Sun Jul 25 201011:59Rangers "coming hard" after Cantu
The Rangers are "coming hard" for Jorge Cantu, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
This confirms what MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reported Saturday. The Rangers would love to add a right-handed bat of Cantu's caliber, however, the Marlins aren't convinced they should be sellers at the deadline. But even if they aren't going to be all-out sellers, Cantu still could be moved, as the team thinks Logan Morrison could replace Cantu's production. Rosenthal's source says Leo Nunez and Ricky Nolasco will not be dealt, while Dan Uggla and Cody Ross are unlikely to be traded.

Sun Jul 25 201000:15Rangers making push for Jorge Cantu
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that the Rangers "are trying to make a strong push" for Marlins infielder Jorge Cantu.
The Rangers are on the hunt for a reliable right-handed bat, and Cantu certainly fits that bill. He's hit 10 home runs this season and collected 54 RBI in 362 at-bats. Because he is owed only about $2.5 million for the rest of 2010, the Rangers should be able to fit him into their budget.
Wed Jul 21 201011:13Angels dicussing Cantu and LaRoche
Sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that the Angels have discussed Jorge Cantu of the Marlins and Adam LaRoche of the Diamondbacks.
They could both be used at first base, but according to Rosenthal, the Angels are concerned about the players changing leagues. With that in mind, they have Royals' switch-hitter Alberto Callaspo on their "short-list." Callaspo is no Adam Dunn or Prince Fielder, but as Rosenthal writes, he may be the best they can do.

Fri Jul 16 201016:54Marlins remove Cantu from cleanup spot
Jorge Cantu has been dropped from fourth to fifth behind Dan Uggla in Friday's lineup.
Only a couple of months overdue. Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez weighed making some big changes to his lineup to start the second half, but this is the only one he implemented tonight. It's good news for Uggla's value that he'll no longer have to bat behind such a poor OBP guy.

Fri Jul 9 201001:08Marlins' Cantu goes hitless in loss
Jorge Cantu went 0-for-4 in Thursday's loss and is 3-for-23 so far this month.
Cantu had a great first two weeks, but he really hasn't been any good since and the Marlins should have moved him out of the cleanup spot long ago. They feel he has a real knack for driving in runs, but he has a bigger one for making lots and lots of outs.
Mon Jul 5 201018:27Cantu out of Monday's lineup
Jorge Cantu is out of the starting lineup against the Dodgers on Monday night.
Wes Helms will start at the hot corner and bat sixth against right-hander John Ely.

Wed Jun 23 201023:03Cantu gets back on track
Jorge Cantu helped make Edwin Rodriguez a winner in his interim managerial debut by going 2-for-5 with a two-run home run on Wednesday.
After piling up 23 RBI in April alone, Cantu now has just 25 RBIs in May and June combined. Somewhere in the middle is where he'll settle for the rest of the season. And with multi-position eligibility in most leagues, owners could be doing much worse.
Wed Apr 28 201015:30Marlins' Cantu knocks in two runs
Jorge Cantu had a solo homer and a sac fly on Wednesday to give him 22 RBI after 22 games.
Cantu has cooled off a bunch since driving in a run in 10 straight games to open the season, but he's still had a really nice April. He's picked up a hit in 21 of the Marlins' 22 games too date.
Wed Apr 14 201022:27Cantu hits another homer
Jorge Cantu went 1-for-4 with a home run on Wednesday and now has a hit in each of his nine games this season.
Cantu is hitting a pedestrian .297 during the steak, but he trails only Albert Pujols for the major league lead in RBI with 14. Look for Cantu's home run rate to trail off while the RBI totals stay solid.
Sun Apr 11 201016:27Cantu homers, drives in five in Marlins' win
Jorge Cantu homered and drove in five runs as the Marlins defeated the Dodgers 6-5 on Sunday.
Cantu belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning, then added a two-run double to put the Marlins ahead 6-5 in the seventh. The five RBI give him a total of 10 on the season, at least temporarily tying him with Ryan Howard for the major league lead through the first week of games.
Sat Apr 10 201022:46Cantu's sac fly helps Marlins to win over LA
Jorge Cantu hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday as the Marlins topped the Dodgers 7-6.
Florida rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a Chris Coghlan walk and Ronny Paulino double. Cantu finished 1-for-4 and is batting .286 on the year with five RBI and two runs scored.
