Tim Stauffer has indicated that he'll likely undergo surgery on his right elbow. |
An MRI didn't show any structural damage, but Stauffer is resigned to the fact that exploratory surgery is "probably the next step... open it up and see what's going on. I'm not expecting it to be a ligament. It could be something very minor that's throwing everything off, or it could be more than that. We really won't know until we go in there and take a look." Stauffer has already been ruled out for the season, as he wound up making just one start for the Padres this year due to elbow and shoulder woes. He could be non-tendered this winter. |

Sun May 13 2012 | 23:58 | Padres activate Stauffer for Monday start |
Padres activated RHP Tim Stauffer from the 15-day disabled list. |
Stauffer will make his season debut against Ross Detwiler and the Nationals on Monday. The 29-year-old suffered a strained right elbow during the last week of the spring and has been shelved since. He went 9-12 with a 3.73 ERA in 31 outings last season. Stauffer was very effective in his rehab outings and very well may be a mixed league mainstay later this season. For now, however, we wouldn't use him outside of NL-only leagues until he proves he's healthy and effective. Owners in deeper leagues will want to grab Stauffer where he's available because of the streaming possibilities he presents. He and PETCO are a formidable duo when Stauffer is on his game. |
