Brandon Wood went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and an error in the field in the Angels' 9-4 loss to the Athletics on Sunday.

New season, same Brandon Wood. The game didn't end in a close score, but Wood's error with two outs in the eighth broke a 4-4 tie and jump-started a three-run inning for the A's. Wood is now 1-for-19 with seven strikeouts and no walks. Maicer Izturis is far from a poor option at the hot corner, so Wood needs to avoid an extended poor showing to keep the lion's share of the starts at third base.

It's hard to believe the Angels have gone three straight games against right-handers without giving Maicer Izturis a start. It seems like a given that Izturis will be in there Thursday, probably in Wood's place. Wood is the starter, but if he expects to play six times a week, he needs to earn it.
