Mark Prior (groin) is scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday.
Prior has been on Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's disabled list since mid-April with a strained groin. There's no timetable for his return, though the Yankees should have a better idea after Saturday's session.

Updating a previous item, Mark Prior did not undergo hernia surgery on Thursday.
Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reported incorrect information on Thursday evening. The 30-year-old Prior is still rehabbing from a strained groin and is not expected to resume throwing in minor league games for another couple of weeks.

Thu Jun 9 201117:25Prior undergoes hernia surgery
Mark Prior has been placed on the minor league disabled list following hernia surgery.
Prior will be out for at least a month while in recovery mode. The 30-year-old right-hander has pitched just four minor league innings this season and seems unlikely to climb back to the majors this year.

Wed Apr 20 201113:49Prior placed on DL with strained groin
Updating a previous item, Mark Prior was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a strained groin.
Well, that's a relief. Yankees senior vice president of baseball operations Mark Newman said the injury is not considered serious, so Prior's comeback attempt should resume rather quickly.

Mon Apr 11 201109:23Prior throws two scoreless frames at Single-A
Mark Prior made two scoreless relief appearances this weekend at Single-A Tampa.
Prior is continuing to build arm strength at extended spring training. With a few more scoreless appearances, he may be cleared to begin climbing his way up the Yankees' minor league ranks. The veteran right-hander is hoping to eventually land back in the big leagues.

Mon Mar 28 201118:17Prior to work in extended spring training
Mark Prior is expected to stay back in Tampa to participate in extended spring training.
Prior, a non-roster invitee, has exceeded all expectations this spring by posting a 1.17 ERA and 11/5 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings. We're not banking on anything given his injury history, but this remains an interesting comeback story to follow.

Sat Mar 26 201116:20Yankees' Prior pitches hitless inning
Mark Prior worked a hitless inning Saturday, lowering his spring ERA to 1.17.
Prior has done everything he can to win a spot in the Yankee bullpen, but his only chance hinges on a DL assignment for Pedro Feliciano. Even then, the Yankees may choose to send him down rather than add him to the 40-man roster for just a couple of weeks.

Mon Mar 14 201122:39Prior skips trip due to illness
Mark Prior didn't make the trip with the team Monday due to illness.
He should be back within the next day or so. Prior has allowed three runs -- one earned -- over 3 2/3 innings of work this spring. The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to begin the year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Thu Mar 10 201116:27Prior struggles versus Phillies
Mark Prior had his first rough outing of the spring Thursday, allowing three runs -- one earned -- in two-thirds of an inning against the Phillies.
Prior, who had allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings, retired just two of the six batters he faced today, though he wasn't helped by a Justin Maxwell error. He was probably Triple-A bound regardless of how he performed this spring, but another outing like this could hasten his departure.

Tue Feb 22 201109:06Prior throws BP, attracts an audience
Mark Prior threw batting practice on Tuesday morning in Yankees camp.
It would be foolish to make any sort of judgments after a mid-February throwing session, but Prior looked good and attracted a big audience. The right-hander inked a minor league contract with the Yankees this winter and is hoping to land a spot in the big league bullpen this spring. The Yanks are strictly viewing him as a relief option, not a rotation candidate.

Wed Dec 15 201016:51Yanks ink Mark Prior to minor league contract
Yankees signed RHP Mark Prior to a minor league contract.
The deal is worth $750,000 and also includes an invitation to spring training. Prior hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2006 and would have to put on a real show at spring training for the Yankees to consider him for an Opening Day roster spot, but it's a fine low-risk signing.
Tue Dec 14 201019:44Prior willing to go to minors with Yankees
Tom Krasovic of AOL Fanhouse reports that Mark Prior will earn a base salary of $750,000 if he makes the Yankees.
Prior will get a big league spring training invite, though he is willing to go to the minor leagues. If he makes the team, he could earn an additional $750,000 based on innings pitched. Prior hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2006, so we're not expecting much, but there's very little risk involved here on the part of the Yankees.

Tue Dec 14 201018:02Yanks sign Mark Prior to minor league deal
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Yankees have signed Mark Prior to a minor league contract.
He's no Cliff Lee, but there you go. Prior, now 30 years old, hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2006, but began a comeback this past season, even pitching a scoreless inning with Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Rangers' organization. We're not getting our hopes up, but Prior hopes to return to the big leagues in a relief role.

Tue Dec 7 201022:26Prior to sign with Yankees or Rangers
According to Tom Krasovic of AOL Fanhouse, Mark Prior will sign a minor league contract with either the Rangers or Yankees.
Prior signed a minor league contract with the Rangers towards the end of the 2010 season and pitched one scoreless inning with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The now 30-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2006, but hopes to resurrect his career as a relief pitcher.

Wed Dec 1 201014:09Rangers have 'some interest' in Mark Prior
Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas reports that the Rangers have shown "some interest" in re-signing free agent right-hander Mark Prior.
The former prospect inked a deal with the Rangers at the end of the 2010 season and pitched one inning at Triple-A Oklahoma City. While nobody expects him to fully right the ship, he's shown decent velocity in recent throwing sessions and could provide organizational depth during 2011.

Sun Nov 21 201008:30Prior choosing between three teams
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Mark Prior will make a decision between three teams on who to sign with.
The three teams haven't been identified. Prior tossed a scoreless inning for the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate in September after not giving up any earned runs over 11 innings for the independent Orange County Flyers. Prior has spent three years overcoming a torn labrum and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006, but his velocity is reported back up to the low 90s. It would be a great story to see him in the majors again, but it's certainly no guarantee.

Mon Sep 6 201010:47Prior pitches scoreless inning in AAA debut
Mark Prior pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two batters Sunday in his debut for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Not bad. Not bad at all. Prior inked a minor league contract with the Rangers a few days ago after allowing only one unearned run over 11 innings for the independent Orange County Flyers. He has a long road back to the majors, but the 29-year-old is off to a decent enough start.

Fri Sep 3 201017:34Rangers agree to minor league deal with Prior
The Rangers and Mark Prior have reportedly come to terms on a minor league deal.
Prior isn't expected to join the Rangers this month, and we're not sure whether the deal includes any provisions for 2011. Perhaps Prior wanted to pitch under a major league team's supervision in the fall instructional league. Prior had allowed one unearned run over 11 innings for the Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League. He gave up five hits, walked five and struck out 22.

Tue Aug 3 201019:05Mark Prior signs with Orange County Flyers
Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that Mark Prior has signed with the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League.
Prior threw in front of an estimated 15 major league teams at USC in late June, but any interested parties will want to see him in game action first. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2006, so we're hardly holding our breath for his next opportunity.

Mon Jul 12 201023:24O's have interest in Mark Prior
According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, the Orioles have interest in Mark Prior.
The O's sent scout Mark Ralston to watch Prior throw for major league teams on June 30, but they believe that he prefers to remain on the West Coast. That may be true, but he can hardly afford to pick and choose his next opportunity given the fact that he hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2006.
