Justin Duchscherer had an MRI on his back that showed nothing significant.
Duchscherer, who is on the 15-day disabled list while recovering from a hip injury, had his back lock up on him while he was throwing Wednesday. He'll be shut down for roughly five days before resuming throwing. The O's had been hoping to get him back by late April, but the back injury probably pushes that timetable back.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter was encouraged by Justin Duchscherer's (hip) 40-pitch Friday bullpen session.
"That's the best I've seen him throw," Showalter said. "He had a good face when he was throwing. You could tell he felt good physically, so that's encouraging. We'll see what each day brings." Duchscherer will begin the year on the DL but is hoping to be ready by April 21. "I go day-to-day," he said. "Yeah, there's something out there for me, but right now, I'm just taking it day-by-day. I see how I feel and go from there."

The Orioles are now expecting Justin Duchscherer (hip) to open the season on the disabled list.

Thu Mar 17 201110:39Duchscherer (hip) close to throwing
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Justin Duchscherer (hip) is a day or two away from throwing.
Duchscherer was scratched from an intersquad appearance over the weekend due to discomfort in his surgically-repaired hip, but an MRA on Monday didn't reveal anything out of the ordinary. He's thrown just two innings this spring, so it's increasingly likely that he won't be ready for Opening Day. Chris Tillman and Zach Britton are possibilities to replace him.

An MRA taken of Justin Duchscherer's hip Monday showed nothing out of the ordinary.
Duchscherer was scratched from a scheduled intrasquad appearance over the weekend after complaining of discomfort in his surgically-repaired hip and the Orioles wanted to make sure there was nothing structurally wrong. The right-hander should be cleared to resume throwing shortly, though his status for Opening Day remains up in the air.

Mon Mar 14 201111:21Duchscherer to get MRA on hip Monday
Justin Duchscherer will undergo an MRA on his sore left hip Monday afternoon.
An MRA is fairly similar to an MRI, but it's also slightly different in that it involves the injection of dye into the bloodstream to help in areas of the body that don't always give clear readings. Duchscherer has been feeling discomfort in his surgically-repaired hip for the last couple of weeks and is hoping to get some answers from the test results.

Sun Mar 13 201110:50Duchscherer scratched after hip flares up
Justin Duchscherer was scratched from his intrasquad game Sunday after his hip began bothering him when he was warming up on flat ground.
Here we go again. Just when it seemed as though Duchscherer had made some real progress, he's had yet another setback. He's almost surely not going to be ready by Opening Day now, and it's hard to see the hip issues going away anytime soon. The talented but injury-prone right-hander just can't stay out of the trainer's room.

Wed Mar 9 201111:58Duchscherer (hip) to pitch in intersquad game
Justin Duchscherer (hip) is scheduled to throw three innings in an intersquad game Sunday.
Duchscherer had a bit of a scare with his hip last weekend, but tossed two scoreless innings in his spring debut Tuesday against the Phillies. There isn't much significance to the intersquad game, as Orioles manager Buck Showalter doesn't want Brian Matusz to pitch in relief again, so this is a way to keep both pitchers on turn.

Sat Mar 5 201113:04Duchscherer pleased with throwing Saturday
Justin Duchscherer (hip) fared well in a 25-pitch live batting practice Saturday and will likely pitch in relief Tuesday after Brian Matusz.
The batting practice session came after a bullpen session, and afterwards Duchscherer was "all smiles," according to the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I felt fine out there," Duchscherer said. "I felt fine last time I threw. I actually felt better this time than the last time I threw. I will know more tomorrow. Basically, I just have to see how it responds." It's another good sign after the right-hander was feeling down in the dumps following some soreness in his surgically-repaired hip.

Excellent news. Duchscherer gave everyone quite a scare after reporting discomfort in his surgically-repaired hip over the weekend, but he appears to be OK for now. The next step will be for him to get back on a mound. It's not clear when that will take place.
