Wed Apr 6 201118:15Dodgers' Blake goes 2-for-3 in return
Casey Blake went 2-for-3 Wednesday against the Rockies in his first game back from the disabled list.
The Dodgers inserted Blake into the No. 2 spot in the lineup, and he did well, collecting an RBI triple and scoring in the second inning. For fantasy purposes at least, he ranks as one of the NL's weakest starting third basemen. It would help things, though, if the Dodgers keep batting him second.

Dodgers activated 3B Casey Blake from the 15-day disabled list.
As expected. Blake began the season on the disabled list due to some inflammation in his lower back, but he was able to return on the first day he was eligible. With Blake back in action, Juan Uribe will shift over to second base.

The Dodgers plan to activate Casey Blake (back) from the disabled list Wednesday.
The 37-year-old has been playing in minor league games and has felt good. He originally wasn't supposed to be activated until Friday, but evidently the lobbying Blake did worked. Juan Uribe will shift over to second base with Blake back.

Sun Apr 3 201122:24Blake (back) wants to be activated Thursday
Casey Blake (back) is attempting to talk the Dodgers into activating him from the disabled list for Thursday's game in Colorado.
That's the day he's eligible for activation. The 37-year-old third baseman is already playing in minor league games, so he's not far away. "It sounds like he's ready," said manager Don Mattingly. "He feels there's nothing more to do. We'll see. We're thinking about it. The only thing I'm uncomfortable with is three days without playing. Off-days in the middle of the season, guys come back fine. Off early in the season, sometimes you don't."

Mon Mar 21 201116:14Blake (back) expected to begin year on DL
Casey Blake (back) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.
"Yeah, we are definitely moving in that direction," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "I know guys start thinking about Opening Day and [how] they want to be ready, and they do stuff and they tell you stuff to get to Opening Day. I would rather have him miss [the first] five, seven or 10 days and then have him healthy for the rest of the year instead of trying to [bring him back] on Opening Day when he's not ready to go and not 100-percent healthy." Blake is still waiting to the inflammation in his thoracic-spine region to heal, so he's unlikely to get in another spring game. Juan Uribe should slide over to play third base during his absence while Jamey Carroll will play second base. Carroll is battling a finger injury right now, so if he's not ready to go, it could be Aaron Miles at second base on Opening Day.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly acknowledged Friday that Casey Blake (back) might open the year on the DL.
Blake has been battling soreness in his lower back for over a week now and a cortisone injection administered Wednesday apparently didn't solve the issue. Juan Uribe would probably slide to third base and Jamey Carroll would take over at second if the veteran Blake is indeed placed on the 15-day disabled list when camp breaks.

Thu Mar 17 201112:58Blake receives injection for back injury
Casey Blake received an injection in his lower back on Wednesday.
Blake underwent an MRI earlier this week which revealed inflammation in his lower thoracic-spine region. He was expected to miss "minimal time," but we'll have to see how he responds to the injection. If he starts the season on the DL, it's possible Juan Uribe will fill in at third and Jamey Carroll will play second base.

Wed Mar 16 201110:54Blake (back) expected to miss minimal time
Tony Jackson of ESPN Los Angeles writes that Casey Blake (back) is expected to miss "minimal time."
Blake underwent an MRI on Monday, which revealed nothing more serious than inflammation in his lower thoracic-spine region. He has reported at least some improvement each day since initially suffering the injury on Saturday. While the diagnosis is promising, keep in mind that the 37-year-old third baseman dealt with back problems last season, as well.
