Sat Aug 31 201309:51Redskins waive Keiland Williams
Redskins waived RB/FB Keiland Williams and TE Emmanuel Ogbuehi.
Williams was a core special teamer, but didn't offer enough value on offense to be carried over Evan Royster. Williams' release also gives big-play rookie Chris Thompson a chance to make the 53 despite his preseason fumbles.

Redskins signed FB Keiland Williams.
Williams is an upgrade on Ryan Grant thanks to his versatility. He'll help on special teams, can do some lead blocking and can even be a power back in a pinch. Williams knows the scheme after spending the 2010 season in Washington.

Thu Oct 18 201210:24Keiland Williams dumped by the Lions
Lions waived FB Keiland Williams.
Williams had been activated ahead of a healthy Kevin Smith in Week 6, so this is a sign that the staff still has a sliver of faith in Smith. Regardless, a roster spot was needed for secondary help as Bill Bentley (shoulder) and Jacob Lacey (concussion) are both in doubt for Week 7.

Fri Aug 17 201223:44Keiland Williams out-plays Joique Bell
Keiland Williams carried the ball eight times for 27 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Ravens, adding three catches for 26 yards.
Three of Williams' touches came with Matthew Stafford still in the game. Williams' stat-line wasn't as impressive as Joique Bell's, who carried the ball five times for 35 yards while reeling in three catches for 44 yards, but Bell didn't play a down until third-stringer Kellen Moore was in the game. Bell also committed a huge mistake in the fourth, losing a fumble near the goal-line at the end of a 20-yard run. Williams, who has 17 totes for 98 yards this preseason, is ahead of Bell for No. 4 duties. Bell has carried the ball 21 times for 124 yards. Neither player had a catch in the opener.

Sun Dec 11 201118:39Keiland Williams pressed into duty
Keiland Williams rushed 12 times for 43 yards and added two catches for 17 yards in the Lions' Week 14 win over the Vikings.
With Maurice Morris limited severely by a chest injury, Williams handled the feature back job for the majority of three quarters. He got what was blocked, but the 230-pounder has no explosion or burst. Only the most desperate of owners should consider an add heading into next week's game at Oakland. Morris' injury does not appear serious.

Mon Dec 5 201101:15Keiland Williams receives just three touches
Keiland Williams rushed two times for 14 yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints, adding one catch for seven yards.
Williams' limited use is noteworthy because it came on a night where Kevin Smith aggravated his ankle injury early in the second half. Maurice Morris carried the load after Smith went down. Although Williams will undoubtedly be in line for more touches if Smith can't give it a go in Week 14, he's an extremely low-upside flier in all formats.

Thu Nov 24 201116:22Keiland Williams picks up late TD
Keiland Williams rushed two times for 18 yards with a touchdown and added four catches for 33 yards in Thursday's loss to the Packers.
Williams only got significant snaps in this one thanks to Kevin Smith's ankle injury. He tore through a gaping hole in the fourth quarter for a 16-yard score, but played behind Maurice Morris. If Smith's sprain proves to be serious, Williams will function as the power back behind Morris in Week 13.

Sun Oct 23 201117:50Keiland Williams totals 44 yards in Week 7
Keiland Williams rushed nine times for 44 yards against the Falcons in Week 7.
Williams handled feature-back work in the second quarter after Maurice Morris did the same in the first. The two backs essentially split snaps and touches down the middle, though Williams never got a shot at goal-line work. He's not an attractive fantasy option against the Broncos in Week 8.

Wed Oct 19 201116:46Lions likely to resort to committee backfield
Keiland Williams and Maurice Morris shared first-team reps at Lions practice Wednesday.
They're essentially competing for snaps on Sunday with Jahvid Best (concussion) not expected to play. Ronnie Brown hasn't joined practice yet, but is expected to do so Thursday after passing his physical. Morris is slated to draw the start against the Falcons, but he's going to be a timeshare back in Week 7.

Fri Sep 16 201110:14Keiland Williams still learning protections
Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed that RB Keiland Williams is still getting up to speed on "protections and things like that."
"We are getting him up to speed," Schwartz said. "He's doing a lot of different things, including playing fullback on our scout team." Just fourth on the depth chart, Williams was a healthy scratch in Week 1. He's not going to have fantasy value any time soon.

Tue Sep 6 201108:17Williams to be used like Leshoure was?
Phillip Zaroo of MLive.com says the Lions plan to use Keiland Williams in the same "manner" they planned to use Mikel Leshoure (injured reserve, Achilles).
Zaroo notes that the 5'11/230 Williams is almost identical in size to Leshoure. He also points out that Williams ran a 4.52 40-yard dash as LSU's Pro Day in 2010 while Leshoure ran a 4.56 at the combine this year. "He played exclusively as a fullback (in Washington), but we saw him as a runner at LSU. He's a little bit bigger than some of the guys that we have," said coach Jim Schwartz. It appears the Lions are set to use Williams in a short-yardage and maybe even goal-line role.

Sun Sep 4 201117:33Lions claim RB Keiland Williams from Skins
Lions claimed RB Keiland Williams off waivers from the Redskins.
Detroit needed a bigger back to go with Jahvid Best, Jerome Harrison, and Maurice Morris. At 5'11/230, Williams was a better fit than Aaron Brown. Versatility is Williams' calling card, as he can play all three downs in a pinch. His addition won't alter the fantasy value of Best.

Sat Sep 3 201113:06Redskins waive RB Keiland Williams
Redskins waived RB Keiland Williams.
Last year's evidence that any back on a Mike Shanahan roster can emerge with short-term fantasy value, Williams tumbled down the depth chart when the Redskins finally upgraded the backfield talent. The writing was on the wall early in camp when Williams was moved to fullback. He's a fringe NFL talent.

Wed Aug 17 201114:00Keiland Williams working as a fullback-only
Keiland Williams has continued to practice "exclusively" as a fullback at Redskins training camp.
Williams is the No. 2 fullback behind Darrel Young, and looks to be second in line for snaps in third-down situations as well. The Skins like Williams' blitz pickup skills, but don't believe he's a great fit for their one-cut scheme as a rusher. He'd need several injuries to be roster worthy in fantasy leagues.

Fri Jul 29 201117:54Williams taking reps at fullback
Keiland Williams is taking reps at fullback early in Redskins camp.
Williams is a much better blocker than runner, so the apparent position switch makes some sense. In terms of the running back pecking order, he's firmly behind Ryan Torain, Roy Helu and probably Evan Royster.

Wed Mar 9 201112:23Keiland Williams emerged as 'crucial' blocker
Coordinator Kyle Shanahan indicated that Keiland Williams' blocking on passing-downs was "crucial" late last season.
The Shanahans never did trust Williams as the primary ball carrier, so don't expect his role to grow in 2011. If it comes down to Williams or Ryan Torain on obvious passing downs, though, Williams will continue to pick up the snaps.

Sun Jan 2 201121:11Keiland Williams carries the ball just once
Keiland Williams carried the ball once for 4 yards but added four receptions for 47 yards.
Williams is not under contract for 2011 and is a borderline NFL talent. He got awfully lucky to spend 2010 in a Mike Shanahan backfield, posting 261 yards and 3 touchdowns on 65 carries and 309 yards and 2 touchdowns on 39 receptions. Consider him a long shot for fantasy relevancy in 2011.
Sun Dec 12 201017:00Williams totals 76 yards as third-down back
Keiland Williams rushed just four times for 16 yards but added three receptions for 60 yards against the Bucs in Week 14.
With Ryan Torain starting and solidifying the feature-back role, Williams played as the third-down back. He also got more looks at the goal-line than Torain did. Expect similar touches but fewer passing yards going forward. Third-stringer James Davis blew a blitz pickup and didn't see a single touch.
