Davis (knee), who missed his second consecutive game this past Sunday, has reportedly made significant progress over the last week, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
As a result, Davis -- who practiced in a limited fashion last week -- is trending in the right direction as Week 6's contest against the Ravens approaches. A return to full practice participation this week, however, would certainly brighten his outlook on that front.
Fri Oct 9 201516:50Davis (knee) ruled out for Sunday's game against Giants
Davis (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Garrett Celek figures to get another start, with Vance McDonald serving as the No. 2 tight end. The San Francisco offense has been a dead zone for fantasy production, and there's little reason to expect anything from the team's tight ends, regardless of Davis' health.
Wed Oct 7 201520:05Davis (knee) limited at practice Wednesday
Davis (knee) was limited at practice Wednesday, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
After straining his knee in Week 3, Davis didn't practice once last week and was eventually deemed inactive Sunday versus the Packers. His return to practice is certainly a good sign, but two days remain to show that he's ready to return for Sunday Night Football against the Giants in New York. Because Vance McDonald also fit in a limited showing Wednesday, the 49ers could soon have its tight-end corps intact.
Sun Oct 4 201515:04Davis inactive for Sunday's game against Packers
Davis is inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers.
With Davis out, Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek and Blake Bell are in line to handle the 49ers' TE duties, though neither represent a high-percentage fantasy play in Week 4.
Fri Oct 2 201517:32Davis listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against Packers
Davis is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Packers, ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports.
Davis was expected to return to practice Friday, but the 49ers listed him as a non-participant for the third consecutive day. He probably felt discomfort in his knee while preparing for practice, and he now has little chance to play in Sunday's game. The 49ers are left with Vance McDonald (knee), Garrett Celek and Blake Bell at tight end, with no clear leader among the bunch.
Fri Oct 2 201514:23Davis (knee) will return to practice Friday
Davis (knee) will return to practice Friday, with his availability for Sunday's game depending on how the practice goes, ESPN's Paul Gutierrez reports.
Davis missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, but his injury isn't thought to be serious. He no longer inspires confidence in owners when fully healthy, so even if he plays, he'll be a tough sell for Sunday's game.

Davis (knee) did not practice Thursday and his status for Sunday's game against the Packers doesn't look promising, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Although his knee strain is thought to be minor, Davis may still need to miss a game or two. An absence would leave some combination of Vance McDonald (knee), Garrett Celek and Blake Bell with larger roles.
Wed Sep 30 201520:14Vernon Davis: (Knee) Doesn't practice Wednesday
Davis (knee) didn't take part in Wednesday's practice, the 49ers' official site reports.
Davis suffered a minor knee strain Sunday at Arizona, but the 49ers are taking no chances with their starting tight end, keeping him out of drills to start the week. If absences continue, though, head coach Jim Tomsula may have to turn to Garrett Celek and Blake Bell, as Vance McDonald is dealing with his own knee injury. As the week continues, Tomsula and company could clear up Davis' availability.

Davis (knee) is dealing with a strain that isn't believed to be serious, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.
With Vance McDonald (knee) also injured, Garrett Celek and Blake Bell are the healthy tight ends on San Francisco's roster. Neither Davis nor any of his backups figures to get significant volume in the passing game, but Celek does have eight receptions for 79 yards on nine targets this season. It sounds like Davis has a shot to be ready for Week 4 against the Packers.

Davis suffered a minor knee injury during Sunday's blowout loss to the Cardinals, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Davis was forced to exit from Sunday's game without a target, marking just one fantasy flounder from the 49ers' abysmal display in Arizona. Now with a knee injury as well, Davis' progress through practice this week should shine light on his status ahead of Week 4.

Davis is questionable to return to Sunday's contest at Arizona due to a knee injury, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.
If he doesn't return, Davis will finish without a target, marking his first outing sans a catch since Week 16 last season. In his place, Garrett Celek and Blake Bell will fill in at tight end.

Davis caught five passes (on seven targets) for 62 yards Sunday against the Steelers.
Davis is off to a pedestrian start in 2015, with 109 yards on eight catches through two games. The veteran tight end can still produce elite days here and there thanks to his amazing athleticism, but his output is generally unspectacular regardless of the 49ers' game plan.

Davis caught three passes (on six targets) for 47 yards in Monday's game against the Vikings.
Davis led the 49ers across the board in receiving categories Monday, which evidences just how little San Francisco used the passing game to win by a convincing margin. While running back Carlos Hyde stole the show, Davis' fantasy owners can at least be somewhat encouraged by his performance relative to the 49ers' other pass-catchers Monday.

Davis (coach's decision) won't suit up for Saturday's preseason opener at Houston, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.
Prior to last season, Davis had been a model of health for most of his career, but a pair of early-season injuries forced two DNPs for the first time since 2007. As a result, he cobbled together the worst line of his nine-year career -- 26 catches (on 50 targets) for 245 yards and one touchdown -- which he intends to bounce back from. Nevertheless, expect his preseason reps to be limited in order to remain fresh for the regular season.
Fri Jul 31 201514:28Davis said Friday that he feels like rookie again
Davis said Friday that he feels like a rookie again, ESPN's Paul Gutierrez reports.
The 31-year-old Davis had the worst season of his career in 2014, finishing with just 26 catches for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 50 targets in 14 games. He was limited by a slew of injuries even when on the field, but it seems the offseason gave him plenty of time to recover. With the 49ers lacking proven receiving targets outside of Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, it's possible Davis will be much more involved this season. Still, he's on the wrong side of 30 and has likely lost some of his All-World athleticism.

49ers' GM Trent Baalke confirmed that Davis would "absolutely" be back with the team in 2015, CSN Bay Area reports.
Davis is coming off his worst season as a pro (26 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns), and is owed $4.95 million going into the final year of his contract. He dealt with minor injuries throughout the season, but under-performed even when he was back at full strength. Baalke believes that Davis simply had a down year, and he will be able to bounce back next season. He isn't a spring chicken at the age of 31, but the drop off in production from 2013 to 2014 came out of nowhere. A weak offensive line is partly to blame, as Davis was asked to block more than usual. Either way, Davis has a lot to prove in 2015 as he tries to restore faith in fantasy owners.

Davis had just one catch on one target for nine yards in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
Arizona has not defended the TE well the last few seasons, but Davis has been an afterthought in San Francisco's offense in 2014. In fact, he finishes the season with an ugly 26/245/2 line in 14 games.
Sun Dec 21 201402:31Davis not targeted in Saturday's overtime loss to Chargers
Davis was not targeted in Saturday's overtime loss to the Chargers.
Colin Kaepernick through for just 114 yards, but the fact that he didn't look Davis' way even once is the final nail in the coffin on Davis' 2014 fantasy season. He has not caught a pass in back-to-back games.
Mon Dec 15 201412:03Davis had no catches on two targets in Sunday's loss to Seahawks
Davis had no catches on two targets in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks.
Sunday's zero-catch performance signifies rock-bottom for the once prominent tight end. If you were hanging on to Davis for any reason, let this game be the final straw.

Davis has another quiet game Sunday, catching just two passes (four targets) for 25 yards in the loss to the Raiders.
Despite the quiet day, one of his catches did go for 23 yards, which was a season-high for Davis. The production has really fallen off this season for the once prominent tight end. He was obviously slowed by the slew of minor injuries he sustained earlier in the season, but Davis has now played in six consecutive games, so health can no longer be an excuse. A more likely reason for the dip in production this season is the 49ers' depleted offensive line, as Davis has been asked to stay back in protection more than usual. Those who were still waiting for an eventual bounce back from Davis can move on after another disappointing fantasy performance.
