The move leaves New England with one healthy tight end on the active roster, so look for a corresponding tight end pickup before Sunday. Gronkowski played sparingly in the first two games, seeing 27 percent of the Pats' offensive snaps. Beat writers believe Garrett Mills will be signed from the practice squad.

Tue Sep 6 201114:58Patriots stock up on Gronkowskis
Patriots agreed to terms with TE Dan Gronkowski, formerly of the Broncos.
Double Gronk power in New England. Dan is more of a blocking specialist than his phenom brother Rob, managing just eight catches for 65 yards in 12 games last season. Rob is locked in as an every-down tight end with Aaron Hernandez in the "Joker" role. Dan's snaps will be few and far between.

Mon Dec 6 201014:32Broncos place Gronkowski on I.R.
Broncos placed TE Dan Gronkowski (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Initial X-rays were negative, but a Monday MRI must've shown something more serious. Gronkowski played a significant amount of snaps in his first year as a Bronco, primarily as a blocking tight end with only 64 yards on eight catches. We'd still much rather Alphonso Smith's upside over him.

Sat Sep 4 201015:51Broncos deal for TE Dan Gronkowski
Broncos acquired TE Dan Gronkowski from the Lions in exchange for CB Alphonso Smith.
The Broncos needed a pass-catching tight end to complement Daniel Graham after losing Marquez Branson to injury. We're just not sure Gronkowski fits the bill. A seventh-round pick in 2009, the workout warrior spent the majority of the season on the Lions' practice squad.
