Mon Aug 19 201317:14Saints release WR Breaston
Saints released WR Steve Breaston.
At age 30, Breaston must have nothing left in the tank after several knee injuries the past five seasons. He couldn't beat out rookie Kenny Stills or second-year WR Nick Toon behind Lance Moore and Marques Colston.

Thu Aug 8 201309:49Steve Breaston in for 'long look' at No. 3
The New Orleans Times-Picayune expects Steve Breaston to get a "long look" as the Saints' No. 3 receiver.
It's not an ideal fit, as coach Sean Payton typically prefers his No. 3 wideout to be a lid-lifting burner, a la the injured Joe Morgan. Breaston was also slowed by chronic knee inflammation last season. It would be unwise to make fantasy plans for the 30-year-old wideout before watching him in the preseason. Rookie Kenny Stills is also in the mix for No. 3 duties.

Mon Aug 5 201314:41Saints sign WR Breaston to one-year contract
Saints signed WR Steve Breaston to a one-year contract.
Breaston, 30, appeared in just 10 games with Kansas City last year, making four starts and catching seven balls for 74 yards. Coach Sean Payton's Saints offense has often featured two situational streak-route runners when it's been at its best, a la Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson. They draw over-the-top coverage and free up the underneath. The Saints have Joseph Morgan, but lack an established second. Breaston will battle Kenny Stills and Saalim Hakim.

Mon Jul 22 201321:28Lions to work out three free agent receivers
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Lions will work out free agent WRs Steve Breaston and Chaz Schilens, in addition to Laurent Robinson, this week.
Breaston hasn't drawn an ounce of known interest since meeting with the Steelers and Browns in late February. Teams have shied away from the soon-to-be 30-year-old as he works his way back from knee inflammation. Schilens has met with the Titans and Patriots since hitting free agency.

Wed Jun 19 201322:00Report: Steelers won't sign Steve Breaston
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette reports the Steelers signing free agent WR Steve Breaston "won't happen."
The Steelers showed interest in Breaston following his release from the Chiefs in late February, but they're no longer interested. It doesn't appear any other team is, either. Breaston battled persistent knee inflammation last season, and he even considered Regenokine knee therapy. The soon-to-be 30-year-old hasn't drawn an ounce of known interest in nearly four months.

Thu Mar 7 201313:34Steve Breaston doesn't need knee procedure
Free agent WR Steve Breaston doesn't need Regenokine knee therapy.
Breaston was advised that "he doesn't need it," and "he's fine." Breaston has been battling knee issues for the past few seasons, and teams have been wary of signing him since his release from the Chiefs last month. It appears Breaston will just rest the knee.

Sat Mar 2 201313:22Free agent Breaston may need knee procedure
Free agent Steve Breaston is considering Regenokine therapy in an effort to cure persistent knee inflammation and early arthritic symptoms.
This explains a lot. Breaston has battled right knee problems on and off since 2009. They significantly affected his effectiveness late in his Cardinals tenure, and likely cost him explosiveness in Kansas City. Breaston has visited the Browns and Steelers, but neither signed him -- most likely because his right knee is a major issue again. Regenokine has been undergone by Kobe Bryant, Grant Hill, Alex Rodriguez, and most recently Gosder Cherilus.

Fri Mar 1 201315:35Steelers passing on signing Breaston, for now
The Steelers will not sign free agent Steve Breaston right now.
Breaston visited Pittsburgh on Friday after meeting with the Browns on Thursday, but neither team is interested in signing him at the moment. "[The Steelers] may revisit him later if he remains unsigned," says beat writer Ed Bouchette. Breaston will continue his tour, but it's uncertain where the next stop is.

Thu Feb 28 201312:12Steve Breaston leaves Cleveland without deal
The Browns are not expected to try to sign free agent WR Steve Breaston.
Breaston met with the Browns on Wednesday and left without an offer. Entering his age-30 season, he wouldn't have been an upgrade on Josh Gordon or Greg Little. Breaston will meet with old friend Todd Haley and the Steelers either Thursday or Friday.

Tue Feb 26 201317:50Breaston visiting Browns before Steelers
Free agent Steve Breaston will meet with the Browns on Thursday and the Steelers on Friday.
Breaston was originally expected to visit the Steelers first. Any time a player makes a visit, there's a chance they won't leave, so it gives the Browns a leg up on Pittsburgh. If the money is equal, though, it would make far more sense for Breaston to reunite with his former head coach and offensive coordinator Todd Haley in Pittsburgh.

Tue Feb 26 201312:44Breaston to meet with Steelers this week
Free agent WR Steve Breaston will meet with the Steelers on Thursday or Friday.
Breaston is from the Pittsburgh area, knows offensive coordinator Todd Haley from their time together with the Cardinals and free agent Mike Wallace is moving on. The fit almost seems too perfect. The Cowboys, Browns and Titans also reportedly have interest in Breaston.

Tue Feb 26 201308:43Report: Cowboys showing interest in Breaston
League sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Cowboys have shown interest in free agent Steve Breaston.
Owner Jerry Jones went on the record Sunday saying Miles Austin will be back with the team in 2013. That means the Cowboys would be trying to woo Breaston as a strict No. 3 wideout. It's a tough sell as the Steelers can offer a reunion with OC Todd Haley, a chance to compete with Emmanuel Sanders for the No. 2 job and an opportunity for Breaston to return to his hometown of Pittsburgh.

Mon Feb 25 201314:03Titans have some interest in WR Breaston
In addition to the Steelers and Browns, the Titans have "some interest" in free agent Steve Breaston.
Breaston has already visited the Steelers and will meet with the Browns on Tuesday. The Titans are not known to have set up a visit yet. Breaston, 29, is a middling talent despite solid statistics posted with Kurt Warner at quarterback in Arizona. He's a No. 3-caliber wide receiver at absolute best.

Sun Feb 24 201318:06Report: Breaston to meet with Browns Tuesday
NFL.com reports free agent Steve Breaston will meet with the Browns on Tuesday.
The Steelers met with Breaston's agent at the Combine, but the sides apparently won't work out a deal in Indy. CBS' Jason La Canfora considers Pittsburgh the "favorites" to land the former Chief and Cardinal. NFL.com's Aditi Kinkhabwala reports Breaston has also drawn interest from the Cowboys, Lions and Titans.

Sun Feb 24 201312:35Report: Steelers 'favorites' to sign Breaston
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora says the Steelers are the "favorites" to sign free agent Steve Breaston.
La Canfora says Breaston has drawn interest from "several teams," including the Browns, but a reunion with OC Todd Haley in Breaston's hometown of Pittsburgh is "likely." He played a lot in the slot in 2011, but he was mainly used on the outside under Haley in Arizona. Breaston can sign immediately.

Thu Feb 21 201322:43Breaston open to signing with the Steelers
Free agent Steve Breaston said he is open to signing with the Steelers, but he's more interested in finding a team that will allow him to play.
"I know of the Pittsburgh tradition and the winning ways and it would be a great team to be involved with, but for me, it is all about using this process," Breaston said. "I have to take everything in and see what would be a good fit for me and where I can come in and play." The Steelers and Breaston's agent are expected to meet at the Combine. He can sign immediately.

Thu Feb 21 201314:01Steelers to meet with Steve Breaston's agent
The Steelers will meet with free agent Steve Breaston's agent at the Combine.
Breaston was released by the Chiefs on Tuesday, and the Steelers were immediately connected to his name. Breaston grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and OC Todd Haley was the offensive coordinator for the best season of Breaston's career in 2008 with the Cardinals. He'll likely come cheap after a disastrous season that saw him catch seven passes.

Wed Feb 20 201308:24Steve Breaston a fit in San Diego?
ESPN's Bill Williamson suggests the Chargers as a possible fit for free agent Steve Breaston.

Tue Feb 19 201319:19Steelers a potential Breaston landing spot
ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley expects free agent Steve Breaston to "certainly interest" the Steelers.
Steelers OC Todd Haley was Breaston's offensive coordinator for the best season of his career in 2008, and head coach for his second-best in 2011. Breaston is coming off a disastrous season, but is just two years removed from posting a 61/785/2 line under Haley in 2011. Breaston could be cheap, veteran insurance for a team that's up against the salary cap and likely to lose No. 1 receiver in Mike Wallace.
