kevin Acee. |
Cason "steamed the rest of the season," and Acee insists the relationship between the cornerback and his coaches "remains frayed." Coach Norv Turner brushes it off as "in the past," and the trade of Antonio Cromartie leaves Cason as the starter opposite Quentin Jammer. The Bolts may grab a corner after addressing running back and nose tackle in the draft. |
