Tue Jun 14 2011 | 03:22 | Owings earns third win in relief |
Micah Owings tossed 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball to grab a win over the Marlins on Monday. |
With Arizona staked to a 9-0 lead in the third inning, Owings could not have imagined that he would win this game in middle relief. But after starter Zach Duke relinquished most of the lead by the middle of the fifth inning, Owings entered and shut the door on the Marlins' comeback. The former starter has never been able to match his rookie season numbers. But sporting a 1.83 ERA in his new relief role, the Owings has never looked better. |

Sun May 22 2011 | 01:48 | Micah Owings gives up four runs in return |
Making his season debut, Micah Owings yielded four runs -- three earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Twins. |
Owings is too prone to the home run ball to succeed in a park like Chase Field, and he gave up two to the punchless Twins tonight. NL-only leaguers should stay away. |

As expected, Owings will return to the D-Backs for Saturday's start against the Twins. The 28-year-old right-hander has a 5.11 ERA over 64 major league starts and 35 relief appearances. He'll take the place of Armando Galarraga in the starting rotation, but we're not expecting much. |

Fri May 20 2011 | 21:36 | Owings to start Saturday vs. Twins |
Micah Owings will be called up to start Saturday against the Twins. |
He'll replace Armando Galarraga, who was designated for assignment earlier this week. He has a 5.11 ERA in the big leagues, so don't go crazy to pick him up, even with the favorable first matchup. |

Wed Mar 2 2011 | 23:30 | Owings strikes out side against Giants |
Micah Owings struck out the side in the third inning Wednesday against the Giants. |
It was his only inning and he did exceptionally well, but Owings allowed four runs in less than an inning last weekend and has a ton of proving to do before the spring is through. The D'Backs are hoping that they can use him as a hybrid pinch-hitter/reliever this season. |

Micah Owings gave up four runs while getting just one out in the seventh inning Saturday against the Rockies. |
The Diamondbacks want to see Owings make the team as a reliever/pinch-hitter/backup first baseman. However, it's not going to happen if he can't provide decent results on the mound. This isn't a good first step. |
Mon Jan 24 2011 | 16:33 | D-Backs sign RHP Owings to minors deal |
Diamondbacks signed RHP Micah Owings to a minor league contract. |
He'll also get an invite to spring training. Of course, Owings was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in 2005 and posted a 4.97 ERA over 45 starts and six relief appearances with the club before he was dealt to the Reds in the Adam Dunn deal. Owings, now 28, had a 5.40 ERA and 35/25 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings last season. The good news is that the Diamondbacks plan to give him a look at first base, in addition to the mound. About time. |
