Sun May 19 201316:28Charlie Batch won't retire this offseason
Free agent QB Charlie Batch says he has no plans to retire this offseason.
Now 38 years old, Batch will keep his phone on in case a team gets desperate for an in-season quarterback addition. We wouldn't expect him to be signed before Week 1. "I'm not closing the door," said Batch. "I'm open to whatever is out there for me." Batch is also interested in working in an NFL front office.

Mon Apr 29 201322:13Batch not expecting to be re-signed by PIT
Free agent QB Charlie Batch isn't expecting to be re-signed by the Steelers.
After the Steelers signed Bruce Gradkowski to back up Ben Rothelisberger, it seemed to close the door on a Batch, 38, return. Pittsburgh then drafted Landry Jones over the weekend, and that locked the door. The Steelers will likely keep Batch's number handy in case of an injury during the season.

Thu Feb 28 201313:54Batch plans on being back in Pittsburgh
Free agent QB Charlie Batch plans on re-signing with the Steelers.
"My plan is to come back, and I haven't heard anything differently from the organization," Batch said. The 38-year-old will likely be back on the veteran's minimum, but the Steelers would be wise to draft a developmental signal caller in the middle rounds of the draft.

Wed Feb 27 201308:55Charlie Batch wants to play in 2013
Free agent QB Charlie Batch wants to play in 2013.
Following injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich, Batch was forced into action last season. He was nothing short of inept against the Browns in Week 12, but somehow went into Baltimore in Week 13 and pulled off an upset. Now 38, it's unlikely that the Steelers will want Batch back. They'd do well to select a developmental quarterback in the draft and install him as Big Ben's backup.

Tue Dec 4 201212:17Tomlin claims Batch is still his guy
Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that for now, Charlie Batch is "our guy."
Tomlin isn't making any declarations on Ben Roethlisberger's status until he sees him perform at Wednesday's practice. "As we sit here today, we are building our plan around Charlie," he said. However, the reliable Post-Gazette has already reported that the Steelers expect to have their franchise quarterback under center for Sunday and ESPN is on the record saying Roethlisberger's soreness is diminishing. Expect Tomlin to change his tune by Wednesday or Thursday.

Tue Nov 27 201219:22Steelers preparing to start Batch in Week 13
The Steelers are preparing to start Charlie Batch at Baltimore in Week 13.
The coaching staff is "leaving the door open" for Ben Roethlisberger if he exceeds expectations in limited practices. Despite Batch's brutal performance at Cleveland, he would still get the call over Brian Hoyer if Roethlisberger can't go. Batch's presence would be a downgrade for the entire Steelers offense.

Sun Nov 25 201217:31Charlie Batch absolutely inept in loss
Charlie Batch completed 20-of-34 passes for 197 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions in the Steelers' Week 12 loss to the Browns.
It was one of the worst performances by a quarterback in the NFL this year. Batch was woefully inaccurate, even on short passes to the flat. The Steelers didn't trust him, calling run plays on third-and-mediums early on. When Batch wasn't checking down, he was just weakly chucking the ball up for grabs in the secondary. He crippled the entire offense. If Batch is forced into another start next week, the Ravens will be a premier D/ST play in fantasy circles.

Tue Jun 26 201208:56Charlie Batch should make Steelers
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review expects both Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch to crack the Steelers' 53-man roster following the release of Troy Smith.
Leftwich is the favorite to back-up Ben Roethlisberger, but the 37-year-old Batch's roster spot wasn't assured with Smith in town. With Roethlisberger now on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a season where he was bothered by a lingering ankle injury, the Steelers should be fully expected to carry three quarterbacks.

Mon Apr 16 201212:43Steelers bring back long-time backup Batch
Steelers re-signed QB Charlie Batch to a one-year contract.
Aside from perhaps retirement, the 37-year-old Batch was never headed elsewhere. A backup in Pittsburgh since 2003, Batch led the Steelers to a 27-0 victory over the Rams in his lone start last season, completing 15-of-22 passes for 208 yards and a score. His re-signing may mean free agent Byron Leftwich will move on. Troy Smith is the favorite for the Steelers' third-string job.

Fri Dec 23 201108:16Charlie Batch expected to start versus Rams
Charlie Batch is tentatively expected to start against the Rams in Week 16.
Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) is officially a game-time decision, but all of the Steelers beat writers expect him to sit out for a week -- along with C Maurkice Pouncey, OLB LaMarr Woodley, and WR Emmanuel Sanders. With Batch at the helm, Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown go from must-start to borderline WR3 status.

Thu Dec 15 201115:43Dixon will only play in event of an injury
Steelers OC Bruce Arians indicated that Dennis Dixon would only play in the event of a Charlie Batch injury if Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) sits out on Monday.
As hard as it may to believe, Arians insists the Steelers won't change the offense if Batch starts. Arians acknowledges that a decision on Big Ben could come down to pregame warmups on Monday night. Roethlisberger revealed Thursday that the ankle is actually more painful right now than it was a week ago. For what it's worth, SI.com's Peter King is still predicting that Roethlisberger will not play this week.

Tue Dec 13 201113:42Batch to start if Big Ben can't go
The Steelers will start Charlie Batch against the 49ers on Monday night if Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) can't go.
Dennis Dixon will pick up extra snaps this week, too, in case of emergency. Coach Mike Tomlin considers Roethlisberger and C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) "questionable" at this point. We'd be surprised if Batch ends up starting, but Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown take big hits if he does.

Fri Sep 2 201109:30Batch cements the backup job
Charlie Batch locked up the backup job Thursday night by completing 6-of-8 passes for 59 yards in two series.
Batch should have had a touchdown as well but Mike Wallace fumbled while going into the end zone. Dennis Dixon will be the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Ben Roethlisberger.

Tue Aug 30 201109:47Batch, not Dixon, to be Big Ben's backup?
Charlie Batch is the "likely candidate" to be the Steelers' backup quarterback, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Coach Mike Tomlin said that Dennis Dixon will get a chance to fight for the job this week and a final decision will be made after Thursday's preseason game. But Dixon was reportedly on the trade block earlier this month as he had fallen behind Batch on the depth chart. Batch went 3-1 as a starter during Ben Roethlisberger's suspension last season.

Fri Jun 10 201108:53Bankruptcy court clears Batch's debts
Steelers QB Charlie Batch had many of his debts cleared in bankruptcy court this week.
Batch, who filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy back in December, will keep creditors off his back for awhile. The majority of his debt came as a result of failed business ventures. The court will allow him to keep his house and his Super Bowl rings.

Wed Mar 23 201112:04Charlie Batch filed for bankruptcy
Steelers QB Charlie Batch filed for bankruptcy in December.
Batch's bankruptcy filing lists $8.3 million in liabilities and $2.3 million in assets. He may end up losing his two Super Bowl rings to pay off the debt. Batch is the second veteran QB in two years to file for bankruptcy, joining the Jets' Mark Brunell.

Fri Jan 28 201111:20Batch wants to return for one more season
Steelers third-string QB Charlie Batch wants to return for another season in 2011.
Batch is a Pittsburgh native, so it's likely Steelers or bust for the 36-year-old. Byron Leftwich, due $1.75 million, is almost certain to return. Dennis Dixon was due to hit free agency under the rules of the old CBA. His Steelers future is up in the air, especially if he lands an opportunity to compete for a starting job elsewhere.

Sun Jan 2 201112:11Steelers very healthy heading into Week 17
Steelers declared third QB Charlie Batch, RB Mewelde Moore, T Chris Scott, T Tony Hills, DE Aaron Smith, DL Steve McLendon, LB Jason Worilds and CB Crezdon Butler inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns.
No surprises for the Steelers. Isaac Redman will fill in for Moore (knee) and spell Rashard Mendenhall on some passing downs. The Steelers will be playing all out as they can lock up the NFC North with a win today.
Sun Dec 5 201019:05Batch among Week 13 inactives
Steelers declared third QB Charlie Batch, RB Jonathan Dwyer, DE Aaron Smith, T Chris Scott, CB Crezdon Butler, TE Matt Spaeth, DT Steve McLendon and T Tony Hills inactive for Week 13.
Ben Roethlisberger (foot) is active, as expected. Byron Leftwich will back him up, with Batch serving as the No. 3 quarterback. DEs Brett Keisel (calf) and Nick Eason (knee) are both suiting up.
