Mon Sep 3 201213:12Cards release Bartel with injury settlement
Cardinals released QB Richard Bartel with an injury settlement.
Bartel was placed on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in Thursday's preseason finale, but will now be free to sign with any club once he's healthy. A journeyman veteran, it bodes extremely poorly for Bartel's future that he's getting cut loose from a team with the league's worst quarterback situation.

Fri Aug 31 201219:56Richard Bartel lands on injured reserve
Cardinals placed QB Richard Bartel (shoulder) and RB Javarris James (torn ACL) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
Bartel went down in Thursday's preseason finale, and almost certainly would have been released if not for his injury. A restricted free agent in the offseason, Bartel will likely be non-tendered.

Sat Mar 10 201218:50Cardinals make exclusive rights offers
Cardinals offered contracts to QB Rich Bartel, RB Alfonso Smith, DE Ronald Talley and LB Brandon Williams.
All are ''exclusive rights'' free agents and expected to sign. Bartel appeared in two games last season and completed 46-percent of his passes. Smith, 25, spent time between the Cardinals' active roster and practice squad after going undrafted in 2010. Talley and Williams provide organizational depth.

Sun Nov 20 201119:51Richard Bartel comes on for Skelton
In relief of an inept John Skelton, Richard Bartel completed 8-of-16 passes for 64 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the 49ers.
Bartel showed impressive arm strength, somehow getting a 23-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald through two defenders. He also looked comfortable in the pocket, checking down to Early Doucet well. However, the 49ers were in all-out prevent mode by the time Bartel got in the game. It's unclear if he or Skelton will start if Kevin Kolb (toe) can't get back for Week 12.

Fri Sep 2 201101:59Cards QB Bartel continues to shine in finale
Richard Bartel completed 12-of-16 passes for 216 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against the Broncos in the preseason finale.
He can sling it. Bartel finished the preseason an eye-popping 37-of-54 (68.5 percent) for 530 yards (9.8 YPA) and a 5-2 TD-to-INT ratio for a passer rating near 110.0. He's earned the No. 2 job over John Skelton, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

Tue Jun 7 201119:12Bartel a strong candidate for No. 3 QB job
The Arizona Republic considers Richard Bartel a strong contender for the Cardinals' No. 3 QB job this summer.
The Cardinals are expected to trade for a starter, use John Skelton as the No. 2 QB, and stage a battle between Bartel and Max Hall for the third spot. In addition to good size and a strong arm, Bartel displayed plenty of confidence and downfield aggressiveness in a Week 17 appearance. He could end up sending Hall to the practice squad.

Sun Jan 2 201120:20Bartel comes out gunning in one quarter
Coming on in relief of John Skelton, Richard Bartel completed 16-of-28 passes for 150 yards in a Week 17 loss to the 49ers.
Larry Fitzgerald owners wish they had Bartel throwing in Week 16. Bartel amazingly compiled those numbers in a shade more than one quarter of action. He came out firing down field, targeting Fitzgerald on his first three throws while showing no hesitation whatsoever. Bartel put enough on tape to merit a look as a third-stringer in 2011, but he'll have to fight for a roster spot in training camp.

Mon Dec 6 201011:37Cardinals to sign Richard Bartel
The Cardinals will reportedly sign free agent QB Richard Bartel to their active roster this week.
Max Hall is a candidate for I.R. after dislocating his left shoulder in Sunday's loss to St. Louis. Bartel, 27, is a practice-squad type journeyman. He'll be No. 3 on the depth chart behind John Skelton and Derek Anderson.
