Thu Oct 6 201109:19Laurence Maroney tries out for Redskins
Free agent RB Laurence Maroney worked out for the Redskins this week.
This is the first sniff we've heard of Maroney even getting a workout since the season started. The Redskins are obviously just updating their emergency list as their backfield is already crowded.

Wed Sep 21 201117:53Laurence Maroney not getting any calls
Free agent Laurence Maroney has not been invited to a tryout since the regular season began.
Teams are trying out washed-up retreads (Clinton Portis) and undrafted rookie practice squad types (Chase Reynolds), but they're not calling Maroney. The 26-year-old Maroney was recently cleared in connection with a misdemeanor marijuana charge. Maroney was the 21st overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft.

Mon Apr 25 201115:03Peter King: Maroney wasn't a devoted player
SI's Peter King says that former first-round pick Laurence Maroney failed due to a lack of passion for the game.
The Patriots drafted Maroney 21st overall in 2006. "I think they got bad advice on Laurence Maroney," King says. "Guys on the coaching staff at Minnesota overinflated Maroney, and the Patriots blew that pick. He's not a blood-and-guts football player. He never was. And the Patriots made a mistake." King also suggested that New England's intel on Mark Ingram from Nick Saban would go a long way toward instilling confidence in Bill Belichick.

Mon Apr 4 201110:19Maroney may not land with a team?
ESPN's Mike Reiss suggests that free agent Laurence Maroney "could have trouble making a roster next season."
Maroney averaged just 2.1 yards per carry for the Broncos last season and got slapped with a marijuana charge this offseason. The former first-round pick is always intriguing, but may have to wait for an injury in training camp to get another chance.

Thu Mar 31 201119:57Maroney charged with marijuana possession
Free agent Laurence Maroney has reportedly been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession for his arrest back in January.
Maroney appeared to have escaped charges for the incident in St. Louis when he was found with marijuana and a handgun at a traffic stop. He had a permit for the gun, but there's no doctor's note for the pot. His game tape will be a bigger free-agent millstone than this misdemeanor charge.

Thu Mar 3 201114:44Maroney fails to draw tender from Broncos
The Broncos failed to extend a tender to potential restricted free agent Laurence Maroney.
Yet another draft pick wasted by Josh McDaniels. Battling injuries through the season, Maroney averaged a woeful 2.1 yards on just 36 carries with Denver last season. Between the declining production, injuries, a reputation for dancing at the line, and a January marijuana arrest, Maroney may struggle to land on a roster in early September.

Tue Jan 18 201112:05Report: Maroney released, not charged
Updating an earlier item, TMZ.com reports that Laurence Maroney was arrested for possession of marijuana and unlawful use of a weapon Monday night, but Maroney's rep says he has been released and not charged with a crime.
"Mr. Maroney was unlawfully arrested for possession of weapons. He holds a permit to carry a concealed weapon and he had his permit on his person when he was arrested. He was not arrested for any drugs nor was he involved in a high speed chase. He was released without being charged with any offense and we do not anticipate he will be charged with any criminal offense." We'll update this if more unfolds, but it sounds like Maroney has somehow dodged a bullet here, no pun intended.

Tue Jan 18 201108:33Maroney arrested on weapons, drugs charges
Laurence Maroney was arrested late Monday night and is being held on unlawful weapons charges and drug charges.
There are few details available at this time, but we know that Maroney was in a car with three other men when the police pulled them over. Maroney's rookie contract expires this offseason, and he's not off to a good start if he's intending to catch on somewhere else with hopes of getting real playing time. We'll update this story as more facts become available.

Sun Nov 28 201015:02Broncos declare inactives for Week 12
Broncos declared RB Laurence Maroney, third QB Brady Quinn, CB Andre' Goodman, S Darcel McBath, WR Demaryius Thomas, LB David Veikune, C Eric Olsen, and OG Stanley Daniels inactive for Week 12.
Thomas is believed to have a high ankle sprain. Perrish Cox gets another start at right corner with Goodman out. There are no other surprises here.
Sun Nov 14 201014:49Broncos declare inactives
Broncos declared RB Laurence Maroney, third QB Brady Quinn, CB Andre' Goodman, CB Cassius Vaughn, LB Robert Ayers, LB Kevin Alexander, OG Stanley Daniels, and G/C Eric Olsen inactive for Week 10.
Perrish Cox gets the nod at right corner, opposite Champ Bailey. Maroney has plummeted down the depth chart, and at this point even appears to be behind Lance Ball. Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter are also ahead of him.
Sun Oct 17 201020:00Maroney struggles again
Laurence Maroney rushed seven times for 18 yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets.
Maroney only got carries because Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) clearly wasn't 100 percent. Regardless, Maroney is a disaster behind this offensive line. He's waiver wire fodder. The same can be said for Correll Buckhalter (six rushes, 20 yards).
Sun Oct 10 201016:19Maroney struggles again
Laurence Maroney rushed six times for 27 yards in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
Maroney rotated pretty evenly with Correll Buckhalter out. Neither should sniff the field once Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) gets healthy. Feel free to dump Maroney.
Thu Sep 30 201013:29Maroney expected to start in Week 4
The Denver Post's Lindsay Jones expects Laurence Maroney to start and handle early-down work against the Titans this week.
Correll Buckhalter is expected to be used on third downs and in "special packages," but Maroney will lead the backfield in touches. Underwhelming as a runner last week, Maroney is a mere RB2/flex option against Tennessee's No. 17 run defense.

Sun Sep 26 201019:52Maroney held to just 64 total yards, no TDs
Laurence Maroney had just 24 yards on 12 carries, and caught two balls for 40 yards in a Week 3 loss to the Colts.
Maroney got the start, but showed why he never ran away with his opportunity in New England. The Broncos understood that they weren't going to win on the shoulders of Maroney, and had Kyle Orton attempt 57 passes. Maroney was given three chances to punch the ball in from inside the 5-yard line on a 2nd quarter drive, and failed to convert. He should still be owned in Knowshon Moreno's absence, but you'd be hard pressed to put him in your starting lineup.
Fri Sep 24 201019:09Maroney to be Broncos' primary back?
NFL Network's Mike Lombardi predicted on Total Access Friday that Laurence Maroney will be the Broncos' primary back with Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) sidelined.
Lombardi, who's close to people in the Denver organization, conceded that Correll Buckhalter "will be involved," but made it sound like Maroney has a very good chance to immediately take over as the lead back. The Colts' defense is not stout against the run, so Maroney is worth flex consideration because of the matchup. He is over his previous thigh injury.
Thu Sep 23 201018:02Maroney resumes practicing fully
Laurence Maroney (thigh) has resumed practicing fully for the Broncos.
Bad news for Correll Buckhalter. While Maroney isn't guaranteed to see game action this week, it may be only a matter of time before he begins to eat into Buckhalter's snaps behind Knowshon Moreno.

Sun Sep 19 201014:54Broncos declare inactives for Sunday
Broncos declared third QB Brady Quinn, RB Laurence Maroney, T Ryan Harris, G Chris Kuper, S Darcel McBath, LB Wesley Woodyard, CB SydQuan Thompson, and OT Chris Clark inactive for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Maroney was ruled out earlier this week. Kuper was listed as questionable heading into the game with a knee injury.
Fri Sep 17 201017:22Laurence Maroney ruled out
Broncos RB Laurence Maroney (thigh) has been ruled out for Week 2.
Correll Buckhalter will back up Knowshon Moreno against the Seahawks.
Thu Sep 16 201015:18Maroney held out of practice again
Laurence Maroney (thigh) missed practice for a second straight day Thursday.
Coach Josh McDaniel explained only that "Maroney has a thigh." Thank you, Al Michaels. The injury may be the same one labeled as a groin issue when he missed time with the Patriots last week. Don't expect him to suit up on Sunday versus the Seahawks.
