Wed Apr 3 201322:40Halladay allows five runs in rough 2013 debut
Roy Halladay allowed six hits and five runs over 3 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Braves.
All spring Halladay insisted his struggles weren't an issue. So much for that. Halladay's velocity was up, but that was one of the only positives to take from the debut outing. Nine of the 10 outs Halladay recorded were by strikeout, which is promising, but he also allowed two home runs. The 35-year-old's stock is dropping faster than Carnival Cruise reservations.

Thu Mar 28 201314:33Halladay gives up eight hits in final tuneup
Roy Halladay was charged with two runs in 4 1/3 innings Thursday in his start against the Blue Jays.
The good news is that Halladay showed a bit better velocity, throwing 88-91 mph, and struck out six today. The bad is that he struggled to get his sinker down and was hit pretty hard as a result. He actually got just 10 outs himself; the other three came on the basepaths. He allowed eight hits and two walks. We're not close to giving up on Halladay for the season, but we wouldn't expect much from him in the early going.

Sat Mar 23 201316:42Doc 'gets work in' against minor leaguers
Roy Halladay allowed seven hits and three runs -- two earned -- in four innings against Blue Jays minor leaguers Saturday.
"He was OK. He got his work in," Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said afterwards. Not exactly high praise for the 35-year-old, especially considering the concerns about his velocity this spring. Reports say Halladay generated few swings and misses and that his fastball was sitting between 86 and 89 miles per hour. Halladay might be ready for Opening Day, but how effective he will be is anyone's guess at this point.

Wed Mar 20 201312:18Roy Halladay (flu) throws bullpen session
Roy Halladay (flu) threw a bullpen session Wednesday.
Halladay was pulled from Sunday's start after just one inning due to a natsy stomach virus. He has lost 10 pounds in the process, so he's still trying to regain his strength. The veteran right-hander is slated to pitch in a minor league game on Saturday and expects to start the season on time. Given his shaky performance and diminished velocity this spring, he remains a major wild card in fantasy leagues.

Tue Mar 19 201312:09Roy Halladay (flu) hopes to start Saturday
Roy Halladay (flu) hopes to make his next start on Saturday.
Halladay only made it through one inning Sunday before being pulled due to a stomach virus and told reporters Tuesday that he has lost 10 pounds in the last four days. Still, he hopes to throw a bullpen session Wednesday and build from there. While the good news is that he is starting to feel better, the diminished strength isn't a good sign for his already underwhelming velocity.

Mon Mar 18 201309:19Halladay still feeling sick Monday morning
Roy Halladay was still feeling sick Monday morning.
Halladay showed up to the Phillies' spring training complex Monday to get some medicine and then quickly left. He made it through only one inning Sunday against the Orioles and isn't scheduled to throw again until this Saturday.

Sun Mar 17 201313:25Roy Halladay exits start after one inning
Roy Halladay left Sunday's start after one inning with a stomach virus.
Given his recent velocity and performance issues, the worst was naturally assumed after Doc exited. However, it appears that it's no big deal. The right-hander allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless inning of work. His fastball was reportedly sitting around 87 mph.

Thu Mar 14 201313:15Roy Halladay throws bullpen session
Roy Halladay threw a bullpen session on Thursday.
Halladay was shelled for seven runs in 2 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Tigers and failed to hit 90 mph with his fastball. But he is claiming to be healthy and the reports were good from Thursday's workout. "It went well," pitching coach Rich Dubee said. "It went fine."

Tue Mar 12 201316:48Weary Halladay tagged for seven runs
Roy Halladay struggled mightily Tuesday, giving up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Tigers.
Halladay was throwing in the mid-80s today, which is a very discouraging sign. While he said afterwards that he's not having any physical problems at all, he indicated that he was lethargic today because of a new workout regimen and an altered pitching schedule. Maybe that's all it was, but we're still very concerned that Halladay's velocity is going in the wrong direction.

Wed Mar 6 201316:36Roy Halladay goes four scoreless in win
Roy Halladay blanked the Nationals for four innings Wednesday to win for the second time this spring.
Halladay, apparently getting ornery in his old age, threw behind Tyler Moore today in obvious retaliation for Stephen Strasburg hitting Chase Utley the previous inning. He was plenty effective, allowing just a couple of hits and walking one. His velocity still isn't quite as good as hoped, but his spring is going about as well as could have been expected.

Sat Mar 2 201300:02Roy Halladay feels good after second start
Roy Halladay noted that he feels good physically and conditioning-wise after his second spring training start, and is looking forward to having a bounce-back season in 2013.
Halladay, who dealt with nagging back issues throughout the 2012 season, worked hard over the offseason to strengthen his core and his lower body. At 36-years-old, there is no guarantee that the back issues are completely behind him and won't re-emerge. He represents a risky, but potentially very high rewarding, fantasy option in 2013.

Fri Mar 1 201316:37Roy Halladay earns win over Yankees
Roy Halladay picked up the win over the Yankees on Friday after allowing one run and striking out three in 2 1/3 innings.
Just like his first time out, Halladay was working at 88-91 mph today. That's not ideal as far as his chances of reemerging as an elite pitcher, but even if he doesn't improve from there, he's skilled enough to be quite an asset to both the Phillies and fantasy teams.

Sun Feb 24 201317:34Roy Hallday happy with spring debut
Roy Halladay allowed one run and struck out two in two innings versus the Tigers on Sunday.
A Victor Martinez homer was the only hit. Halladay was pleased with the outing: "It feels a lot free and easier right now than it did at the end of last season. I feel like arm-wise it's less effort." According to CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury, Halladay mostly worked at 88-91 mph today.

Tue Feb 19 201314:50Hamels or Lee likely to start on Opening Day
Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee indicated Tuesday that team will likely go with either Cole Hamels or Cliff Lee on Opening Day.
Halladay has made 10 straight Opening Day starts, but that streak could come to an end this year, as the club would prefer to split Hamels and Lee up in the rotation. "I think it's how we line up best," said Dubee. "Realistically, we could pitch anybody the first day as far as Doc, Cole and Cliff. On most staffs, they are No. 1 starters, so they all could pitch opening day. But part of what we're thinking is trying to split those two lefties. Last year we started with two lefties (after Halladay) and I'd just like to split them up."

Wed Feb 13 201312:14Halladay blames back for shoulder problems
Roy Halladay blamed a previously undisclosed back injury for his eventual shoulder issues last year.
Halladay "totally changed his training program" as a result, so hopefully the shoulder issues are a thing of the past. Still, with all the innings he has racked up over the years, there is risk involved in banking on a bounce back season.

Tue Jan 22 201320:38Roy Halladay throws off mound
Roy Halladay threw 30 pitches off a mound Tuesday as he ramped up his offseason throwing program.
The session, which was overseen by pitching coach Rich Dubee, went well. Hallad missed ample time last season due to shoulder issues, but the ailment hasn't held him back at all over the winter. He holds big bounce-back potential in 2013 if he can avoid the disabled list.

Wed Nov 21 201218:59Phils have discussed extension for Halladay
Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Phillies have "batted around the idea" of an extension for Roy Halladay.
It's odd timing, given that Halladay is coming off a down year where he dealt with shoulder problems. General manager Ruben Amaro said they've "kicked it around, but we tabled it," though he wouldn't rule out resuming talks eventually. "I guess it's still possible," said Amaro. "But a lot has to do with how he feels and how he performs. So that's a decision and a conversation that would probably have to go into the spring, and maybe into the season."

Sat Sep 29 201223:18Halladay struggles in victory over Marlins
Roy Halladay struggled in a victory over the Marlins on Saturday, surrendering four runs on six hits over five innings of work.
Halladay racked up seven strikeouts in the game while issuing three walks. Most of the damage against him was done by Giancarlo Stanton who lined a two-run single to center in the first, and added a mammoth solo homer in the third inning. He finishes one of the most disappointing seasons of his career with an 11-9 record, 4.49 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 156 1/3 innings.

Wed Sep 26 201216:18Halladay (shoulder) cleared to start Saturday
Roy Halladay (shoulder) has been cleared to make his scheduled Saturday start against the Marlins.
Halladay made it through a bullpen session on Wednesday without feeling any lingering discomfort in his throwing shoulder. The right-hander was hammered for seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings against the Braves last time out and is a risky play this weekend vs. the Fish.

Tue Sep 25 201216:00Halladay (shoulder) to throw bullpen Wed.
Roy Halladay (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday.
Halladay was knocked around for seven runs over just 1 2/3 innings Saturday against the Braves and is currently dealing with some tightness in his upper shoulder and shoulder blade, but the Phillies don't intend to shut him down for the season. Assuming his bullpen session goes off without a hitch, he will likely make his final start Saturday against the Marlins.
