Mon Jul 15 201308:18Veteran QB Rosenfels announces retirement
Ex-Dolphins and Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels has announced his retirement.
A 2001 fourth-round pick of the Redskins, Rosenfels couldn't make it out of camp with the Vikings last season. Rosenfels appeared in 45 career games, but made just 12 starts. He was the definition of a career backup. He hangs it up with an 81.2 QB rating, 62.5 completion percentage and 30:29 TD:INT ratio to his name.

Fri Aug 31 201220:24Vikings release QB Sage Rosenfels
Vikings released QB Sage Rosenfels.
It's a surprise because the Vikes guaranteed $500,000 of Rosenfels' salary upon re-signing him to a two-year deal in March. UDFA McLeod Bethel-Thompson has a chance to stick as the No. 3 quarterback.

Mon Mar 12 201214:50Vikes bring back Sage Rosenfels
Vikings agreed to terms with QB Sage Rosenfels on an undisclosed contract.
It's likely a non-guaranteed, one-year pact after the Vikings claimed Rosenfels off waivers in December. A career clipboard holder, Rosenfels recently celebrated his 34th birthday, and has attempted zero passes since the end of the 2009 season. He'll provide veteran insurance behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb.

Wed Mar 7 201212:48Report: Vikes, Rosenfels have mutual interest
The Vikings and free agent QB Sage Rosenfels reportedly have mutual interest in a new contract.
There was once a time where Rosenfels had a legitimate claim as one of the top-32 QBs in the league, but he hasn't thrown a regular-season pass since 2008. He'll slot in behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb if he re-signs with the Vikes.

Thu Dec 29 201121:51Vikes want Rosenfels back in 2012
The Vikings have informed impending free agent Sage Rosenfels that they want him back for the 2012 season.
Rosenfels would mentor Christian Ponder while also allowing the Vikings to get more creative in their experimenting with wild card weapon Joe Webb. At age 33, Rosenfels would likely be limited to clipboard holding with the Vikes.

Fri Dec 2 201116:08Vikings claim QB Rosenfels off waivers
Vikings claimed QB Sage Rosenfels off waivers from the Dolphins.
Rosenfels spent 2009 in Minnesota, but he's being claimed as a backup more because Joe Webb appears to be moving to wideout. Rosenfels should soon claim the No. 2 quarterback job behind rookie starter Christian Ponder. The Texans were rumored to have some interest in Rosenfels, but the Vikings had a higher waiver priority. Houston will move forward with T.J. Yates and Jake Delhomme.

Fri Dec 2 201112:14Report: Texans not interested in Rosenfels
The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports the Texans have no interest in QB Sage Rosenfels, waived by the Dolphins on Thursday.
"[Coach Gary] Kubiak likes T.J. Yates," McClain offers by way of explanation. Kubiak is also comfortable with Jake Delhomme as the No. 2 QB because he's thrown well, picked up the offense quickly, and already embraced a mentoring role with Yates. Kubiak may revisit the issue in a couple of weeks if Yates falls flat on his face against two contenders the next two weeks.

Thu Dec 1 201118:06Schefter: Rosenfels' mystery illness was mono
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Sage Rosenfels is healthy, and that the mystery illness that landed him on the non-football illness list before his release was mono.
Rosenfels' player rep Rick Smith has also confirmed he's back to full health. Yahoo Sports' Mike Silver lists the Vikings, Cowboys, Titans and Bears as teams who might have interest in Rosenfels, but believes he'll most likely clear waivers, allowing him to sign with whomever he wants beginning on Monday.

Thu Dec 1 201117:03Fins release QB Sage Rosenfels after all
Dolphins waived QB Sage Rosenfels from the non-football illness list.
The Texans are reportedly content with their three quarterbacks, but that will be tested with Rosenfels now available for the price of a waiver claim. Rosenfels has three years of experience in coach Gary Kubiak's offense and would be an immediate upgrade on rookie T.J. Yates if he's over the mysterious blood infection that sent him to the NFI list in late October.

Mon Nov 28 201117:56Report: Fins to keep Rosenfels from Texans
NFL.com's Jason La Canfora reports that the Dolphins will not release Sage Rosenfels from the non/football illness list.
The Texans were going to have interest in Rosenfels if the Fins waived him, but after a Monday meeting between Rosenfels and Dolphins brass, Miami has decided to keep him on the NFI list. It's unclear if Rosenfels, who's been dealing with a mysterious blood infection, would have been healthy enough to play anyway. The Texans will move forward with T.J. Yates as their starting quarterback. Kellen Clemens is currently No. 2 on the depth chart.

Mon Nov 28 201109:43Sage Rosenfels making his way to Houston?
The Dolphins will reportedly release Sage Rosenfels (reserve/non-football illness list) so he can sign with the Texans.
Rosenfels has been hampered by a mysterious blood infection while with the Giants and Dolphins this season. If healthy, he'd certainly be an asset to a Texans team that has lost starter Matt Schaub (foot) and backup Matt Leinart (collarbone). Rosenfels spent three seasons with the Texans, starting 10 games between 2006 and 2008. Note that he'd be subject to waivers if the Dolphins do elect to release him. Regardless, T.J. Yates is locked in as the Texans' starter for the immediate future.

Tue Oct 25 201114:44Dolphins lose QB Rosenfels for the season
Dolphins placed QB Sage Rosenfels (back) on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list, ending his season.
There are no details on Rosenfels' injury just yet, though we suspect it involves a recurrence of his early-season back troubles. With Matt Moore battling bruised ribs, perhaps the Dolphins were forced to add a healthy quarterback. Rosenfels will be a free agent entering his age-33 season in 2012.

Thu Oct 6 201112:54Dolphins sign Sage Rosenfels
Dolphins signed QB Sage Rosenfels to a one-year contract.
Rosenfels passed his physical and will now presumably slot in behind Matt Moore. He's 33, but brings 10 years of NFL experience and 12 career starts to the table. Jake Delhomme wasn't interested in the Dolphins and David Garrard wanted more money than Miami was offering.

Thu Oct 6 201112:34Rosenfels to sign with Dolphins?
The Dolphins are leaning toward signing free agent QB Safe Rosenfels, according to multiple reports.
Rosenfels, who was sidelined by a mysterious blood infection in August, needs to pass a physical. If he can do that, he'll likely be signed to compete with Matt Moore. We'd still expect Moore to get the first crack at running with the job -- the Dolphins handed him a two-year contract in July for a reason.

Free agent Sage Rosenfels (illness, back) has been medically cleared.
Rosenfels spent most of August in a hospital bed due to a mysterious blood infection. Now healthy, the 33-year-old vet figures to attract attention as a backup. The Dolphins are likely to at least kick the tires.

Tue Oct 4 201119:46Giants release QB Rosenfels from I.R.
Giants released QB Sage Rosenfels (back) from injured reserve.
Rosenfels was placed on I.R. at cut-down time due to back problems and a bout with strep throat. He's now free to sign elsewhere and should garner interest as a quality backup as long as he's healthy. The New York Daily News noted last week that Rosenfels was running laps around the practice field, so the back injury doesn't appear to be serious.

Sat Sep 3 201120:05Rosenfels lands on injured reserve
Giants placed QB Sage Rosenfels (back) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The move restores David Carr as Eli Manning's primary backup after a one-year hiatus (Carr played for the 49ers in 2010). Rosenfels was only active for the Giants' preseason opener, completing 13-of-19 passes for 129 yards.

Sun Aug 21 201112:51Rosenfels to sit out on Monday
Sage Rosenfels (illness) is not expected to play in New York's Monday evening preseason game.
Competing with David Carr to be Eli Manning's primary backup, Rosenfels was actually forced to spend three days in the hospital last week with a "severe throat infection." Rosenfels completed 13-of-19 passes for 129 yards in New York's preseason opener last Saturday, and should have a leg up on Carr after backing up Manning in 2010.

Thu Sep 2 201018:27Vikes need 'significant' offer for Rosenfels
NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reports that the Vikings will hold onto Sage Rosenfels barring a "significant" trade offer.
Lombardi calls Rosenfels a "valuable commodity" with the Vikings' starter returning from ankle surgery at age 41, and only Tarvaris Jackson between them. If he isn't dealt, Rosenfels will spend the year as the emergency No. 3.
