Davis (knee), who missed his second consecutive game this past Sunday, has reportedly made significant progress over the last week, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

As a result, Davis -- who practiced in a limited fashion last week -- is trending in the right direction as Week 6's contest against the Ravens approaches. A return to full practice participation this week, however, would certainly brighten his outlook on that front.

Davis (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Garrett Celek figures to get another start, with Vance McDonald serving as the No. 2 tight end. The San Francisco offense has been a dead zone for fantasy production, and there's little reason to expect anything from the team's tight ends, regardless of Davis' health.

Davis led the 49ers across the board in receiving categories Monday, which evidences just how little San Francisco used the passing game to win by a convincing margin. While running back Carlos Hyde stole the show, Davis' fantasy owners can at least be somewhat encouraged by his performance relative to the 49ers' other pass-catchers Monday.

Prior to last season, Davis had been a model of health for most of his career, but a pair of early-season injuries forced two DNPs for the first time since 2007. As a result, he cobbled together the worst line of his nine-year career -- 26 catches (on 50 targets) for 245 yards and one touchdown -- which he intends to bounce back from. Nevertheless, expect his preseason reps to be limited in order to remain fresh for the regular season.

The 31-year-old Davis had the worst season of his career in 2014, finishing with just 26 catches for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 50 targets in 14 games. He was limited by a slew of injuries even when on the field, but it seems the offseason gave him plenty of time to recover. With the 49ers lacking proven receiving targets outside of Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, it's possible Davis will be much more involved this season. Still, he's on the wrong side of 30 and has likely lost some of his All-World athleticism.

A weak offensive line is partly to blame, as Davis was asked to block more than usual. Either way, Davis has a lot to prove in 2015 as he tries to restore faith in fantasy owners.

Davis had just one catch on one target for nine yards in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

Arizona has not defended the TE well the last few seasons, but Davis has been an afterthought in San Francisco's offense in 2014. In fact, he finishes the season with an ugly 26/245/2 line in 14 games.

Davis was not targeted in Saturday's overtime loss to the Chargers.

Colin Kaepernick through for just 114 yards, but the fact that he didn't look Davis' way even once is the final nail in the coffin on Davis' 2014 fantasy season. He has not caught a pass in back-to-back games.

Davis had no catches on two targets in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks.

Sunday's zero-catch performance signifies rock-bottom for the once prominent tight end. If you were hanging on to Davis for any reason, let this game be the final straw.

Davis has another quiet game Sunday, catching just two passes (four targets) for 25 yards in the loss to the Raiders.

Despite the quiet day, one of his catches did go for 23 yards, which was a season-high for Davis. The production has really fallen off this season for the once prominent tight end. He was obviously slowed by the slew of minor injuries he sustained earlier in the season, but Davis has now played in six consecutive games, so health can no longer be an excuse. A more likely reason for the dip in production this season is the 49ers' depleted offensive line, as Davis has been asked to stay back in protection more than usual. Those who were still waiting for an eventual bounce back from Davis can move on after another disappointing fantasy performance.
